  1. If we are building our team right, I don’t want our center taking 3pt shots. We will have ample number of shooters in spots 1-4. Our center of the future should be able to make free throws, run the floor, rebound, block shots and hit a mid-range jumper.
  2. The Hawks will be a NBADL team this year, but that is ok. Great opportunity to grow our young team especially Collins, Prince and our draft picks Young, Spellman, Huerter. Thereafter we go into the 2019 lottery and wish upon a star for a superstar. But after those lottery dreams are over, we need to try to bring in a star to anchor our franchise. Pairing Karl Anthony Towns with Collins would give us an athletic & explosive front court. It will take a Max Contract to get him here...hopefully our GM can work some magic to bring him or a similar caliber player to Atlanta. If not, I fear we will treating the draft like a wishing well every year.
  3. Exactly...Plus Dallas threw in the future 1st. Travis said the entire Front Office team was divided between Trae and Doncic...The Pick put it over the top for our GM.

  5. Trae has to get stronger, but his shot will improve. Spellman looks good.
  6. Trae Young is probably the reason why its televised on ESPN. Trae Young was the ESPN media darling during the college basketball season. We should see more televised games this summer league season. I'm looking to see the young kid develop! Go HAWKS.
  7. NBA may have to explore re-seeding the playoffs. East will be garbage for the next 3 to 4years.

  9. You are absolutely right. I watch a lot of college basketball and all of our picks are unpolished. However, what the Hawks are banking on is the ability to develop our young team. The Hawks made a big investment in the training facility which should help our guys get stronger and hopefully improve their defensive ability. I can't overstate how bad Trae Young's defensive skills are and our defensive minded coach will earn his paycheck. Travis drafted 3 guys that can shoot well, but our coaching staff has to improve their defensive presence if they hope to logged valuable minutes.
  10. What I'm saying is we can't stay in a perpetual state of mediocrity. I'm saying we should build through the draft and with FA signings, specifically those with rising star potential. Now if you know of a big man that plays defense and can guard the perimeter then by all means show me. Unfortunately, no good free agent wants to come here, so we have to overpay for him....Agree with Billy Knight or not, he knew this when he got Joe Johnson; he paid too steep of a price in my opinion, but we have to pay to play guys OR hope that we get lucky drafting 3 SuperStars like the Golden State Warriors. But one thing that losing organizations do is focus on what is missing and not on what is infront of them. For Example: Hardaway - made tremendous strides and could of solidified our SG spot for 5 years, however many Hawks fans and including Bud thought it was too much too spend. So where are we now. Starting from scratch looking for a SG and hoping he can produce what Hardaway did but to only dream of getting him cheaper. I keep telling people the hardest thing in sports is to be an Atlanta Sports Fan...smdh
  11. If we don't make a commitment to bringing in talent, our existing talent will either leave or force us into bad contracts to keep them. My bad...the Hawks will be Golden State in a few years...I totally missed that. My bad.. smdh
  12. Based on the information scouts, analyst have at this moment - we dont. Now if we are lucky they turn in to stars then the Hawks have finally broke it's draft curse.
  13. Let me provide more clarity. What I'm saying is we shouldnt solely rely on the draft. We need to show that we are committed to winning, by spending money strategically to build. Capela is a good center that demonstrated his talent in the NBA Western Conference Finals. He is athletic and can guard multiple positions...He actually would be great to have to assist with our defensive deficiencies. Now adding him with solid coaching should net us 10 more wins..but it will bring us closer to that 50win team in a couple of years.
  14. Ok b/c Travis tells you we got the players we wanted and you believe him? Similar to Billy Knight saying we got the players we want aka Shelden Williams, Josh Childress, Acie Law, etc.. Remember that? This draft didnt give us a true super star, it gave us solid players with glaring weaknesses. We need to plug some defensive holes and Capela would anchor our defense for atleast the next 3 to 4 years.
  15. Now if you are in the market for waiting 3 to 4 years of losing only to hope that one of these unproven players become special is foolish. We have already done this remember? It's time to change the mindset in Atlanta and aim to be competitive. Sure it may require overpaying, but it is the risk we should take. I applaud Travis for making the gutsy move (Trae Young trade), b/c it gave us an extra draft pick next year, but praying on the draft will keep us in mediocrity. But keep this in mind, no real competitor likes to lose....and we will start developing players only to watch them leave.
