What PnP games are you playing? I've gotten some friends to play a few games recently. We did some shadowrun and then switched to d&d3.5. I used to play all the time years ago. It was really fun. I love how they've integrated miniatures and made them "kinda" mandatory. I got full size maps for the module we were playing, it was pretty fun. The mini's make it more interactive for noobs.

here's the wiki on DKP:

DKP

in WoW when people run these raid instances, you are usually on voice communication so you can talk. Well, in this video the lead guy and presumably the guild leader, is directing everyone on what to do. Well at some point, someone screws up and draws some monsters into the battle that they could and should have avoided and the dude flips out and starts screaming at them. The fact that he's screaming at this is only partly funny. The animation that someone created to go along with it is what makes it really funny, at least to me.

Here's the youtube:

50 dkp minus!

Thanks. I strongly suspect that would be a lot funnier if I had ever played the game. All I was thinking while listening was "What an #$*#*&#$. Why would anyone play with this #$&#?"

I did D&D, Shadowrun, Rifts, etc. years ago. Had some good times with that.

yes it would definitely be funnier if you played and understood what he was saying. I agree that the guy is a tard. but at the same time, having played and raided and been wiped because someone did something stupid, despite being told what not to do, I can understand his rage. haha.

It was the pre-mistake condescending tone that would have made me want to screw him over just to watch him explode.

D&D 3.5.. The only systems I've ever played/run are 3.0 and 3.5. I too like the miniatures, especially since it's easy to get a bunch of the prepainted ones cheaply (ebay and such). you interested in playing sometime? I am starting a pickup game sometime soon, since my regular group has varied schedules and can't all be there very frequently. The idea is that anyone can play, and continuity between sessions is not required. The premise would be that all the players are members of some sort of larger adventuring guild, that dispenses plot hooks readily, and adventures would typically be 1 session long. smile.gif

And I just nerded out everyone else who happened along this thread...

I wanted to comment on this a bit.. I don't think the miniatures issue is a question of noobs vs experienced players so much, it's just a nod to the reality that it's a roleplaying game but also a tactical combat game! At my gaming table, I have players that revel in both and some that only really shine in one or the other.

yah we bought like...300 off ebay. I might be down for playing sometime. The only reason we don't play more frequently is because it's hard to get everyone in one place for the length of time needed. I'll let you know though.

The scheduling issue is indeed the bane of my (gaming) existence. It's the reason I'm trying to put a lot of effort into the pickup game format.

oh yah totally. But for someoen who has never played a PnP RPG, sometimes they find it hard to get that mental image of what they are supposed to be doing. I found that the mini's helped those people A LOT. Also some people find the whole imaginary aspect of it hard to swallow and the mini's give it more of a board game feel.

  • 2 weeks later...

A friend of mine recently gave me two trial cd-keys - one offered free play for 14 days, the other offered free play for 10 day - and I was quite excited because I never played WoW before but always wanted to try it. In fact, I've never played a MMORPG before, so this was my first foray into this genre.

So far... the game kind of feels like a chore. And its kinda boring. These quests the townfolk give you seem extremely unimaginative and sometimes tedious. Kill 12 of these monsters and report back. Get me 7 of these unique quest items and 5 of another unique quest item. Fun. And the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired... just walk up to a badguy and click on 1 or 2, and watch your character and monster exchange hits for about 5-10 seconds. Exciting...

The graphics are neat, and the world is definetely big. But does everything else get better later on? I mean, I'm sure it does, but when??
