  2. Forget Hardaway. Bring back Petteway. Mad Ants guard Terran Petteway dominates in star-studded D-League matchup Some thoughts in the article on Hardaway and Tavares as well.
  3. Couldn't disagree more with your assessment. After watching him extensively at Nebraska, I would have leaned that way, but his summer league play (the 3-4 games I saw) was a completely different story. He played consistently in control, brought the ball up the floor, patiently initiated the offense with a simple pass and cut, and had quite a few "hockey" assists (a quick, decisive pass of his would open up a second easy pass leading to a lay-up/dunk or wide open look). I was actually begging him to be more aggressive and show his stuff. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, his stroke was off most of summer league. However, he really has NBA 3 range and great offensive slashing instincts. His defense definitely needs some work. He plays solid defense on his man most of the time, but can get passive and ball watches from time to time instead of crashing the boards. His lack of success on offense can sometimes effect his defensive effort. He lead the Big 10, a solid basketball conference, in scoring his Sophomore year. He dipped his Junior year for well-documented family reasons. His summer league play, if not spectacular, looked really solid to me. If his 3-ball would have been dropping like it normally does, I think he seals a camp invite. I know he'll catch on somewhere. I was just hoping it would be with the Hawks.
  4. Interested to see how Petteway performs. Been following Huskers all my life. Can be a little out of control sometimes and moody. However, he was clutch for the Huskers. Could always find a way to score when a basket was desperately needed. Has legit NBA range from 3. Maybe a little lacking in athleticism and all out speed, but I do think he could be a real spark off the bench. Hope he plays well enough to land somewhere if not the hawks. Haven't had a husker to root for in the league since Lue and Strickland.
  5. It's at the end of the AP writeup. Joe said he told Lue before the 4th quarter that "you never know what to expect". http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2006122001 I wouldn't necessarily read it as a sign of weak leadership on his part. It may be that he wanted guys to ignore the huge lead and focus on finishing the game strong because if you don't "you never know what to expect". I think Josh Smith's comments are more telling. "Even when we're up, our body language says we're losing," Smith said. "We shouldn't feel that way."
  6. looks like the whole team is getting 3-point happy...unfortunately no one is hitting them
  7. Salem, OR of all places! Never even been to Georgia but became a big Hawks from the first time I saw Wilkins spin baseline on his defender and throw down a windmill jam.
  8. Top 10 Intimidating Teams - Fox Sports I wonder if the writer really remembered the team or just threw them in the list after looking up NBA stats.
  9. not so much he doesn't run the floor but it takes him so stinkin' long to secure a rebound and get the ball to someone who does run the floor. Every time he gets a rebound he sticks his elbows out pivots around a couple of times, then looks, then hands off to the closest guard...who by that time has someone guarding him closely and the rest of the d is all manned up on the other end of the floor. Worked great in Lenny's walk the ball up the floor everytime style of play...
  10. I agree that Deke is one of the better players in the league to match up with Shaq in the half court game the lakers would make you play in the finals...if you get there. Problem is Deke will slow up kidd and the uptempo bread-and-butter offense of the Nets that got them to the finals last year so much that they'll never see the lakers in a championship series again. Lakers aren't in the east, no guarantee you have to go through them to win championship anyway. Use the formula that got you through to the Finals, not the one that helps you beat a team that you might not even face at the expense of ruining the chemistry that made you competitive against the other teams in the east who you HAVE to play to get to the championship.
  11. I don't know what most of you come to a message board for, but I come to read what others have to say...and if what they say is interesting and I feel I might actually have something to contribute, I'll respond. It seems kind of silly and redundant for a message on a message board/forum to scream at me to read and/or respond to it. If anything many times it backfires and I don't read the very posts I'm "begged" to read. I interpret (and I am aware I may be the only one) these "pleas" as a lack of confidence by the poster that what they are saying has any merit/interest to other posters. If they don't believe it's interesting enough for me to be drawn to the discussion of that topic of my own accord, so much so that they have to beg me to read it, then I see little reason to take the effort. I don't mean to be critical...and please take what I've said with the light hearted attitude I write it with (Besides who am I to tell you how to post?). But how about letting your posts stand or fall on the merit of your insightful questions and interesting comments? GO HAWKS!
  12. I also agree that Deke will not necessarily help the Nets much. Last year Deke played nothing like he did for the Hawks and for Philly in their Finals run. He just looked plain slow. Other mediocre centers were stepping right around him on their way to the basket. Although he's still intimidating to the driving guard when he's planted under the hoop, once drawn away he could never get back into position quick enough to be much help to his teammates. The Nets just plain outran other teams last year. Deke is great at securing the rebound but he can't outlet fast enough to begin the fast break. If anything playing with Kidd will actually HIGHLIGHT Deke's weaknesses as an offensive scorer. Deke does nothing quickly. There is no advantage to Kidd getting the ball to Deke in a position "he likes" because all of his offensive moves involve stopping looking around, one or two slow dribbles, and finally...if not double-teamed, a shot. Kidd will be pulling his hair out. Deke does not have the quickness, hops, or the hands Shaq, Mourning, and others have to guide an easy alley oop into the basket or get the ball up fast after obtaining inside position. Deke helps the team in a defensive half-court game...like the one's the Lakers killed the Nets with. But the Nets were as successful as they were with an uptempo game. I think any benefits Deke gives them through defense are entirely offset by his plodding offensive game. I think people don't give McCullough enough credit. Though obviously overpowered by Shaq he had good hands and nice moves around the hoop that complimented the style of the team. I suppose in a general sense Deke is a step up (maybe). It was probably the best the Nets could get with what's available. All this makes me even more excited about the potential of the Hawks this season. A healthy Ratliff is exactly the center that an uptempo team like the Hawks (and Nets) need to really compete. Not awesome...but capable scorer around the hoop, good weakside/help defender, but more importantly someone who can outlet the ball quickly and RUN on offense. If only he can be/stay healthy! GO HAWKS!
  13. What gets me is how stuck on themselves these "insiders" are. It's obvious from Ford's chat wrap that the hawks have made it clear to him the Terry is the man at point, yet every single commentator absolutely refuses to believe that this is the case. They understand the game so much better! I also can't believe how they can be so absolutely sure that Dickau who hasn't played a single game yet is the answer at point and not another Bobby Hurley. What is this fixation with the "pure" point guard anyway? There are a lot more ways to win then with these traditionally defined roles. To me it just shows a lack of creativity to believe that you can only have a successful team with a short white guy who only takes the shot when he doesn't have a choice playing the 1. After what I saw at the end of last season, I just feel that Terry is gonna blow people away with his development at the point...especially with some guys who will know what to do with the ball when they get it. I couldn't believe all the times Terry got the ball to someone in perfect scoring position only to see them pass on the shot, flub the catch, or blow the layup. Of course, then we will hear how all these commentators believed all along that Terry was gonna be an all star at point and if only management would have listened to them they would've never made the mistake of slowing his development by trying that "awful" experiment of putting him at the two. They'll all be patting themselves on the backs once again for being such great prognosticators and quickly deep sixing any hyperlinks to their old articles online.

    National TV games

Clippers have 7! I know they have some young talent....when don't they....but give me a break.
  15. Actually the last 2 seasons, you didn't even need to have purchased the league pass to see all the preseason games as well as the 1st 3-4 days of the season. They show all of the preseason games and the 1st few days of the season's worth of games as a preview to what you would get if you purchased league pass...all you have to do is tune your dish to those channels.
