Does spending the MLE make us a championship contender?
15 July 2010 - 12:56 PM
I'd like to know what you guys think about that because to me that's what the ASG have to be considering. If I answer that question for them the answer is probably no and I've got a good feeling that's the answer that they get as well and they might figure that if we can't make the team a championship contender then they shouldn't go out and spend that extra money to bump them up to and over the luxury tax if they spend the whole MLE. I know that nobody wants to hear that the ownership has to make a consideration like that but the reality of the situation is that the economy sucks and even with a 53 win team our attendance sucked so they've got to look at the situation and consider whether spending that extra 5 million is going to change the attendance problem and I'd bet that outside of Shaq there is no way for them to do that and apparently Shaq won't take the MLE so why should they spend it? -
New feature for Hawksquawk Supporters
14 July 2010 - 10:28 PM
Just got a new feature working tonight and decided it would be a nice "thank you" to those who support the site and that is the ability to see who gave you "reputation points" on each of your posts. You can actually see who gave points to everyone else also. Just click on the reputation number on your posts and it will pop up a list showing who gave you the points.
Thanks again to all of you who have helped out by donating to the site. -
iPhone / iPad and mobile phone support
13 July 2010 - 05:35 PM
One of the cool new upgrades to the website is the ability to view Hawksquawk on your iPhone / iPad or other mobile phone with a much more streamlined mobile skin. This means that the site will load MUCH faster and will fit your screens much better since it will only use the minimal amount of graphics necessary. You can try it out by going to www.hawksquawk.net on your mobile phone and it should load with the mobile skin, although you might have to change that at the bottom of the page.
Now for those of you that own an iPhone / iPad there is also, you guess it, an app for Hawksquawk. If you open iTunes and search for Invision Power Services you'll find the app. Simply install it on your device and then once it's installed open it up and type in www.hawksquawk.net for the website and your username and password. So now you can launch Hawksquawk with the mobile skin right from an app on your phone and the experience will be significantly faster and easier than it's ever been before.
Another cool new feature for the iPhone / iPad crowd is that Hawksquawk will "push" notifications to your phone. This means that if you subscribe to a thread or a post or receive a personal message or someone adds you as a friend or comments on your status, etc. you will be sent a message to your phone (see attached image).

You can change your settings to receive notifications in your user profile by clicking here or by clicking "My Settings" at the top right of the site, going to the "Settings" tab and then clicking the "Manage Notifications" link (see attached image).

Here are a couple of other images of what the app looks like on the iPhone:

I don't know what other devices can receive notifications although I know they say that they are working on an Android app.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the new Hawksquawk app and on the notifications thing if you use it. -
Please post any bugs you find since the upgrade to 3.1.1
09 July 2010 - 09:22 AM
As you all have probably noticed 2 nights ago I upgraded the forums to the latest version of the software and since it had been nearly 6 months since the last upgrade and this one was the 1st of a somewhat major upgrade for IPB there are some bugs that I'm going to be working on fixing over the next week or so and most of them are due to the fact that the Hawksquawk "skin" was created for the previous version and there are literally dozens of pages that I have to go through the code and update in our skin files to make the new features work. It's a lot of work but I believe it's worth it so that we don't have to use the default skin or a different colored version of it like most sites would do.
So with that said please be patient with me and if you find any issues with the site please add them to this thread.
Edit - I now have the Hawksquawk skin fully transitioned to the new code and hopefully that will take care of 99% of the bugs but if you see something please don't hesitate to let me know.
