In Topic: Pape Sy - Opinions?
04 September 2010 - 07:08 PM
Plenty of summer league MVPs don't become real NBA players. Pep Sy barely played in the summer league. Anybody can look good in the highlights. Remember, how excited we got about Yi before the draft?
Size and strength do not make one an NBA player.
If the Hawks thought he was as good as some of the enthusiastic fans are thinking, they would have used the 31st pick on Pep Sy just to guarantee that this hidden Ginobilli doesn't get stolen by some other team. If the Hawks thought JC2 will be half as good as JC1, they wouldn't have risked it by trading down.
Logically speaking don't expect him to become a rotation player in the NBA. Very very low probability of succeeding. -
In Topic: Etan Thomas Mix!

from a good blogger at realgm:
"Etan's always got something wrong. He's also had rib injuries. But the biggest problem he has are his hands. He's got good low post moves, but when you can't hold onto the ball, there's a problem. His ball skills are awful, and he's a black hole - will not and maybe cannot pass. Also, for a strong physical player, he's surprisingly clueless on setting picks - displaying a low BBIQ. He has good shot-blocking instincts, but he's got below average height and length for a C. A better poet than NBA player." -

In Topic: Now you know why Obama invited Etan Thomas with the NBA superstars

He has some talent.
Thanks Tremor for the youtube links. Very heartfelt. You can tell that the guy is very well read. Not a TV zombie. Those clueless superstars should be proud that they were in Etan Thomas's company. Who do you think Obama felt intellectually closest to? -

a little more revealing article in Boston Globe:

But he wouldn't comment on even playing for the Hawks in 2010-11. "I don't want to talk about next season," he said.
When asked if he was prepared to potentially leave Atlanta for a fifth NBA team, he said, "All I wanted to do is be growing up is in the NBA. If I am in the NBA, I am fine. I feel like I have a lot of basketball left. I can play at a high level for a long time. The best is yet to come for me."
