  1. I don’t follow the KAT angle. Supposing he becomes available, I find it hard to believe we will field the most competitive offer for him. He’ll be expensive — got to think we’d have to include JJ and whatever firsts we can send. And supposing we land him, can we fill out the roster with talent/depth while paying KAT/Trae a combined $92M? I’m no capologist but it seems unlikely. And KAT/Trae/pieces may not even crack the third seed in the East. Winning is hard. Our current trajectory is perennial play-in team. I know many of you think it is foolish, but I think trading Trae absolutely should be on the table.
  2. So our current position is this: (1) a meddlesome owner, (2) an inexperienced FO with a side of nepotism, (3) no draft capital, and (4) a talent deficiency. Where do we go from here? Can we build a contender around Trae while paying him ~$45M/year? Personally I don’t think so. And I don’t think trading DJM, Capela, Hunter, or Bogi will move the needle much in terms of draft capital and talent. If SA offers all of our picks/swaps plus some combination of young talent and draft picks for Trae… I’d pull the trigger. Side note, why on earth did Quin want to come here?
  3. Been lurking on this mess of a thread. Best part is how @Hawkmoor keeps talking about his Murray trade proposal from 2020 (or something) and literally everybody ignores him each time he pats himself on the back. It has happened like eight times lol. It’s almost as if trading for a good player isn’t a novel idea.
  4. I know there was some discussion on whether Gallo is a SF or PF at this point in his career, but it would be great to start him at SF. Trae/Cam/Gallo/JC/Capella.
  5. Page 402 and we’ve resorted to asking Supes what he made for dinner lol.
  6. Scrolled through and haven’t seen anybody post updated splits for Cam. Last night obviously helped. Looking good! Month: FG% / 3P% / TS% Oct: 0.209 / 0.056 / 0.279 Nov: 0.320 / 0.279 / 0.428 Dec: 0.359 / 0.310 / 0.467 Jan: 0.391 / 0.400 / 0.527
  7. Listen, how do I change my username? Mario West is old news. FirstoLasto is the move. I've shared this before, but my favorite Hawks memory involves Teague. Remember the 2015 EC Semi Final series with the Wizards? Game 6? Paul Pierce hits a three at the buzzer to send the game to overtime... but the shot was waved off after video replay. I was at the game. Before the announcer made the official call that the shot didn't count, I saw Teague going ballistic (celebrating) near the bench and I knew what the call was going to be. Suck it, Pierce.
  8. Truly, what’s the point of acquiring any players if our offensive scheme seems destined to be “lol I dunno”? Can we move Crabbe for a scheme?
  9. What I’ve been wondering is what if we had both... Draft/keep Luka at 3, trade for Mavs pick at 5 (or elsewhere in the first) and take Trae. Core of Trae/Luka/John.
  10. I wonder if we’ve kicked the tires on Horford at all (would require stretching Plumlee but it’s otherwise possible, I think?). He’ll have multiple offers and he’s a great fit anywhere, so it’s a matter of what he’s looking for.
  11. I was just typing this up! Beat me to it. To suggest that Capela is a better shooter simply because he dunks the ball more frequently and hits more layups is disingenuous. Also they each had 1.6 blocks per 36 last year. Capela is a valuable player but Dedmon's game is certainly more well-rounded. Could be a mobile issue. That or Diesel's sabbatical was spent learning how to code in HTML so he could take the Squawk by storm.
  12. I think that 60-win team reached their ceiling. Ferry's biggest mistake here was the LD/Giannis one. Replace the 2013 Dennis/Lucas draft with a Giannis/Dennis draft and maybe we break through the ceiling (but in the hands of the underwhelming BudCox GM team, who knows).
  13. While you guys were over at RealGM, I was lurking on the Hawks subreddit. It's an interesting place. The highlight was when they memed Deyonta Davis onto the team. They chose a random player (Deyonta), started making memes about him, and he was on the team a week later. Anyway, glad to see we're up and running here. Many thanks to those who made it happen.
  14. I’d rather see another thread derailed with a tank “discussion” than read more of this back and forth. Melo waived. /thread
  15. From a basketball perspective, I like this move and I wouldn't mind keeping Lin around if he's cool sliding into the BU PG role down the line. He can hold his own on the court and he has always seemed like a smart, poised, high character guy. That's the type of guy you want mentoring Young. From a business perspective, this move is suspect. As others have pointed out: If we wanted a third PG, we could get one for much cheaper. The Nets/Nuggets swap is exactly the type of move we should have made. We now have less cap space to use to absorb "bad" contracts for assets. The lone asset we acquired in this deal is a second round pick seven years from now? So, currently, that player is ~12 years old. I'm hoping a Schro trade follows soon. I can't imagine another team will give us anything worthwhile for Schro, so the trade might have to be a contract swap. Candidates? Ryan Anderson, Joakim Noah, Harrison Barnes... Who else?
  16. Only because I've been seeing so many Trae/Steph Atl/GS comparisons... The Warriors returned to the playoffs in Steph's fourth season (note he missed most of his third season). I think that's a reasonable timeline for us -- perhaps a year sooner given the East/West (im)balance. I think most of us here would echo @turnermx in that we'll be riding with the Hawks regardless of how long the rebuild takes.
  17. Lol, what a bizarre timeline. In the words of @benhillboy, you gotta goon it up sometimes. That or LeBron's rumored Space Jam 2 is going to be a reality TV show and they want to infuse it with endless Shaqtin-a-fool moments.
  18. Bud got pulled over and arrested for DUI shortly after he was hired. Pierce’s current timeline is certainly better than that one, yeah? It’s way early but so far, so good.
  19. I’m going to assume it’s an eligibility thing for Bembry? A quick Google search yielded no eligibility rules and I don’t follow SL close enough to know if players with 2+ years of experience have historically played. All that said, it feels like this is basically Bembry’s third shot at his rookie year. I’m pulling for the guy but it has been a frustrating journey so far.
  20. The biggest mistake the Braves made in their rebuild was using Kimbrel to unload BJ (or Melvin, whatever) Upton’s albatross contract. I doubt Schlenk makes a similar mistake. The premise here is silly. (Side note: That trade did net us a draft pick that became Austin Riley, but attaching Upton’s contract to Kimbrel certainly devalued Kimbrel at a time when the Braves were supposed to be collecting assets.)
  21. Looks like voting on the poll is about wrapped up. Posting the results here instead of bumping the other thread. Average score (where 1 = hate the pick, 5 = love the pick) Percentage of Squawkers likely to be suffering from a meltdown
  22. Average scores as of this evening...
