  1. This young man was thwarting Embiid and Giannis as best he could with a torn shoulder? More like Okingwu, amirite? https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/31859473/atlanta-hawks-onyeka-okongwu-6-months-shoulder-surgery-sources-say ~lw3

  2. He played through it in the playoffs, so he does get some toughness points.

  4. Oh, and Bruno? You're still under contract. And God works in mysterious ways. One person's misfortune almost always presents an opportunity for someone else to fill the void. You ain't dead yet . . . get your mojo back.

  5. Not directly related but just FYI for locals not already in the know: Hawks coverage from the AJC over the next couple weeks might be limited, because Sarah Spencer's getting hitched! Congrats to Sarah. (EDIT: "I'm told" C-Viv is still milling about, and he wrote up a Draft article for AJC a few days ago, so I expect he'll lead the charge with local AJC Hawks coverage until Sarah's honeymoon ends.) ~lw3

  7. Hey Bruno....you have another opportunity, if you want it.

  8. Sucks for OO. Was really looking forward to him getting much needed development work this offseason. He may bounce back but, next year might be a lost cause after we sign a suitable replacement to fill in for the first 3 months of the season. Ughhhh these injuries never end

  9. Damn. That's rough. We should be a rough and tumble team by Feb. Get Well soon Young Fella.

  11. who cares really. Just another person that knows nothing about our team and players. This is from a the same guy that said The Sixers should rest Embiid until the Confrence finals because they could beat the Hawks in 5 without Embiid.

  12. Why do we want to replace Gallo? I love that guy and he did exactly what we hoped he would for us.

  13. Because he was once the draft pick of Atlanta and they simply "gave him away" for Trae and Cam. (I would do that trade again right now!)

  14. I think Luka is a great young player but putting him on the same level as KD and above guys with multiple rings like Steph and Kawhi without even getting out of the first round is absurd. Like, I’ve been told my whole life that postseason success, and specifically rings, is what separates the elite from the good. Someone explain to me why this doesn’t apply at all to this one player?

  15. Hawks are still living up to the old Hee Haw song: "If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all."

  16. Okongwu told The Athletic that he played through pain throughout the playoffs and that some days were more painful than others. He didn’t remember exactly when he tore his labrum, but it happened on a particular play in May.

  17. Man, so that means we might not see a major jump for OO or Hunter since they are getting no real offseason. Eeek! I am glad he addressed it now. He's going to be out till at least Jan. Sucks! This obviously means getting another center is higher on the priority scale. Sadly, the draft is weak so FA it is. I hope we can bring Dedmon back.

  18. I don't think we want to replace him. If you can get a great return for him, he is the best option to move this off season. I'd love to run it back though to see how far this team can go.

  20. I would love to see us with either Serge or Noel. High energy defensive guys.

  21. My guess is, they determined the injury would not/could not get any worse by playing with it. We've seen that before with other players.

  22. Interesting they shut Hunter down after the Knicks series for surgery but not OO. He was huge for us so i get it but would have gotten him back sooner next year.

  23. This right here. Skill is the last thing to go.

  24. Gallo just finished his age 32 season and does his damage with skill and craft rather than athleticism. The two seasons prior to this one he averaged 19 and 20 ppg. I've got no worries about him in the near term. But we should look at him as being on a 1-2 year contract with either a buyout or expiration of his contract. The other thing is there is value in his contract expiring as it dovetails nicely with young players getting big raises.

  25. Its been done. I don't mean to be salty but this happens a lot. You give info and people come at you as if you're proposing it. Its meant to start a discussion. I'm not saying "oh we should do this". What I'm saying is, "hey community this is being discussed by people who matter and I don't have all the details. Here's something that matches salary wise, what does good value look like to you." I don't have info on the specifics except a Gallo swap was mentioned and due to the cap situations of both teams, it requires similar salaries. So its gotta look something like XYZ. So what other compensation would you want, picks, swaps, etc. I didn't do it, its not my idea but it was discussed, it happened and the information is mostly guarded. I spoke about it a few days ago as making sense. I saw the rumor on hoopshype, made a few calls and said what I know with a "I'll say more when I know".....mistakes were made!

  26. Whoa if somebody comes at you, they gotta go through me first, campsto. If I come at you, well .. I wouldn't come at you. I'd log into one of my burner accounts to do it.

