Im very excited about this pickup of Etan Thomas. An I know he wants to prove that he can still be that productve BIg he use to be! If he can return to what he was in Washington than we got ourselves a great pickup ATL and not just a ok pickup!

Check ya boy out! He gon bring some good toughness to this unit!

from a good blogger at realgm:

"Etan's always got something wrong. He's also had rib injuries. But the biggest problem he has are his hands. He's got good low post moves, but when you can't hold onto the ball, there's a problem. His ball skills are awful, and he's a black hole - will not and maybe cannot pass. Also, for a strong physical player, he's surprisingly clueless on setting picks - displaying a low BBIQ. He has good shot-blocking instincts, but he's got below average height and length for a C. A better poet than NBA player."

He knows how to use his body and that's a good thing. He's definately not a starter but compared to what we've had coming off the bench he's an upgrade.

Nothing wrong with a garbage man but we already have Jason Collins and ZaZa. How about an actual skilled post player?

too critical too early NJ Hawk man. Im not sayin Thomas gon get us out the 2nd round or anything cause he's not but he is going to help this team with his defense and good size under the goal. What it is to me is that even if this team keeps getting good role players its never going to take us to that elite level. The team is very very solid with good players. what we need now is that one player we can trade for to take us to the top. Im not trying to get rid of jamal but the hawks are so stacked with good role players that i would package him and somebody else just to get a Bigger name who can help to go along with JJ at any position!

He is definately is not an offensive guy. I like him as a rugged, physical enforcer on defense for 15 minutes a night though.

The budget is minimum salary guys only. Too bad that was not enough for a Brad Miller or a Shaq like veteran with actual offensive skill set. (Miller ended up with a 3 year $15 mill deal.) Big Z and Shaq chose to play for the minimum or "better" teams. Shaq will at leat get to start for hapf a season while Perkins comes back from injury. One of those 3 would have helped alot.

Its just hard for me to rationalize and see the logic in giving $100 + mill to JJ and not being able to fork out an another $5 mill or 5% to basically complete the team.

well i can say this much at least he will be able to dunk on fastbreaks unlike zaza, we need a center that can complete putbacks and explode off the floor for a dunk when he is up under the rim , not pump fake and hesitate like a bunck of stuck gears like zaza. it looks like this guy could giveus an NENE type effort.

And i agree with that one poster, we spend 100 million for jj and then want spend anextra 5 million to help round out the team (that allso could have went for a coach with a good name)

I wonder if Etan Thomas posted his own collection of highlights on you tube?
