  1. Woah, woah, woah. Why is everyone weirdly writing off Cam? The guy hasn’t even played much more than a full season of NBA basketball. He needs time to develop. He has skills that are useful right now while we are in win mode, but still has upside. He just needs to play and stay healthy.

  2. Felt like he did a good job of that in the playoffs. Most of his shots were in the flow and by taking those good shots it gave him success that fed his confidence.

  3. That was a good read. He has got to fix his mindset and confidence. Hopefully we see it.

  4. I can’t wait to see this man! Sarah K. Spencer: Spoke with De’Andre Hunter this morning — he said he’s feeling pretty good and thinks he’ll play tonight (was listed as probable on the injury report). “It’s been a long time. It’s going to feel good to be back out there.” Says this preseason game will be a good test for him. – via Twitter sarah_k_spence Injuries, De'Andre Hunter, Atlanta Hawks

  5. We don't need Trae playing in meaningless pre season games nursing an injury. let the man heal.

  8. It seems a lot of fans on here are starting to give up on Cam. I won't be one of them. https://theathletic.com/2865070/2021/10/06/cam-reddish-and-his-pursuit-to-find-his-old-self-and-help-the-hawks/

  9. Need a meaningful sample size. Cam looked great in the playoffs last year but that isn't enough to prove he has really reached the next level. The first pre-season game of the season sure as **** doesn't prove anything whether it is good or bad. It is just a warm up for the games that actually mean something. Not much different than getting worked up because a player isn't shooting well during the pre-game shoot around. Cam is in a "prove it" season this year since he hasn't demonstrated consistency in the past but let's wait until the actual games before starting to try to measure whether he has made progress or not.

  12. Fully agree on that. Luka gets press and attention like Yao Ming, LeBron James and only a handful of other players over the last 20 years. The pump was definitely primed for him and the media has somewhat slavishly lavished praise on him ever since. Good news for basketball fans is that at least he looks to be a legit HOFer in the making so it isn't as obnoxious as it would be if he wasn't as good as he is. The issue isn't him getting a ton of attention as much as it is him getting more attention than other players.

  14. Using a college season when he played hurt all year doesn't get you far with me and he has played the equivalent of a single NBA season and I think I'd be off my rocker to draw conclusions about a player's final career status off of a single season's worth of games. I'll grant you that this overall season's worth of games is not impressive at all. However, it is also wildly inconsistent. I'm not sure what you draw definitively from his pro career as he has gone from terrible to excellent during that period. At 20 years old, he started the season hurt and was pretty terrible from October - December. Then he was excellent from January to March before the season was shut down due to Covid. At 21 years old, he again opened up with a terrible stretch of games in January and February (first two full months of the season) and then was out hurt for the rest of the regular season. When he returned in the playoffs, he was excellent with impact defense and posting the best offensive rating among all the team's wings and guards. This season is very important for both Cam and Hunter. They need to stay healthy. Cam needs to step up his game and be more like "playoff Cam" or 2021 Jan - March Cam and Hunter needs to play like he started last season. So I don't think we have a meaningful sample size of games for Cam to draw ultimate conclusions about the player he will be in his prime. Do you think you can judge every 21 year old rookie on the ultimate ceiling for his career due to having a meaningful sample size after less than 90 total games played?

  15. I don't disagree with that but I'm not going to downgrade Pettit for having beaten Bill Russell's Celtics in the finals. Pettit played against Wilt, Russell, Elgin Baylor, The Big O, Jerry West, etc. All those guys would have been greats in any era and Pettit stood out as a legend even against them. Notably, Pettit has more All-Star MVPs than any players in league history as far as trying to measure where he stood up against his HOF peers. You'd probably expect Wilt to have dominated this but he only won 1 time compared to 4 for Pettit. (Next on the list are Kobe who tied him and MJ, Shaq, Oscar, and LeBron who won one fewer.) Unfortunately for his legacy relative to his peers, he did it in St. Louis and not in Boston, Philly, LA or NY. (Example: In the playoffs, Pettit's Hawks went 10-13 against Boston over the years with Pettit averaging 28.9 points and 16.4 rebounds against Russell. Pettit won the Finals against Russell, Cousy, et al. and took them to 7 games the season before. Given that the careers of Pettit and Havlicek overlapped it brings up an obvious question. WTF is Pettit under Havlicek on this list when Havlicek made only 4 1st Teams over his career and was never even top 3 in the MVP vote compared to Pettit's 10 1st teams, 5 top 3 MVP votes, and 2 MVP awards? Shouldn't be close.)

  16. Shit is killing me. I just want him to do what he did in the playoffs. Make easy shit, easy. Don't make shit harder than it is. You are not Trae, Trae is little. You are 6'9. Be 6'9 but be aware at all times as well. I don't mind players missing shots, it's a make or miss league but I want to see consistency in how you get it.

  19. One of Dash's issues was a distrust of humans. When my son was bringing him down for rehab, he broke off his leash and ran away and it took him and a group of volunteers a week to retrap him. This isn't new, he's always trying to get away. So we're at the Silver Comet for our daily walk last week and he leapt over the other dogs and out of the car before we could grab and leash him. He headed up the trail at a quick trot and looked to be running away again. He didn't looked terrified, just determined to go up the trail and get his walk on. This is where he came back to the wife with a few whistles and a call to come. Cannot tell you how much this made my day. He prefers to come back now, instead of running away. He doesn't 100% trust humans yet but he trusts her and that's gigantic progress.

