Observations from Pistons Game

Even though I was in the 300 level seats (got tickets from a friend), you still had a pretty good view of the action.

The Hawks dominated in the first half for two reasons: defense and limited minutes for Bibby

The Hawks folded in the second half for two reasons: lack of defense and big minutes for Bibby (plus they sleptwalked throughout the entire second half)

The Joe Smith to Zaza Pachulia connection was in full effect tonight. Good to see those guys playing off each other well.

Marvin had a good first half, didn't do much afterwards.

Bibby was..well, Bibby. He was abused all night.

In the first half, when Teague actually played and played the traditional PG role, our offense flowed well, was fast, aggressive, and built up the lead. As soon as Bibby came back in, the offense didn't look as sharp, and the pace slowed way down. Teague didnt play again until his token cameo, once the game was decided, with like 2 minutes left in the game.

That switching defense got exposed in the second half (likely because Bibby played so many minutes in the second half). Not surprising, Detroit cut our lead of 29 at one point down to 9 on at least a couple occasions.

Smoove played very well for the most part. Took a couple bad jumpers, didn't rebound all that well, but his passing was superb.

Horford was steady, but didn't rebound that well either. That jumper of his is money.

Outside of Joe attempting a harder jump shot that he had to, he was pretty good and on the money.

The Hawks opened the second half by playing sloppy basketball. We piled up 17 turnovers...it seemed like we had at least that in the second half alone.

We shot 63% from the field tonight? Must have all been in the first half, because we looked like a totally different team in the second half.

Woodson STILL hasnt figured out how to go with what's hot. Craw was so hot in the first half, I figured he would get a steady diet in the second half. That wasn't the case.

Woody still trotted that ALL-BENCH lineup out again for a significant stretch of time (this has GOT to stop happening!) Luckily this time, our bench extended the lead.

Teague was a +14 for the game (tied for best among all players tonight), but after playing well from a non-stat perspectiv'te, he didn't see the floor in the second half until the game was practically over.

Mo Evans...geez, can we get an upgrade already?

And finally, I knew that 29 point lead wouldn't last...too many times we play down to our opponent or sleepwalk out of halftime. If regulation was 5 quarters, we probably would have lost because we didn't stop a damn thing all second half. Regardless of what anyone says, we can't do that in the playoffs and get away with it like we sometimes have so far in the regular season.

Not a whole lot of people out there tonight, and many, many didn't arrive until the second quarter, but for those who came out, it was a good game (moreso the first half, not the second half).

GO HAWKS!

The switching defense can be effective but I agree it hurts us when Bibby is in the game. He often gets a mismatch and the player will either blow by him or post him up.
