  1. I am so sorry to risk killing the buzz that we all feel right now. I mean, watching these games is just awesome. We have never had a Hawk team like this. They are really, really good. And that's why I ask this question: when is Danny Ferry coming back? Because let's be honest, this is only happening primarily because of Danny Ferry. Ferry hired Buldenhozer. Ferry managed to get rid of Joe Johnson's hideous franchise killing contract (something some of us had been saying needed to be done since it was signed). Ferry got Millsap at an incredible bargain. Ferry, from the beginning, said he wanted to build a team of shooters and brought in stretch bigs like Antić and Millsap who can shoot. And our team can sure shoot. They pass. They play defense. Danny Ferry built a freaking amazing franchise that is set up for years. Was there a higher dream than to become the Spurs of the East. And is that not what we have become? Because of Danny Ferry I know what he said was wrong. It's probably even terrible. It was a very weird thing to say. I honestly don't really even know if I fully understand what he meant (Although Ferry is not actually the one who wrote it; he was reading someone else's comments.) He obviously, the writer, questions Deng's character and in doing so made some sort of racist remark about African people. And Ferry, when discussing the player and reading the scout's evaluation of Deng, decided to read those comments. They were strange comments. I could see myself bringing up the comments while analyzing the player. I'm pretty sure I would have followed the comments by saying, "That's one of the weirdest things I've ever heard," but I'm not really necessarily surprised he read them. But it was wrong. He shouldn't have read the comments or should have condemned them. And he didn't. He f'd up. But this is crazy, y'all. The man has profusely apologized. He went around and tried to learn more about diversity and met with members of the African and African-American communities. Olajuwon has forgiven him. Are we better than Hakeem Olajuwon? How much of a price should the man have to pay when he gave us everything we have. Did the owners do something to create this amazing team? Ferry picked the players. Ferry picked the coach. When does Danny Ferry come back?
  2. PG: Teague, Schröder, Mack SG: Korver, Bazeman SF: Carroll, Sefolosha PF: Horford, Payne C: Monroe, Antić, Muscala Plus one? Top 2 in East?
  3. Guess we don't have Williams. GREAT article... http://www.peachtreehoops.com/2014/6/30/5855968/atlanta-hawks-salary-cap-lou-williams-trade
  4. :p Let me dream, you haters... We need a small forward. We could easily make space........ We have a great roster. Teague, Horford, and Korver. Trade Millsap (to create cap space, shed his expiring contract, and receive good value for a great player). Scott and the Michigan State kid can play PF. Depth (Schröder, Mack, Williams, Carroll, etc). Tell me two teams that could offer LeBron a max contract and surround him with better talent than the Hawks. He could own Atlanta forever. Urban flavor. If he wins championships he'll get endorsements. He wants championships. Who can surround him with better talent? Who was his GM in Cleveland. Hawks lock. Let me dream you haters...
  5. Seems like Antić isn't a huge step below Gortat. Both tall, leaner foreign players. Similar games, you think? (I haven't had a lot of time to watch the games like you guys have).Nene is playing great but Millsap is a great player, too. I'd imagine Brand will get some time guarding Nene (and Gortat, as well). In general, it seems like maybe Washington's starters are all a little better than ours, but we're much deeper. They seem to be playing their starters all 35+, Then Booker and Webster getting some time. And Andre Miller and Drew Gooden less so. We've got Antić and Millsap (who probably aren't as good of a front court as Nen and Gortat), but throw in Brand and Scott perhaps we can be more fresh if the season goes 6 or 7? Ariza is a tough matchup for Carroll (or Scott...who do you think will get some time at the 3...or Korver?). And Beal will be very tough for Korver and Louis Williams. Teague and Wall will be one of the most interesting matchups to watch. Wall is a better player than Teague. But, Wall is playing nearly 40 minutes a game. Teague has Mack and Williams to share time with. What do you guys think? Without Horford, their starters are better. But can those guys keep playing 35+ every game? They finished their series in 5. We need to finish ours at home in 6 so they don't have a ton of time to rest. Should be an interesting series if we can close a struggling Indy team out
  6. One more game with two to go! Wizards up 3-1. Let's close this out and see if we can go take down the Wizards. How good would it be for free agency if we could make it to the Conference Finals? Hawks go and get a GM from the Spurs organization. Falcons go and get a GM from the Patriots. We deserve this.
  7. I can see that maybe Stephenson has some locker room problems. I don't have time to follow the entire NBA. Barely have time to still follow the Hawks. But, I guess if we can pick up a really good SG or SF...and draft a really good big man in the draft (we'll have two mid to mid-late 1st round picks to work with)...then we should be very, very good. I don't see a team other than the Heat that should be better than us, frankly.
