Official Game Thread: Knicks at Hawks -- The Home Opener!
Plainview1981 replied to lethalweapon3's topic in Homecourt
This kind of shows that it isn't all about numbers. Trae can get Nash like assist numbers, but he is not going to run a team oriented offense. Neither is Murray. Both need a guard that can create some. but still just be able to shoot when need be. The losses of Kevin and Gallo have hurt Trae. I know Gallo wasn't a guard, but he could play like one when needed. The Hawks needed a more aggressive version of Huerter, not another ball stopping SG.- 465 replies

They're not going to want to trade Trae because of the marketing factor. That was clearly the main point in getting him in the first place.- 465 replies

On a contending team or a team with ambitious, Hunter will be sort of a "glue" player. Where he can just shoot his 3's and defend without anybody needing much else from him.

Hunter is a better scoring Ty Corbin. That's about it.

Part of it also is that when Trae came to the team there wasn't any expectations to win. So, him doing his Trae thing was fun. But yeah, teams have adjusted to Trae. Not to the extent that they will shut him down nightly or anything, but it doesn't feel like the Trae/Cap combo works aswell as it did a few years ago. I do think Trae can benefit from a big man that can shoot, pass and display versatility. Could you imagine Trae and The Joker? Geez.lol

I think Tony is fine with so so teams as long as Trae gets people to games.

Trae was so much fun to watch his first two or three seasons. Now? Eh.

Well, if that doesn't show you that Trae has been working on his shooting this offseason, I don't know what will.

We've been there before. This franchise has not shown that it can get to the next level. I'm not going to even go on to rip the players in a way that I might have years ago. They have lost talent. You have what was a largely mediocre season year.... What do you do in response? You lose talent and do lateral moves. They wait too long to trade Collins. They did nothing notable to make this roster better following that. It boiled down to "We like our young guys". Ok, but... There is nothing to suggest that the folks at the top are determined to get to the next level. The current players and the coaching staff are capable of going out there and doing better than last year, but they also got to overcome ho-hum ownership and management.

This is always a simplistic and silly take. I've seen mediocre to mid-level from this team several times before. What's exciting about it? There's nothing special about winning 45-50 games and getting thrown out in the first or second round. This franchise isn't trying to win a title. It's the same franchise with the same kind of management it has always had. Ressler is business as usual, management is boneheaded, and the roster is extremely flawed. Same shit, different year.

Lol. Yeah.

I'm trying to remember the last time I was less excited for the start of a season.
-
John Collins was a good player. I don't see him being a 20/10 player on a really good team. We will find out soon if he was held back or if he simply peaked early.
-
"We like our young guys!"

I'd rather keep Cap for now if no meaningful front court player is coming in.
-
I'm not saying that OO can't start, but if he starts and Cap is gone the Hawks will need better big men coming off the bench.
-
McGee is not worthwhile at this point and Bruno is a 10th man kind of player at best right now. OO is very foul prone and neither of those guys are up to having a big role.
-
The Hawks will get destroyed on the boards starting both Bey and Hunter.

Lots of smoke tends to give me a headache. It must explain why I've had a headache on and off for a few weeks.

I don't see how this team can be much better than last year. I think I predicted 38 wins with the current roster. If coaching is good enough they might make it to mid 40's. Which is still not something to get excited about.
