I mean there is such a thing as growing organically, guys.  If we had a team full of veterans, then you could reasonably expect to get the same results by running it back with the same squad.  But you have to remember that we still have a very young group.  Outside of Bogi and Capela, every single one of our important players are 26 years old or younger.  I think it's fair to expect that most of those guys will improve just from the natural progression that comes with age and experience.  Now throw in a new coach who is known for his player developmental skills, and you have a recipe to accelerate that growth even quicker.  And it's not outside the realm of possibility that one of those young guys, whether it be OO, JJ, AJ, Hunter, Bey or whomever, to break out this year and become that third star that most fans are clamoring for.  I'm just saying it's not the end of the world if we do end up running it back, especially with this squad.  I would much, much, much rather Landry do that than end up accepting a bad deal.

I am fine with that approach, I think we will see improvements from OO, JJ, AJ and I could even expect some improvement on Hunter and Bey, the problem I see is the way the roster is built. We are weak on the frontcourt, we lack size, spacing, defense and rebounding.  I am fine trying JJ as starter PF but if we do that bet we need a solid backup PF and we don’t have that one, I don’t see Bey as a backup PF. We need a stretch PF or C that is big, can rebound and defend some. We had great opportunities with Bamba and Bryant but they are gone on reasonable contracts we could assume. If we go with this roster we are going to get destroyed on the paint.

  2. I think It will be a timeshare between Bey and JJ. I think we can expand the role of JJ to 22-25mpg, that is going to give you defense, rebounding and some playmaking from PF position, Bey Will give you 25-30 mpg as offensive specialist from 3 pt. The problem I see is who shares the Frontcourt with JJ..

I don't really agree with this assessment.

I think we have to be realistic about what we have without the trappings of wanting more.

    DO we really have holes...

Trae= Best PG in the game. DJ = Allstar Guard. Clint = Allstar like C. JJ, AJ, OO, Bey = Young with potential. Any of these guys can turn the corner and be an allstar.

Bogi, Bey Two of the best three point shooters in the game.

AJ = Budding three point shooter.

    Dre= Nonimpact defensive specialist.

    Mills = Veteran BU PG.

Vit = Best cheerleader you can hope for.

Bufkin and Mo G.... Really good potential.. will probably play in College Park.

So all & all, we have a very good squad. The test is going to be JJ, AJ, OO, Bey.. one of these guys stepping up.

    This is a complete exageration

Trae Young is not the best PG on the league, Curry, Doncic, Shai, Irving, Garland and Murray, he was 10th PG on WAR last year.

Capela is not an all-star center, Jokic, Embiid, David, Adebayo, JJJ, Sabonis... he as 14th on WAR, 11th on RAPToR.

Bogi and Bey are not one of the 2 best 3 pt shooters, Bogi was 25th last year, Bey is not even top 100...

Let's realize about the true level of our players before thinking we are a lock on Top 3

Funny how you got 2 - 4 teams on here that have lost players or have stood pat but now they're better than us when they weren't even better than us record wise then 😆 Great logic (grass always greener).

Is just the opposite, we lost a starter that has not been replaced by anyone and by some magic you think doing that we are better than the east champions…. We will be with the same record next year, 0.500 and that is assuming JJ makes the expected leap and we avoid injuries that is not a guarantee.

Toronto is on the same situation but replaced Van Vleet with Schröder and Flynn is a capable PG. Van Vleet scoring will be shared by Barnes, OG, Siakam, Trent, Poetl, they have a lot of quality players. They had the same record as us last year.

Charlotte was fighting with us on a .500 record when they had Lamelo and Bridges 2seasons ago, last season they lost everyone, this season they are recovering all players and have added Brandon Miller.
Chicago had nearly the same record. They added Carter and Craig that fill their needs.

This logic is pure data and not assumptions and guesses due to change of coaching that you are making.

All these teams made more than us to improve, I am not saying they are better than us, I think they will be on the same tier but no way we are on the same tier as teams that won more than 50 games last year and Miami. We are not winning 50 this year, Milwaukee, Philly, Boston and Cleveland will do and we are not the playoff team Miami is with Bam, Butler, Herro, Lowry, Love…

It's been reported that he's there to work on his defense and told to ignore offense.  Let the young Hawks score!

Hopefully that is the case, as I have said many times, I think he is the best project we have, I think he can be our Jaylen Brown, better shooter, less strong and finisher at the rim. But his performance at SL and him going down with Quinn has really worried me. He played 20 mpg on 72 games last year, Atlanta organization should be looking to increase that role to 25-28mpg, I think he has the chance with Collins and Aaron Holiday out.

    What is your basis??

Unless Miami gets Lillard, they are going to be a good dumpster team. Not the top tier team and not better than us.

    You said Charlotte and Toronto?

Miami got the finals, they added Josh Richardson and Thomas Bryant, that are real quality pieces, to an already deep team, you think we are better than them? Why? Because we won one game? If they avoid injuries and If they add Lillard... Orlando Robinson is growing a lot too...

Charlotte had a injury depleted roster last year. Lamelo is back and also Hayward and Miles Bridges. Mark Williams and Nick Richards will give them an improvement, they might be fighting with us.

