  1. lol, so I'm late to the game on this one and it's obviously a funny topic, but I have to throw a log, so to speak, on this fire. I've never had the full on cleansing, but I've had probably the next best thing. I picked up one of those mount to your existing toilet bidet setups and Oh Baby!, this is how we were meant to live. All this technology and feeling like we run the planet and we're still essentially wiping with leaves? Barbaric I say! If you got poo on your face, would you just swipe it away with a tissue? No! Then why treat your booty like a 2nd class citizen? hehe. So anyway, back to the primary topic here. With one of these setups, the water pressure can get pretty crazy if you crank it up. If you do this enough times, you will eventually hit the mark just right and give yourself a bit of a flushing and while the first time is a bit shocking, you'll quickly realize that it's pretty awesome, especially after a night of beer and hot wings. After that you know to just relax a little, line things up and badoosh, mini-cleanse any time you need it.

    YMMV! :)

  2. I just don't care for the Kinect features so I'd rather save the $100. If it worked a little bit better, I would spring for it. Every review I've read has said it works but not all the time. The graphics are going to be so similar that it doesn't matter as far as that aspect. I already have a PlayStation plus account that came free with 2k13 that has a few more months on it. They are both good consoles though.

I picked up an Xb1 and kinect 2 is significantly improved over the original. Basically, it has no input lag now or if there is, it's so minor that you can't really tell. It's also able to pick up fine movements like hands/fingers. There isn't much for it yet beyond the voice controls and xbox fitness (which is very slick), but compared to the original it's much improved and since it's a mandatory add-on, we should see some real development for it now.

with that said, right now, both consoles suck. I wouldn't put any effort into trying to get one right now because any game that you can get on ps4/xb1 and ps3/360 will be better on the older consoles. The graphics might not be quite as slick, but gameplay is what matters and the new consoles just don't have the gameplay. Hell, in a lot of cases they don't have the graphics either, but the gameplay and options are consistently lacking on the new games compared to the old.

  3. It's one of those shows that I watch when I come across it, but I rarely make it a point to see it. I think it's cringe inducing hilarity. I agree though, no way Kenny Powers stays rental car model dad for long. The chrome nuts will be back on the stolen truck before long!

  4. Now that's shocking to me since you've been the hardcore PC gamer guy all these years and I've been the console guy and now I get the gaming PC and you go the console route.

I've had 360's since they were released. I currently have 3 of them that I use primarily as set top boxes for U-verse. I play games on them when I find a game a like, but I mostly play on PC. I'm interested in the XB1 more for the media/tv stuff and to see how it integrates with all my other gadgets (windows 8, surface, Windows phone 8, etc), but the games are a nice bonus! :)

  5. That is what all the controversy is about, right? You have to be connected to the internet daily or hourly depending on what you are playing...you can't use, sell or buy used games...price is $100 higher than PS4...it is deliberately not backwards compatible....etc.

I haven't had a console since the Wii but I will probably pick up a PS4 at some point down the line since it will be cheaper than a gaming computer, cheaper than the XBox and not so restricted as the XBox. That is, if I ever get the time to do any real gaming.

The XB1 was originally going to require a 24 hour check-in to verify game licenses. Every game was automatically installed to the hard drive and never needed the disc to be inserted again. YOu could digitally share your games with friends and they would always be available to you in the cloud.

Today, due to the mindless mob, microsoft announced that they're dropping the 24 hour check-in, but they're also dropping the mandatory installs and the ability to digitally share your games with friends. You can still purchase games online and get some of those features, but disc based games work like they always have, ie. they have not evolved at all.

FWIW, you were always able to buy and sell games, but there was a license transfer process. Now it's back like it always has been, no evolution there.

  6. This show has gotten so good that I'm considering becoming a part-time comic book nerd just so I can find out what might happen next!

I've read all 94 issues up to this point and I'd just stick to the show if I were you. You're just going to ruin it for yourself. I'd almost say read up to the point that they get to that building you saw at the end of the S2 finale and stop, because they could really ruin things for you from there on out. The crazy thing is that's probably 25 issues worth of reading there, but take it from me, one can read through 94 issues of a comic in a VERY short amount of time when they're all sitting there in front of you Posted Image
  7. I dont know how Microsoft plans to excel (no pun intended) with this product as I don't see how it could possibly do anything but take away from productivity. How do they plan to hit the corporate market with this?

Why do you think it will take away from productivity? The entire concept of the Metro UI is to give you quick access to the information that you use the most. Once apps are built to take advantage of that, the metro UI should be a huge time saver as there will be less of a need to constantly shuffle your open apps to see what's new. Even without that it shouldn't cost any additional time.
  8. Guess I should have said that I read that Dale was still alive at this point (where the show is) in the comics. Is that accurate? And yeah that's a good point, they couldn't have Carl kill an adult on TV. They're saying that between the thing with the walker and now killing the zombie Shane that this is his growing up moment and that we should expect a lot of conflict between he and Rick next season as Carl grows into his own, which wouldn't surprise me since he's kind of a brat.

Definitely 1 of my favorite shows on TV and 1 I look forward to every week. Gonna be sad when the season finale hits this next week and we'll have to go 6 months or whatever without the show.

    ah!

right, at this point in the comics Dale is still around. He lasted for quite a while, even lost a leg and still kept on kicking along. I can only imagine they killed him because 1. the actor had a better role lined up or 2. They never figured they'd surivive as a show long enough to get to where he bites it (weee!) in the comic. Carl's turn in the comics get pretty crazy. Shooting Shane is definitely not has darkest moment.