  20. In honor of it being the NBA’s 75th season, the league plans to release something they’re calling the NBA 75, which will feature a list of the 75 greatest players of all time. So we had the brilliant idea to do the exact same thing first. We held a team vote with the opinions of eight HoopsHype staff members, removed the highest and lowest rank for each and awarded points 75-1 for the rest. There are nine players dropping out from the league’s original 50 Greatest list and 34 new entries – including five players who could have made the 1996 list. (Yes, Dominique Wilkins makes the cut this time).

  23. The perfect player who gets the most simple part is Tony Snell. He can do the simple and do it very well. Now when you need to do more is when Snell gets in trouble because he can't. Cam can but he needs to do the simple so he can eventually be trusted to do more.

  24. I let him run the 2nd unit as the point guard. I use his natural skills to score and distribute so not all one on one. Cam just plays too cool for school, he’s gotta ugly it up a bit and be ok with that. This. Just let the game come to you without forcing anything but not being too passive either. It’s a fine line for sure but he needs to find it.

  25. Amazing that Kobe slid as far as he did that year. The top of that draft is pretty stacked so I get not wanting to pass on AI, Camby, Ray Allen, etc. for a high school player at a time when HS guys were disfavored but look who was picked before Kobe in the 9-12 slots: Samaki Walker Erick Dampier Todd Fuller Vitaly Potapenko Wow.

  26. I just hope we can play better than we did the other night. I already can't watch Falcons games, I don't need the Hawks putting up stinkers too. Preseason or not, I need to be entertained and not agitated when I watch lol

  27. Both were power forwards. Both were immediately dominant. Starting as a rookie, Timmy made the All-Star game 9 of his first 10 seasons and was first team All-NBA 8 of his first 10 seasons. Pettit made the ASG and was first team All-NBA for 10 consecutive seasons starting in his rookie year. (Pettit retired after his 11th season when he made the ASG and was 2nd team All-NBA). Both were standouts as scorers and rebounders Petit was top 5 in rebounding and scoring 10 times. Timmy was top 20 in scoring 8 times and top 5 in rebounding 11 times. Timmy was an outstanding passer out of the post while Pettit benefited from the shallower talent pool to post top 20 finishes in assists 6 times. Both dominated their peers: Timmy finished top 5 in PER 8 times versus Pettit's 11 top 5 finishes. (Career 24.5 TD; 25.3 BP). Pettit had 9 top 5 finishes in Win Shares versus 8 times for Timmy. (Career .209 WS/48 TD; .213 WS/48 BP). Both were dominating players. Both won 2 MVPs and Pettit finished top 5 in voting 8 times compared to 9 times for Duncan. Duncan had the longer career but there is no reason to think that Pettit was washed when he hung it up. They aren't the same player and I'd rank Duncan higher on a list like this but there are so many similarities between their impact and versatile skills and parallels between their impact.

  28. I feel like everytime he steps on the floor is a prove it moment. That goes for everyone not named Trae who just has to make sure it's there in the RS.

  29. When you watch Lou, Norm Powell, Gallo. Those are professional scorers. That's what we need from Cam. We get that from Cam. When he got blocked on that layup attempt, I don't mind the miss but I needed to see the adjustment. Why was he not set on two of the three 3 point attempts? He was set on the middys and those looked amazing or good. Cam has the talent but we need to see polish. Polish isn't about makes or misses, its about consistency of form, rhythm, and timing. I saw that from Bogi even though he missed everything v. Miami but I saw what I needed to see. Cam has to have that or man, this might be the end.

  30. His feel for the game still looks off. I think the most frustrating thing is you don't see major improvements from year to year and even if Trae played like shit, everyone knows what he's capable of. See Dieng and Okafor. Both looked like shit against Miami but we give Dieng the benefit of the doubt based on experience while not rewarding that to Okafor. Cam dribbling off his feet, not being set on three just doesn't feel acceptable in year 3. That said, Bogi missed a lot of shots and Trae played like shit, we know Bogi can make those shots. We know Trae can play well. With Cam, there is less margin for error so people will be mad when he struggles offensively. I can't blame them. I wasn't happy with his performance against Miami. I wanted him to take it more seriously. Say what you want about the rooks and playing like shit but they took it seriously. Cam has to take it seriously on both ends. His job isn't steady like Trae's

  36. Breakout year they are missing Hunter. If he stays healthy he’s breaking out. Best point guard in the NBA and Trae doesn’t land top 5, BS! Luka is the 3rd best POINT GUARD and SHOOTING GUARD? Why not make him available in The forward slots as well, and center, and head athletic trainer.. gimme a break. OH SMALL FORWARD TOO! Which player is the best passer: No Trae here huh? He was 2nd in assists in the league … but..but..oh wait they snuck him in.. GM’s probably voted against putting his name in there. Summary: Luka, Curry, Lebron win 90% of the GM’s BS awards. The Warriors and Heat will meet in the finals..-GM’s. GM’s hatin!!!!! Meanwhile we skatin!

  37. I guess it is all about fragile egos but it seems like it would be real easy for team doctors to measure height and weight every preseason and give actual numbers since they list both of those numbers on official league sites and materials.

  39. Happy Birthday! I feel a breakout year coming for him. We are going to see the ECF Cam more consistently throughout the year. I don't expect the shooting percentages to be that elite, but way more consistent shot making and elite defense. I'm still a Cam Stan!