Toronto, they added Portal that is a real upgrade, sure they lost Van Vleet but they still have Barnes, Trent, Anunoby Siakam, Boucher,  Achiuwa, Portal, they are really a good team.

    And I forgot about Chicago.

We barely made the playoffs last year, we lost Collins and added nothing, why you think we should be ahead of those teams this year?

  7. Miami, Boston, Celeveland, Milwaukee and Philly are better than us.

We are a tier below with New York, Toronto, Brooklin, Charlotte fighting for the playoffs.

For Atlanta to go for next tier we need a step forward from Hunter, JJ and OO and to be lucky with injuries

  8. Now that seems that JB pipe dream is gone and KAT and Siakam look really far, I wonder if we could just try to sign some FAs to complete the team.

Kelly Oubre might be a good addition to our F position. He can be signed by the minimum deal unless someone gives him MLE which is unlikely at this point if you ask me. Can play SF and PF and would add shooting to our team.

Dedmon might be a good option as well, capable defender, stretch 5, is a good fit for our team for limited role that can offer you quality minutes vs big centers.

  9. I agree wit this statement, I think JJ, OO and AJ give us an incredible advantage, if given the minutes you get unbelievable production for little money and I think we need to look for options to open minutes for them. That is a big plus for a playoff team because you can send important players out for a proven star and replace their production by cheap players on rookie deals, of course lack of experience might cost some games but all of them might start. If we can add Bufkin and Gueye to this trio with similar potential watch out!! We are really deep.

     Currently our starting 5 is

    Starting: Young/Murray/Hunter/JJ/ Capela

    2nd unit: Mills/Bogi/AJ/Bey/OO

    3rd unit Bufkin/Matthews/Lundy/Gueye/Bruno

2nd unit is probably very undersized but 3rd unit has the potential to step in case we do a trade for a star player with 2-3 players going out as Capela, Hunter and Bogi that I think are the most likely to go. Matthews and Lundy can replace Bogi’s shooting, Bey or AJ can replace Hunter if we get a starting PF or C and Bruno would be forced to step on the rotation to replace Capela, I don’t have so clear that move, probably we need to go to FAgency.

  10. I starting to like what I see from Lundy, still need to see him a lot on defense but I think his game fits well with what we are looking for, same applies to Matthews but I think he can only play SG, cheap replacement for Bogi. I don’t see a fit on Martin game

I wouldn't bet on the "student" driver to be my getaway driver so yeah I agree Patty should play the Bulk of the back up role.

Still it's a long season and Bufkin should be ready by at least half the season to play some spot minutes and possibly a backup role

Hopefully is that way but I see him really far from there.

Spacing would be a problem but our offense was pretty good last year with a non-shooter in JC at the 4. I’m not advocating for siakam over KAT. Just pointing out a fact.

Well, JC shot 35-40% of his shots from 3, Siakam 20%.

Collins shot 10 shots per game, Siakam 18.

That is a huge difference. We were good on offense when we had a shooting PF playing significant minutes as Gallo. We were not as good last year with better players.

WE NEED A SHOOTING BIG BADLY!!!

  13. Is clear we need to improve our defense, size, strength and shooting.

Siakam is a good defender but is a poor fit with OO and Murray, really poor fit, we need a shooting big badly. Siakam would destroy our offense and I am not sold on the defense improvement he is going to give, our frontcourt would be undersized and we would have problems with big centers. He is already 29 and we would need to pay him till 35…. Is not a lock he is resigning, I see very little positives.

KAT is younger, fits better with our starting lineup. I think the fit with OO is great and is a real difference maker on offense. I can see KAT, Young, and Bey playing outside while DJM shots from outside and midrange and OO operates on pick and roll. Is a very balanced team. KAT could defend the C where is more confident and OO might defend the PF. This is a real good fit.

I don’t want to give any assets for Siakam, I would prefer to go as we are or trade Capela for a shooting Center as Miles Turner or other

On the "highest ceiling" thing. Number 1 thing you have to do to be considered like that is be able to draw fouls, get easy points at the line. I don't see AJ being able to generate offense when the shot isn't falling. He isn't taking anyone off the dribble, making the defense move. Remember his early success if partially due to teams forcing him to make shots before focusing too much on him on offense. His second half struggles was a mixture of tighter D and leg fatigue late in the season. But in order for me to go team AJ for "highest ceiling", I'm going to have to see him be able to generate his own looks and draw fouls.

Well, I don't agree. He usually goes inside, looking for his own shot, is true that currently mainly uses a floater but that floater is money. He has shown dribbling abilities, spin moves even some post moves. He has shot on his rookie campaign with percentages hardly seen on a rookie. Finishes well in Contact, has not drawn more fouls because he is a rookie but creates a lot of shorts from dribbling...

No player on this team has shown this kind of abilities so early, just Trae.

His summer league performance has been painful to watch.

  15. I think is really concerning AJ 2 games. He is supposed to dominate on SL and he is playing poorly. He cannot put the ball on the dolor, cannot go inside, cannot shoot, looks desinterested... Different guy to what we saw last year. I am concerned because he dissapeared when Quinn arrived and I am beginning to panic. Clearly he is not well on this system but he is the Guy with highest celiling on the team. Quinn needs to look for a way to make hin a contributor.
