1 more game and it will be over!  @Diesel will have to stop his hatred of Hunter and stop mischaracterizing him as Marvin William 2.0 forever!  Also @AHF will have to admit that it is now 3 coaches that see more in Hunter than his own fans which is sad.  @TheNorthCydeRises will have to stop trying to trade him. @theheroatl will stop trying to bench him and @terrell will have to stop dogging him during the game threads although the latter is wishful thinking...LOL   De'andre Hunter will finally be fully embraced by this fan base and seen as a valuable starter on this team for years to come!

This is Diesel’s referendum to be clear. Lol. Seriously though, the only reason I get so mad at Dre sometimes is that I know that the only way we will be a championship level team is if he embraces his role as the best defensive player on the team. That means hustle plays, defensive rebounding, talking, and consistent effort. If he did that along with his other natural talent, we would be contenders with him and Trae. So far this season he seems to be doing that.

Oh and for @TheNorthCydeRises.   I don't disagree with what you have said... if we were talking about an overall critique of Dre' as a Player.   6 games is not enough time to change what we have noted for 4 years...  I agree with that.

No.  My referendum was more about Dre as a Hawk.  If after 6 games, he showed absolutely no response to Quin's system and he still gave us lack luster play, my counter would have been, let's trade his arse away as soon as possible.

Why??.. Because under those circumstance, Bey would have been better....and we could start really exploring the development of AJ.

That would have been my prescription for 6 games of Old Dre.  I believe that 6 games would have been enough for us to know if it's time to move in a different direction.

So what is your decision on Dre based on these 6 games?

One thing I noticed is that tonight , Trae stayed very high at the top of the arc , which made it easier for him to see the traps or off ball gaps of the defender easier.

Lately Trae has been finding himself in easy traps at the top corners of the 3pt line. It just makes a lot more sense if he runs most his plays at the top of the arc if he’s going to have the ball in his hands. That way he can dictate the defense and figure out where the openings will be.

I personally liked this game from Trae even though he only went 5/14 but I will take it ! 11 dimes and he wasn’t forcing all his shots. He did for 2 or 3.

the effort defensively was there by Trae and the whole team.

Nah but I do agree with him playing close to starter minutes on nights he has it going .

I noticed this too. They were picking up Trae at half court. The best thing about it though was that the entire team understood the spacing and started their offense like a 5 out but from half court instead of the three point line.  I knew right away that Trae would take advantage of that with his passing or dribble penetration. That is the magic of being able to make shots from long distance.

🤔...I'll have to look again, but I don't remember that at all.

They can keep all of the bolded above since they are their own players,  there will just be harsher consequences and limited back end roster players.

Here's the thing, most teams will be in the same boat if they draft well and have 2 max contracts.

Nope. There will always be the next guy making more as the cap rises a max 10% each year.

A Tatum Supermax will be 35% of $164.5 million next offseason for $57.5 in year 1.

Donovan Mitchell will be due his extension the following year with the cap at $180 mil.

Trae's extension year the cap will be close to $200 mil...if he makes AllNBA he starts at $69 mil

Correct but when you factor in that it will only be a 3 year deal instead of a 5 year deal then Mitchel will max out at about 200 million over three years vs 300 million in guaranteed money over 5 years that JB will get.  The upside for Mitchell is if he is still playing at an all pro level after his three years, he could get another big contract. But if he gets hurt or starts to stink it up, he may not see that type of money ever again.  I like the new CBA in that respect.

These new max deals will continually be like this, we have to adjust our thinking to match what the new CBA values are.

I predict Jayson Tatum will be the highest paid nba player ever as he get a contract similar to this before the CBA restrictions kick in after the ‘24 season when contract extensions will be limited to 3 years.

This is where Jaybird comes in and corrects me. Lol.

If the team is mediocre next year without any changes, is this a reflection on Young and Murray?  Especially if the other players serve their role adequately?

It will likely be more of an indication of how much the rest of the nba has improved.  I don’t think people realize how many good players and teams there are in the nba right now. With the new format of play-in and in-season tournaments, even worst teams in the nba will be competing at a high level. I am willing to go out on a limb and say there will be no team in the nba that will have more than 61 wins and no team with fewer than 20. That means the Hawks would probably be around a 43 win team if there were no more major additions. To me, that is the most realistic positive outcome.  Trae and Murray will have had a great season if that is the case. Now the real question is what playoff seed will they have with 43 or so wins?  Also, I would still put my money on a Trae, DJ, and Snyder lead team in the playoffs to upset a lot of teams. I think there will be more parody in the NBA and we will have to be patient and supportive until the bitter end.