  16. Now that the dusk has settled, the Hawks had a slightly above average draft. Let me emphasize slightly above average. Sure Trae Young is flashy on offense, but he can't guard his own shadow. The Maryland kid is a good spot up shooter but average defender, and Omari Spellman could be a steal if he stays in shape. The best part of this draft was Travis Schlenk acquiring a future 1st rounder from Dallas to break the tie in our front office regarding the 3rd Pick. As reported, the front office was split on Trae Young vs Doncic. Travis took a swing for the fence and got insurance with an extra first round pick - as Hawks fans we have to be encouraged with his moves. HOWEVER, we need to make improvements, and not just to Phillips Arena. Hawks should go after Clint Capela to anchor our defense. Sure it will cost us some money, but we definitely need some defensive help in the paint.
  17. Agreed with the Quinn comment, but damn man still too soon after that vision did seem to work in the superbowl. Back to our Hawks: This is a completely different scenario..the Hawks were a playoff team when Bud arrived, now they are no where near a playoff birth..Plus we lost our best player Milsap (2nd leading scorer) and our 3rd leading scorer in Hardaway. This is a significant change, when you're running the offense through Milsap to now seeing who you should run the offense through all together.... As Hawks fans we are hoping Prince, Bembry, even Collins contribute significantly- but Coach Bud has to see how these guys will react being in starting roles, which means changing the rotation almost every other week. The good news is Hawks fans and ownership will learn right away if Prince, Collins, Bembry can be true starters and impact players in the league.
  18. Yes....that is likely starting Center combinations. Stone will spend time in the development league this year people You're joking right? This season will solely be spent on evaluating players ability to play well and in multiple positions. Outside of the PG spot, Bud and our GM will be looking to see how the young talent plays and how effective they are in a variety of situations and positions. This season will be long, but hopefully the young talent shows some promise for the future. if not then we will be starting over from scratch next year...smdh
  19. The likely starting lineup will be: PG: Dennis / SG: Bazemore / Belinelli SF: Prince / Bembry PF: Ilyasova / Collins / ( No Collins won't start right away, once he learns Bud's system he may by Jan 18) C: Dedmond / Muscala / Dorsey
  20. We don't have the talent of the 76ers and they won 28 games last year and yes even the they will be better than the Hawks next season. Plus keep in mind - many of your young players haven't logged significant minutes, nor do we have a consistent shooter of any kind on the roster, and an 82 game season will take it's toll. Bud is a good coach so we should win around 25-30 games.
  21. This was a heavy backcourt heavy draft, 5 PGs, 3 SG, 3 SF were going early...Collins defense was suspect, but I'm definitely not complaining that he fell to us....Bud's offense and defensive expectations will be challenging for him early on; but since we are rebuilding, Collins will start or atleast be the first person off the bench.
  22. Well at least we are serious about tanking, hopefully the Hawks fans will have something to cheer about on lottery draft order day in June 2018... Winter Is Coming Hawks Fans and will probably last more than 3 years. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nba-power-rankings-warriors-are-no-1-duh-where-do-free-agency-players-land/
  23. And this visionary plan is supported by what at this point? Our GM's ability to shed contracts? Our ability to not be proactive to sign an improving SG for a decent contract before losing him for nothing? The Hawks have not been able to attract super star free agents in its entire history, and the fact that we didnt even attempt to offer Milsap a contract does not help the Free Agent PR....In any case, this is built off of hope, we need to hope that Collins who was a solid player in college emerges on the NBA stage, we need to HOPE that Prince will improve, and we need to hope that our Draft fortunes improve.. The Super Teams have change the landscape of the NBA...in a league where stars are few, we need to have at least 1 star to build this process around..WE HAVE NONE. Look at philly they have 3 young stars in and it took them 4 years to assemble that group...So the process doesn't begin until we have one star. My friend i appreciate to optimism, but this is only a 3 year process if we strike gold in the lottery next year with a super star player...and that is not easy to do.
