TheTruth
I had a TON of fun coming up with this exercise. Even though the season is young, I found some of the below findings pretty interesting. I put a lot of work into this, so.... DO NOT Cheat and DON'T Give Out Hints!!!! Write the name of the player to each question. You may include some reasoning for your answers, but DO NOT include stats, figures or links or other info that would easily give it away. General statements and opinions are acceptable though. The answer can be anyone on our team not named Kirk Hinrich, IVAN, Jerry Stackhouse, Jason Collins, and Donald Sloan (due to lack of PT). Each question has exactly one answer. Players may be used more than once. I will post the answers in a few days once enough people have responded. Here we go! Answers are based on findings as of 4 pm 1/10/2012. 1. I am the only opening day starter that has a higher playoffs Player Efficiency Rating (PER) average than regular season PER. 2. For this season, I have the lowest PER among the opening day starters. 3. Like a Fine Wine: As a reserve that has started many games in the past, my True Shooting % has increased rapidly over the last four years, and if I keep this up, I will post my highest PER ever...even better than the years when I used to be a starter! 4. Despite my rise in FG% this year, my True Shooting % has decreased over last year, and yet I am on track to post the highest PER of my career as a starter. 5. I have the distinction of having the lowest PER on the team (remember the exceptions I listed at the top). 6. As an opening day reserve, my PER this year surpasses two of our opening day starters' current season PER. Plus, it would be the highest I've posted in seven years. 7. I am the only starter that posted a 20+ PER last year that hasn't eclipsed that mark this year. 8. As a big, I am counted on to provide a lot of things our guards just can't/won't do. While posting the lowest True Shooting % of my career this year since my rookie year, my PER has been the highest it's been in 3 years despite playing the fewest minutes of my career in all but my rookie year and one other. 9. Despite an abberation in my 4th year, my PER has steadily declined each year. However, if I keep up my current pace, I will post the highest PER of my career...surpassing my previous high by 25%! 10. I am an opening day starter that has started for multiple years, yet I have never posted a [partial or full] season PER over 20. 11. In my long career, I have never averaged fewer minutes in a season. However, I have only posted a PER higher than this season's PER twice. 12. Wins Shares are an estimate of the number of wins a player has added to his team. Of course, the higher the better. So far this year, I have the highest win share figure on the team. Who am I? Good luck! DO NOT Cheat and DON'T Give Out Hints!!!! Edited January 10, 2012 by TheTruth

TheTruth
Great to see you attempting it Diesel. Try again for # 8 and #11...I did not include Collins or Stackhouse in this exercise (disclaimer in the original post) due to lack of PT...making things like PER much less reliable and meaningful. I will say this task isn't easy...some surprise answers to some of these for sure! I am keeping track of how everyone did...I will let everyone know probably on Thursday how they did. If everyone liked this topic, I might have to re-visit it again at the halfway point of the season.
Brokentree
1. I am the only opening day starter that has a higher playoffs Player Efficiency Rating (PER) average than regular season PER. Jeff Teague 2. For this season, I have the lowest PER among the opening day starters. Al Horford just because everyone else seems to be doing well. 3. Like a Fine Wine: As a reserve that has started many games in the past, my True Shooting % has increased rapidly over the last four years, and if I keep this up, I will post my highest PER ever...even better than the years when I used to be a starter! Tough choice between Vlad and TMac. I'll go with Vlad. 4. Despite my rise in FG% this year, my True Shooting % has decreased over last year, and yet I am on track to post the highest PER of my career as a starter. Marvin Williams since his career per is probably easiest to improve. 5. I have the distinction of having the lowest PER on the team (remember the exceptions I listed at the top). I'd be surprised if it is not Pargo. 6. As an opening day reserve, my PER this year surpasses two of our opening day starters' current season PER. Plus, it would be the highest I've posted in seven years. Another one where it almost has to be either Vlad or TMac, and again I'm going with Vlad. 7. I am the only starter that posted a 20+ PER last year that hasn't eclipsed that mark this year. If I said Al Horford for question number 2 I guess it makes sense to go with him here too. 8. As a big, I am counted on to provide a lot of things our guards just can't/won't do. While posting the lowest True Shooting % of my career this year since my rookie year, my PER has been the highest it's been in 3 years despite playing the fewest minutes of my career in all but my rookie year and one other. This one is tough. I have to go with Marvin. 9. Despite an abberation in my 4th year, my PER has steadily declined each year. However, if I keep up my current pace, I will post the highest PER of my career...surpassing my previous high by 25%! I'm going to go the Vlad again. I'm answering way to many of these with Vlad. 10. I am an opening day starter that has started for multiple years, yet I have never posted a [partial or full] season PER over 20. I want to say this is the easiest question but i'd feel stupid if I was wrong. Marvin. 11. In my long career, I have never averaged fewer minutes in a season. However, I have only posted a PER higher than this season's PER twice. Another tough one. Willie Green is my guess. 12. Wins Shares are an estimate of the number of wins a player has added to his team. Of course, the higher the better. So far this year, I have the highest win share figure on the team. Who am I? Based on the last three games I'd have to say Josh Smith.

