Moderators lethalweapon3 Posted July 1, 2015 Moderators Report Share Posted July 1, 2015 In the context of a guy who was underpaid and gave the Hawks consecutive All-Star seasons and led the team during it's most successful season ever, the overpaying isn't so bad. The mystery would then become what does Al Horford get offered in an even zanier 2016 free agency? Looks like it comes down to Stability versus Extra Take Home Pay in Sap's lap. Are a few extra bucks going to be worth starting fresh with a young roster and a new coach at age 30? We're going to find out soon. ~lw3
HawkItus
WRONG how is that wrong? There was nothing stopping the ASG from spending after Joe signed his contract. Most good teams have multiple max guys. We had one.
IheartVolt
That is a big mistake.. Toxic contract.. Not a max player period
Deeman
Meh Paul's game should age well, he's only 30.
SuperSavvyNation
In today's NBA, I would rather play my backcourt players the big bucks. Paul is good, but I have serious concerns about tying the team financially to a player who is not an elite offensive player, especially in the playoffs. JETSET
how is that wrong? There was nothing stopping the ASG from spending after Joe signed his contract. Most good teams have multiple max guys. We had one. We have been over the cap while being owned by the ASG. Ressler spoke of his willingness to go over the cap while staying under the luxury tax which is the same situation. There is also a little thing called the salary cap. Joe's contract was bad because it limited our ability to bring in other star players because he was taking up a majority of the cap space. This isn't baseball where teams can spend any amount they want.

Guest
The ASG was never interested in exceeding the cap at all. They wanted to be one of the owners that got some of the luxury tax penalty money that went to team under the cap.

atljonesbro
This is the worst thing the Hawks can do. This is AWFUL! This team isn't going anywhere with a contract like that on an older player like him

If Sap signs this deal, We only have like 7 mil in cap space. We can't sign DMC regardless.
