  1. Quote: understand it has nothing to do with Nascar but it's still brilliant branding. it was recently. M&Ms or Reese's jackets. M&M along with Dupont was the most popular.
  2. Quote: I knew Nascar had done a great job marketing when I saw black guys at the mall wearing NASCAR jackets. I hope this wasn't recent. Those things where hot around 1998, unless they are making a comeback. Trust me when I tell you it's not even about Nascar. Back then it was about something being new and hot. They were too pricey for most people and the colors those jackets came in made you stand out from the crowd. Nobody gave a f*ck about Nascar. I used to watch pretty much every sport when I was a little kid, even Nascar. I was a fan of Rusty Wallace when he was in the black and gold car.
  3. Quote: actually i would take the fact that we havent signed any other points as one of two things: 1- they're not out for the season and no reason to get another one if we have a 3 1/2 already. 2- they're trying to get a servicable one, but they don't grow on trees and it may be taking awhile to find one via trade or free agency..... 3- We're tanking.
  4. This blows. I hope he doesn't f&*k the mission.
  5. My attitude towards the Hawks at this point can be best described as listless. Last night turned a corner for me. I am not only happy to see them tanking, I hope neither BK or Woody is fired for the rest of the season. We've got a mojo going and I don't want to mess it up. I say go for the draft pick. If we are only this bad because of injuries then if why not tank. If we luckout and lose the pick to Phoenix, well be good if healthy next season anyway. We can't possibly make it to the playoffs. Why not increase our chances of not giving the pick away. It's all about strategy baby.
  6. Quote: First correction: rebounding is more than athleticism... Ask Dennis Rodman. I know what rebounding is about. We were not talking about rebounding in general we were talking about Josh Smith's rebounding in his rookie season which was about athelticism. I could even ask Dennis Rodman and I'm sure he'd say the same. Quote: Sure, there are some cases of late bloomers in basketball, but that's far from the norm in terms of superstar. Maybe it's not the norm but you never know. You have to see the skills even if the production isn't evident. Let's compare his second season so far to that of everyone's favorite Atlanta Hawk, Joe Johnson. Joe Johnson Year Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG 02-03 PHO 82 34 27.5 .397 .366 .774 0.7 2.5 3.2 2.6 0.8 0.2 1.32 1.70 9.8 Mavin Williams Year Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG 06-07 ATL 13 12 32.8 .417 .250 .797 1.5 2.8 4.2 1.3 0.8 0.5 2.62 3.80 13.3 Marvin is arguably better than Joe Johnson and the same points in their career. He also compares well to Kobe Bryant. It's the things I see in his game that make me believe he is going to be good. No, he doesn't do it consistently, but he does it. When he becomes consistent is when he'll be dangerous just like Josh Smith did it consistently before his injury. He has the skills whether you see it or not. Quote: Moreover, until Marvin actually shows something consistent in games that Count, don't talk about him as if he's a late bloomer and I won't talk about him as if he's a bust. I can agree to this deal. I hope you're the type of person that keeps his word.
  7. Quote: I hear that Salim is having a camp this summer to teach ball handling and pg play to youngsters. Why not? If TO can write a children's book on sharing Salim can have a camp. Chilz can have a camp on jump shooting, Speedy can teach young players how to take care of their body. etc. etc.
  8. I've never coached so I'll have to sit this one out, but someone needs to go and seriously find out if Woody has any idea what he's talking about. We need someone to step up to the plate and be a spy.
  9. Coach's Clinic Series Hawks Head Coach Mike Woodson hosts a series of clinics offered to youth basketball coaches from around the city. Coach Woodson will cover areas such as how to run an offense, how to run a defense and overall coaching tips while dealing with young players throughout the series. Participants will receive breakfast, a premium item, the experience of participating in the clinic with Coach Woodson on the Hawks practice court, as well as a game ticket to an upcoming Hawks game. The next Coach's Clinic will be held on January 13. To participate, please contact Carrie Neville at (404) 878-3936 or carrie.neville@atlantaspirit.com. I'm not going to say anything.
  10. Quote: Even as a Rookie, Smoove showed that at the least he could block shots and get up for rebounds and dunk. This is part of my point. All of these things were because of his athleticism. It's not like he was rebounding well because of his strength or great positioning. It was because he can jump out of the building which in turn made what he had to offer obvious. Great players usually don't take years to show what they can do but sometimes do. Someone posted an article in the other forum about Dirk and Steve Nash on the Dallas squad in 99. It basically said they suck. It's a good thing noone jumped the gun on those guys. Marvin has shown the occassional ability to do things. He has great form on his shots, they just don't fall. He has good ballhandling he just doesn't quite know how to use that other than to bull into the other player. I find it hard to believe you can watch Marvin during a game and not see his skills. I hated his pick as well as Shelden and Solo, but I watch them and see things that lead me to believe they will get better. I think your hatred for Marvin is making you blind. BTW I watched Kobe his first year and the only thing about him that made people think he would be good was he was 6 foot 6 and tried to do everything just like Michael Jordan, thus the name Showboat. The problem was he was a ballhog and was jacking up airballs like there was no tomorrow. As far as KG. He's a freak in the mold of Lebron. What can I say about that.
  11. Yes you are jumping the gun. Most players take 3 years to shine. Josh Smith was having his breakout season in year 3. Marvin has been back a short while, and is only in his second year, and is still somewhat injured. I know Marvin hasn't put it together yet but I also know I have seen flashes of what he can do and when he does put it together and I think most of us will be happy we got him. Marvin currently has no obvious advantage over other players so we have to wait for him to learn the NBA game. What I mean by that is Josh Smith has an athletic advantage over even NBA players so his contributions were seen almost immediately. Josh Childress is a highly intelligent player and it showed early. Marvin doesn't have these obvious things. His advantages are more sublte and need more time become obvious.
  12. Quote: We have no chance of going the required 33-19 to make the playoffs without our top defender We have to go 33-19 I didn't realize that. I want this team to be good also but fudge it. As much as I hate to watch the Hawks lose I think I just slipped and fell under the tank. I'll be riding the wheels like a cartoon.