TheTruth
Ok, here are the answers. They are included in the quoted original post below: I had a TON of fun coming up with this exercise. Teague - Most of you got this one right. 2. For this season, I have the lowest PER among the opening day starters. Joe Johnson...and outside of Teague, he's far below every other starter. 3. Like a Fine Wine: As a reserve that has started many games in the past, my True Shooting % has increased rapidly over the last four years, and if I keep this up, I will post my highest PER ever...even better than the years when I used to be a starter! This one is purposely tricky. Some of you said T Mac, which is a good guess. However, Vlad used to start back in the day, and he is the only one who satisfies the question. 4. Despite my rise in FG% this year, my True Shooting % has decreased over last year, and yet I am on track to post the highest PER of my career as a starter. Many of you said Josh Smith. If you did, you would be right. 5. I have the distinction of having the lowest PER on the team (remember the exceptions I listed at the top). It's Pargo. Matter of fact, his PER is below 10. He's only a couple points below Willie Green, though. 6. As an opening day reserve, my PER this year surpasses two of our opening day starters' current season PER. Plus, it would be the highest I've posted in seven years. Of those that posted their responses here, only two people got this right. Vlad's PER does surpass Joe and Teague's, but TMac has had higher PER's than this year during his prime years. So T Mac is the answer. 7. I am the only starter that posted a 20+ PER last year that hasn't eclipsed that mark this year. That would be Horford (He had a 19.9). Now he's out for the year I read :( 8. As a big, I am counted on to provide a lot of things our guards just can't/won't do. While posting the lowest True Shooting % of my career this year since my rookie year, my PER has been the highest it's been in 3 years despite playing the fewest minutes of my career in all but my rookie year and one other. This would be Zaza. 9. Despite an abberation in my 4th year, my PER has steadily declined each year. However, if I keep up my current pace, I will post the highest PER of my career...surpassing my previous high by 25%! Marvin! His PER was right at 20 with the previous high of 16 for a season. 10. I am an opening day starter that has started for multiple years, yet I have never posted a [partial or full] season PER over 20. This surprised me the most. The answer is Joe. It stumped more than half of you that responded. 11. In my long career, I have never averaged fewer minutes in a season. However, I have only posted a PER higher than this season's PER twice. Again, most people missed this one. It's Willie Green. Some wanted to venture that it was T Mac, but he has played few minutes before. 12. Wins Shares are an estimate of the number of wins a player has added to his team. Of course, the higher the better. So far this year, I have the highest win share figure on the team. Who am I? Bonehead Josh Smith by a hair. The highest score was 9 out of 12. What did you think of the exercise? Edited January 13, 2012 by TheTruth

TheTruth
I think I was one of the high scores!! Yep. After you corrected two of the initial answers you gave, you earned a 9 out of 12.
Moderators AHF Posted January 13, 2012 Moderators Report Share Posted January 13, 2012 Is Marvin considered to have a full or partial season over a 20 PER because he had one through the seasons first 6 games? As of 9 games in, he is under 20 PER as usual. I guess I misunderstood and didn't think the first 6 games of this season counted as a partial season (I thought that was a reference to the strike shortened season or seasons shortened by injury).