  27. Gallo off the bench for 20mpg in the regular seadon is perfect for him. Up his minutes in the playoffs as needed.

  32. So six months means Feb return at the earliest. Huge loss to our team. This almost certainly will have us looking for a veteran BU center now.

  33. The final four teams this year were: Clipps Hawks Suns Bucks. only one of those teams was built as a superteam. I have had to hold my nose and watch Lebron then KD be too weak to take a team to the finals and win it. But instead.. go join a superteam to get it done. I heard Giannis say... "I could have went and joined a superteam but I stayed and did it the hard way." I give him much respect for that. But when I think about our team... we're not a superteam but we are a well built team. I would love to see our dynasty lead the NBA away from Superteams. Trae embodies a guy who don't need to Click-up with other people to be a part of a superteam. Just give him a team!

  35. Trae's playoff run eliminated any tiny voice in my mind that would make me think he wasn't a number 1 option on a championship team. I used to get mad at these folks and rant. Now I just look and laugh because they know he's really good and are just putting him there for the clicks.

  37. Honestly, I'd be ok with touting a player's greatness without the requisite postseason success. But you can't then knock another player and cite "lack of postseason success" as the main reason. That's where I have my issue with the eggsperts. Can't change the rules to suit what you want. ETA: And I don't even look at is as "disrespect" anymore. At this point, folks' credibility is eroding when they craft lists like that.

  38. I advocated at the time to draft Markkanen. I think he's improperly used on Chicago. I think Chicago's system has been a mess. They had more talent than their record.

  39. I'm not seeing how folks think this Bucks team is going to have a run of championships. They swept the Heat but the Heat were really weak this year. They barely get by BKN who are missing 2 of their 3 best players. Imagine if the Bucks were missing Jrue and Middleton do you think they'd take anyone to 7 games in the semis? They get a lucky ref foot against the Hawks to knock out Trae but honestly they were also lucky that the Hawks knocked out Philly. We are . Granted they were missing Giannis. I'm not trying to diminish what they did because it was impressive but it was also somewhat improbable.

  40. Stretch his $5 million over 3 years, reduces the hit to $1.6 mil. Not my preference but an option to get under Luxury Tax if needed and penny pinching.

  41. I think you are getting pushback more because there just really isn't a good match between Minnesota's assets and a possible trade for Gallo. The guys that are available are not worth Gallo while the other guys are too good for Gallo. Seems like a dead end but I'd expect TS to have the conversation and explore 3 party deals that make sense, etc. That really has nothing to do with you passing along intel that others are interested in our guys.

  42. All true, but don't discount Collins' ability to play the backup 5 in small ball lineups, which he did last year before OOs return from the foot injury.

  45. KD's toe may change the course of history. If the Nets moved on, we definitely had a chance against them, especially with their top guys dealing with injuries too. But let's say they beat us and go on to win it all; the Superteam" narrative gets another victory, and the way teams are built continues to be about having multiple superstars joining forces. Im happy for the Bucks, because it shows you can build the old fashioned way with drafting your own superstar, and making smart roster moves around him. It helps validate our model for sure. As far as the Nets, did we have a chance. Yes. We actually outscored them in the season series: 127 ppg to 124. In our two losses, we were up late and lost the lead to lose by 4 twice. That was very symptomatic of the LP Hawks. In our one win, we dominated them defensively and held them to 96. We played them twice with no Gallo, once with no Bogi, and 3 times with no Lou Will. They played us twice with just Kyrie and KD and once with all 3. Also, all games were under LP. We hadn't discovered how to close games down the stretch, or play solid team defense yet. Not saying we would have swept the Nets, but under Nate, we would not have surrendered those 2 leads. I think this matchup boils down to 2 things: 1) Firepower. As shown by the high scoring games, both teams have a ton of scoring talent. They have 3 guys who can go for over 40 any night. We have 1. But we still have 5 others that can easily get 20+(Kev, Bogi, Dre, Cam, Gallo), not even including JC or Lou who may or may not be back next year. That more than makes ups for lack of super power. 2) Defense. The Nets cannot be a strong defensive team as built. They can be solid at best. They cannot slow us down. We have too many weapons. Our defenders have a much better chance at making life hard for at least two of their big 3. Our core is full of two-way players. We can get stops and put up a ton of points without having to rely on specialists. I think we can hang with those dudes easily.
