What is the rationale from a Knicks perspective? Honest question.

Sothron, I very much understand the chain of events if you are Trae... but if Ressler gets the sense that Trae might walk, I think he might look to sell the team before that happens if it is something he is eyeing to do in general. It would be a good exit point relative to a huge rebuild and Trae puts butts in the seats. And hopefully, with Ressler selling the team, it could be enough to keep Trae on and blame the team building issues on Ressler (which isn't too far fetched from a LT perspective).

Total misunderstanding!! I just meant it like “I am not JTB, but…” because the original post was directed to you, not me. I know you have been here a long time and are very level headed and knowledgeable. Hopefully that clears it up!

Not JTB, but there is an overall acknowledgment that things are fluid… just trying to understand how to gauge expectations based on the chatter. While I am not a big poster, I’ve been here since 2006 (I had to look to check!) and have seen enough to know both that our insiders have unique insight and also that nothing is done until it’s done.

All things being equal, I agree. But the DJM experiment isn’t working and it is palpable. There is collective pressure to come to a resolution sooner rather than later as both parties aren’t happy. This isn’t simply an exercise (like usual) where the team’s sole aim is to extract as much value as possible which traditionally necessitates waiting until the 11th hour. Thankfully, DJM is a valuable player on a good contract, so the timing shouldn’t suppress the overall return to the Hawks.

Mikey/Sothron - how would you rate the trade you heard from 1-10? I imagine you can’t give details, but any color would be appreciated!

While the thought of KAT is amazing, his contract is enormous and gives me pause. Am I crazy?

What would a reasonable package look like between ATL & MIN with those two players as the main pieces?

I think this is simply sound risk management rather than any deviation from the consistent refrains of Trae’s commitment to Atlanta and vice versa. We don’t want to be Portland. Dame seemed to be one of the most loyal superstars… until he wasn’t. It’s always important to have a decent Plan B even if it isn’t anybody’s Plan A.

Sorry, I meant to include Gay as I know that's required to make it work. I'd try to get away with not sending out the 2029 1st or at the very least make it a future 2nd... I imagine his contract will be very difficult for any team that acquires him.

Seeing KAT's contract makes me really nervous down the line... Does Capela/Bey/SAC 1st get it done or is that too favorable for the Hawks? I'd have to think we have some leverage given their financial situation.

SERIOUS credit to the insiders on this one... nobody would have dreamed DJM signs an extension with us about a week ago, and it happened. Hard for any doubter to think our insiders just got lucky on this one. It is also great to see what was predicted happened to be something no NBA all-star has EVER done for Atlanta - take significantly less than market value just to stay with us. Amazing!

Do we think the team would be better if we traded DJM + fillers for Jaylen Brown? Is that possible? If we get JB without giving up DJM, we will have 3 very expensive guards, and a lot of our young cheap talent is out the door.

I might be in the minority, but I don’t think DJM fits in well enough with Trae over the long-term. I love that he is a legit #2 scorer, but he has been disappointing on the defensive end, and we need shooting wherever we can get it. If Jaylen Brown wants out of BOS, any shot of a Brown-for-DJM trade? I don’t see how adding Brown alongside Trae and DJM helps our club - you can’t create enough touches for either of them to reach their potential.

Of course, that is the hope. But that is not always the case! Just trying to prepare myself… should I be excited or nervous or both?

Sothron - based on your knowledge of the minor and major deals out there, can you say whether you view them as wins? Hopefully that isn’t too much to spoil it.

Do y’all do JC and Dieng (needed for cap purposes) for Simmons straight up? I’m not sure I do.

I think it is one or the other - we keep the majority of the draft capital (including JJ in that category) and take on Harris's contract or we give up the picks while finding a third-party suitor for that contract. Can't do both.

Supes/Campster/Sothron… what are you hearing about potential follow up activity after the Reddish trade?

I'd love to hear how insiders are responding to this news and if they view a follow-up move as the catalyst for this... obviously, we have our own reaction, but more context would be helpful!

The part that has me concerned was that it seemed to be both the Hawks intention as well as Cam's for him to play in the Summer League... until it wasn't. I believe Cam tweeted something just a week ago about the Hawks SL team being like the USA Olympic team (implying he'd be on it).

Any insight as to why he would be pulled from the Summer League roster?

I think it’s a sign that Delon Wright became available and Schlenk views him as an upgrade to the original LouWill plan. A heist from TS taking two negatives (plus a 2nd rounder) and coming out with Delon Wright!

One thing that seems to get forgotten… this team has incredible depth. No Hunter or Reddish. Bogi and Huerter were practically useless tonight. Capela severely struggled. And yet, we still have other guys that can carry water outside of Trae (JC, Lou, Gallo). The way this team is designed, we can have multiple people really struggle and ultimately not miss a beat as a team because odds are, a few guys will go off and meaningfully contribute… kudos to Schlenk.