  9. It looked like it might be an interesting movie, although I was really annoyed with the whole "You're John Carter of Earth" line from the previews, which made me feel like we're kind of full of ourselves as if there would be a situation where a human from Earth would be such a fascinating thing. That may have made total sense where it fits in the movie but it felt a bit arrogant to me in the trailer. It did surprise me how bad it bombed at the box office and I definitely plan on seeing it, probably this coming weekend.

I don't even recall that from the movie, but in the context of the story he is a fairly fascinating thing to them as he can do things they can't. The commercials give it no context and really only make the movie look like Conan the Barbarian in space, which is disappointing. I loved the story and would love to see more of it on the screen. It's getting decent word of mouth so maybe it will keep showing strong. I'd definitely recommend seeing it though.
  10. Speaking of the walking dead, bout time you posted again!

I can't speak for everyone but I didn't think that most comic book nerds were also sports junkies. I have heard that there is a major difference with comic and tv show where in the tv show

Dale is killed but he's still alive in the comics and serves as Rick's counter balance.

hehe, I lurk frequently! Posted Image

    actually

Dale has been gone in the comics for a while now too and he wasn't so much at odds with everyone in the comics as he was in the show. Rick filled that role in the comics more than anyone, but he's still doing that in the show too. He was the "we have to keep our humanity" guy. Not that it will spoil anything for you at this point, but in the comics Shane died before they got to the farm and it was carl that killed him, because he saw that Shane was becoming a problem for his mom and dad. It was a big part of the comic as it showed how he was changing. They pussed out in the show, can't have a kid kill and adult... so they waited until he was a zombie to have carl do it. In the book after rick found out, he went back to where Carl had shot Shane and finished him off. Heavy stuff, nerfed for TV

still a great show though, one of the few I bother recording these days. There should be some very good stuff coming up next season.

  11. Loved this movie, one of my favorites in the last few years. Probably the least effective advertising campaign I can remember for a movie though. I had no previous knowledge of the story and had no real interest in seeing the movie, but the story was pretty darned good, as was the acting and FX. If the marketing had focused a little more on the actual story, I think it would have done better in its opening weekend. I'd definitely recommend seeing it though. As I understand it, they changed the name at the last minute from John Carter of Mars to just John Carter, which only increases the weight of my complaint.

  12. favorite swilling beer: miller lite

    favorite cheap beer: guinness

    Current overall favorite: Nostradamus

Other favorites in the cooler: Duvel, Chimay, Alagash Tripel, St. Bernardus Tripel

Also just had a friend from Virginia bring down some Dog Fish head 120 minute IPA and it was good, very unique. It ranges somewhere between 18-25%, but is surprisingly smooth.

  13. If you want a blu-ray player, get a blu-ray player. You'll be able to find full featured blu-ray players for $100 this holiday season and you won't run the risk of wearing out your $300 blu-ray player (ps3) playing movies.

If you want a game console, I'd still recommend the 360 over the ps3. It has more games, better online service, more features and in the case of games that are made for both, they are consistently better on the 360. You will have no reliability issues with a newer 360.

  14. Most antivirus programs aren't going to do anything for you for malware/spyware/adware etc. If you've got popups or annoying things like that, it's one of the previously mentioned problems, not a virus. The best program at the moment for this is Malwarebytes. You can get it at www.malwarebytes.org and it's free. It only works on demand.

    For free a/v, google AVG.

  15. As a professional gamer, i'll throw my opinion in.

First off, to stay on topic.

Elite is now $299, Arcade is $199. The elite has a 120gb HD, the arcade has built in memory, I think 512mb. Both now have HDMI ports. You may also be able to find a Pro model which has a 60gb HD for $249, while supplies last.

For the most part, performance wise, the systems are identical.

xbox live is still vastly superior to PSN and that will not change any time soon, but it costs ($50 advertised you can find 12month cards for $30-35 if you look). Even if you aren't an online gamer, you can't discount what Xbox live offers. It's not just an online gaming platform anymore. Netflix integration, movie/TV rental services, twitter, last.fm, facebook, media center integration, etc. They are expanding XBox live at a fantastic rate.

Both consoles have exclusive titles, but most games come out on both systems, so you're not going to lose much either way.

There is a vast separation on the PS3 side between gamers and blu-ray buyers. For gamers, the blu-ray capabilities of the PS3 aren't a big seller. For blu-ray fans, the gaming capabilities of the ps3 aren't a selling point. This is why while the ps3 only lags behind the 360 by a few million units world wide, cross platform games consistently sell 2x (or more) as many units on the 360 as they do on the ps3. Most people buying PS3's are buying them for movies over games. This doesn't mean much overall, but you're certainly going to have a larger pool of potential people to play against on the 360.

There is no denying the 360's past reliability issues, but the last two revisions of the 360 have nearly eliminated these problems. Comparing the units that have been released over the last year you'd find that the 360 is on par with or only slightly behind the ps3. If you're buying new, the reliability issue simply isn't an issue anymore. If you search around you can find out how to tell if the unit you are considering is one of the latest revisions (jasper I think) or the previous revisions (falcon). Also keep in mind that despite these original problems the 360 is the best selling next-gen (now current gen) console on the market. That says a lot for the platform as a whole.

In the end it really comes down to how much you value blu-ray. If you plan to watch a lot of blu-ray movies and have all the other things you need to take advantage of them (good TV, etc), then that might matter to you. I'm a huge movie buff, but blu-ray simply holds no magic for me. I will not deny that I get my HD movie fix in other *ahem* ways, but I can't ever see myself owning a blu-ray player or paying the premium for blu-ray movies over regular DVD's. If that day ever comes, I doubt I would get a ps3 simply because blu-ray players are so cheap now. It's not going to be long before you're going to be able to get a feature complete BD player for $99.