  8. My idea is to pay whatever we need to pay to sign Lance Stephenson from the Pacers. If we do that, our back court next year is: Teague, Stephenson, Mack, Lou Williams, and Korver could play a little bit at the 2 (spending most of his time as our starter at the 3). Korver starts at the 3, but splits time with Carroll. Then you've got Millsap and Horford as a great team in the front court (being backed up by Scott and Antić). You'd need to try to draft a couple of big guys. Of maybe trade up to get one good big guy to join Horford, Millsap, and Scott, But then you'd have a team that could compete with any team in the East (and you'd cripple Indiana at the same time).
  9. I don't post here very often. I live overseas and I am very busy right now in life. But I really am excited about the future of our franchise. It was a rough year without Horford. Honestly, I didn't get to watch any games (time difference and life). But what's happening right now against the Pacers could finally be the pivotal point in our team's history in Atlanta. I've been rooting for this team for more than 25 years. I can remember all of the bad years. And all of the disappoinments. But this really might finally be it. Honestly, after beating the Pacers late in the season (and knowing what a bad matchup we are for them due to being able to take Hibbert out of the paint), I almost picked us to beat them. But, I've seen us F it up so many times before, I just couldn't trust them. But I love what I'm seeing and we only need to win 2 of 4...with two more games at home. And Indiana looks terrible. Why am I so optimistic about the future? Just because of two games or one series? Hardly. The Wizards won the first two in Chicago..They've got 4 games to win 2 more,,,with 3 at home. Sure, the Wizards beat us 3 out of 4 (including one game in ATL that went into OT). But, that's a lot better than Chicago, which swept us and kicked our butts. The Wizards have won one playoff series in the last 30 years. One playoff series...in 30 years. They hadn't been to the playoffs in like 6 years. We've won 3 playoff series in the last 5 seasons...if we win in the first round this year and then it's 4 playoff series in 6 season. Sure, the Wizards won't be easy. But I'll take our chances. And if we can make it to the Eastern Conference Finals, we'll probably lose. I know we split the series with Miami during the regular season, but I'm honest with myself. But here's the point: Imagine we did make the Eastern Conference finals. Imagine we win 2 of the next 4 (with two at home) against a team we've shown we can beat (we've won 4 of the last 7...including twice in Indiana). Imagine the Wizards win two of the next 4 (against a team that they're 4-1 against this season)...with 3 more home games. And then imagine we manage to beat a tough young team with a 2nd year head coach who has won 1 playoff series in 30 years. We, at worst, would head into the offseason having made the Eastern Conference Finals. We'll have more than $13 million in capspace, I believe (and flexibility...pieces we could move if we wanted to). We'll have two first round draft picks. We'll have a great head coach and a great GM who both learned from the best run franchise in the NBA. We'll have a legimite case to make to free agents that we can be a winning team (and a pretty fun city to live in...depending on your definition of fun, maybe. NBA guys love ATL...we're just a small market who has never won before). This is all only possible because of Danny Ferry. And the people who wanted to keep Joe Johnson and his hideous contract will be proven definitively wrong. I knew the minute we hired Danny Ferry he was going to turn it around. Some people are just winners. Billy Knight is obviously not one of them. Sund was a decent bridge from that disaster of Knight, but we might have finally found our savior. Go Hawks!
  10. I trust Ferry, pretty much completely, but he's just got a terrible, terrible uphill battle overcoming the stain we apparently have. Everybody wants to play in LA, NY, Boston, Miami, Chicago...big markets. We have a huge problem attracting the best players. It's hard to overcome sometimes for anybody...even Ferry.
  11. we're not going to land Paul. (And in all likelihood Howard...since the rumor has always been he didn't want to play in Atlanta...we were just his best chance to play with Paul). Honestly, in my heart I always knew we could never be so lucky. Of course something like the L.A. Clippers trading a draft pick for Doc Rivers would be the dagger that destroyed the Hawks' chances of landing the two superstars. We can not catch a break. Maybe Ferry has got this under control with a really good Plan B and Plan C. Maybe we could have Howard, still, with Horford and Smith. That'd easily be the best front court in the NBA, no? Or maybe we miss on both and he can put together a really great team of role players and mid-tier stars. Who knows? But it seems like we can't catch a break no matter what.
  12. http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/9327713/chris-paul-upset-los-angeles-clippers-factor-impending-free-agency Apparently Chris Paul is upset that the Clippers owner implied that Del Negro was fired at his request. I mean, how incredibly lucky would it be if one of the top two free agents decided to sign with us because of something like this...and then attracting the other top free agent to come with him...even though he originally didn't seem to want to. Is it still likely? Probably not...but maybe just because we never have such incredible luck.
  13. Soooo much better than Stan Van Gundy, by the way. Had read a story a few weeks ago Ferry wanted Stan Van Gundy and it horrified me.
