Intrigueing 2013 draft prospects

For those new to the squawk I have been looking at bigs Atlanta can draft for the last several draft classes. I tend to ignore the lottery guys since Atlanta has no lottery picks and I ignore the Euro guys since I never get see them. I will never hype or post about that I have not seen play.

Last year my man crush was on F. Ezeli as a C and J. Taylor as a wing. Both happen to be Vandy players and the Hawks happened to draft their teamate J. Jenkins. Meamwhile Ezeli is playing significant Center minutes for a winning Warriors team and Taylor is starting, as a rookie, for the Bobcats.

I am not a blow hard who comes on here a month before the draft screaming to take player X b/c they are the next John Stockton.......but I am the blow hard who is on here 6 months before the draft letting you know who I like b/c I watch them with my eyes.

The known:

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Patric-Young-5746/

Shot blocking specialist and known quantity:

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Gorgui-Dieng-6219/

I really like both of the players above and feel both will have long careers in the NBA as role players. When drafting in the 20's that is all I realistically hope for. Anything better then that is gravey for a pick in the 20's.

They are listing Dieng at 6'11''.If true, he will shoot up boards. He was only listed at 6'8'' as a freshman. Now they are saying he has a 7'6'' wingspan as well. He is one of the best natural NCAA shot blockers in recent years. If we end up with 2 first round picks I'd love to use one an athletic center like him.

Neither of these guys will ever average more then 10 ppg but I believe both will have long careers as defensive specialist and both do what I love out of NBA bigs.......that ability to protect the rim and finish at the rim. The NBA now has enough big men floor spacers......we need some big men who do the dirty work.

Dieng could be drafted with the lower of our first round pick and Young could be drafted on the 2nd round, I like both of them, in fact Young was projected to be a first round pick last year.

Anyway for the higher draft pick I would consider

SF: Otto Porter, Alex Poythress, C: Isaiah Austin, Rudy Gobert, J SG: Archie Goodwin, Marcus Smart, PG: M. Carter-Williams, Trey Burke,

Trey Burke...and yes I am a Michigan Fan and this Kid is a floor general, fast and has enormous potential. He maybe player of the year but that will depend how Michigan does in the Big Ten & NCAA tourney..The Hawks have two picks in the 1st round sound the other pick can be used on a Big Man - which this draft seems to project a lot of PF & C coming out in 2013.

Probably wait until after the pre-draft measurements that changes everything for me. Nothing to get excited about in college anyway

You can tell Dieng has tremendously long arms just by looking at him. As a 6'8'' freshman he was shot blocking machine due to his reach. Would be interested to see if he is 6'11'' or 6'9'' now.

I agree, Nbadraft.net has us taken him at 20th pick, it would be awasome to have him on our roster backing Teague, he is averaging 18ppg, 7,5apg, 1,5spg while shooting 55%, 40% from 3 pt line on his sophomore season. Probably I would prefer Michael-Carter Williams due to theorical potential but Burke would be an awesome pick.

Although I like Burke probably our biggest need it at the wings, a SG or SF with size and at C, Otto Porter or Isaiah Austin would be great to have.

On the other hand it's easier to find a bargain at PG at that draft position than in other positions, ie: Lawson, Teague, Parker, Stuckey, Bledsoe, Vasquez, Collison, Holiday.... rather than great Centers or SFs.

To give a more clear example I would not like to repeat past history and take a player lik Earl Clark, James Johnson or Austin Daye ahead of a Holiday, Lawson, Teague type of player, only draft for need if someone of that list is not available.

Player of the year? I'd rather see us package our two first rounders and move up in the draft. I don't know how possible that is though.

Scratch P. Young off my list. He has regressed as a player. He looks like he should be playing football.Whitney has really improved and has gotten stronger. He would be a decent late 1st round pick. He moves his feet well and knows position defense. Should be a capable pick and roll defende for a 7 footer. Can play transition defense and can draw charges vs quicker guards.....not to mention he is a legit shot blocker. He understand the game mentally......wish Ezeli had his BB IQ. He will never be a top 10 NBA center but he will have a long NBA career. Good value for a pick in the 20s.One matchup to watch tonight is in the UNC - NC State where Macadoo and CJ Leslie will lock horns.........2 solid 6'9'' guys, with long wing spans according to the eye test, who are good athletes. Both intrigue me and could be around when we pick.

Trey Burke looked really shaky against Ohio State a couple of weeks ago. There is not a single player in this draft worth zeroing in on. That is why I am still waiting until after the draft combine.

I see Ben McLemore as the 1st pick in the draft as right now.......I ignore talking about the lottery guys since we are not picking there though. That kid will be a 7 time allstar for sure......at least. Edited by coachx

I'm hoping we could probably get a good wing player. Maybe Otto Porter or Tony Mitchell. Franklin from San Diego State would give us a scorer at SG. We can't survive playing 2 PGs or Korver or Jenkins who can't create off the dribble.

Tony Mitchell is not a wing player he is a tweener. Otto Porter would be a great value and a great fit.

We should take BPA and I think we could have a shot at James McDoo, Trey Burke, Otto Porter, Archie Goodwin, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Steven Adams or Isaiah Austin. I would love to have any of them.

I really like the way that NC State team plays.

I like CJ Leslie...........my only concern is his thin build. He looks to have a great wingspan and is an excellent athlete. If he can add a more consistent perimeter shot he would be in the lottery.

Macadoo's HS school coach is right. He just wants to be another guy and fit in with a team.......even though he is the most physically talented player on that UNC team. Maybe he grows out of it. I see him as a Marvin Williams type.......great physical talent but with the mindset of a role player. Still that is not a bad thing when picking in the 20's but not what you want in a lottery pick.

I see Macadoo's stock slipping and Leslie's stock rising. Leslie has no fear.......in fact sometimes Leslie may be guilty of trying to do too much while Macadoo is guilty of trying to do too little.

A lot of good SG / SF out there who will slip to the teens: Porter, Leslie,, McCollum, Robinson III, KCP, Poytheris, McAdoo, Mitchell,Saric, etc.McAdoo, Mitchell, and Saris are probably more of PFs with the ability tomplay some SFthough........the others are real SG / SF wings. I would like to see us snag one of these guys and the take either Deing or Whitney as a center prospect.

McDoo, Mitchell and Leslie are tweeners and more suited for PF.

Other prospect that really intrigues me is Goodwin, I think he can be a really good SG. I would like to pick two of that list, Porter and Goodwin hopefully and then trade up with our 2 2nd rounders to draft Whithey or Dieng, they are more likely to be at 25-30th pick. If Goodwin is gone, I probably would take a chance at Burke before Caldwell Pope or McCollum.
