They had Basketball IQ and played college basketball. It seems like these HS or 1 and done prospects don't have the BBIQ to play late into their careers

Kobe, Lebron, Moses, Garnett,  that's four of the best ever that never played one day of college ball. A couple of others were Jermaine O'Neil and Daryl Dawkins ( 1st ever HS player picked in the 1st round ). There is only so many rules for good heath and a long NBA career, lucky genes, lucky in landing, and what/who you land on, good eating habits, and a good workout ethic.

College ball can help you with your good habits; but there is no guarantee of that one way or the other.

Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett disagree.

For me to judge this man based off the ways other franchises handled him would be asinine. Kobe and Dwight wasn't a good fit. If memory serves me correct, Kobe had a problem playing with another big by the name of Shaq. The same can be said about Harden. Seems to me Dwight and ISO heavy ball players don't mix. And if you think he won't fit into Bud's system, then you haven't watched Hawks basketball.

Dwight never really wanted to be there either. He was clearly disinterested in Houston last year also.

It's just such a mixed bag. The man has talent, but he could stop giving a crap at anytime.

At the end of the day, the upside of DH is higher than Horford but the downside is much lower.  It's a "refreshing" move IMO for a franchise that needed some change...

TBH, I'm more worried about Dennis replacing Teague than Dwight / Horford

Horford was probably playing his best ball when he got hurt the 2nd time. It's been a slow decline since he came back from that.

The Horford era had peaked.  I mean, maybe the trio would have worked, but if Horford or Sap was going to go, the Hawks probably ended up with the best option.

KG was kind of dumb. He was a great player, but not overly smart.

Dwight will continue to Rebound, Dunk, and Block shots well into his mid 30s. Two things to watch is how well he keeps playing off the pick and roll, and how he runs the floor getting back on D and offense. He does not need to be as athletically explosive as the three guys you compared him to; but he does need to keep his legs under him. Conditioning is going to be key for him as he gets older.

Will he? He's nowhere near the shot blocker he was a few years ago. He isn't as good of a defender either.

Do you think he is worse than Al guarding and blocking out centers? I don't. He may not be the NBA Defensive Player of the Year anymore; but he still blocks out better than Al all day long. Blocks per 36 is 1.7 for Al, 1.8 for Howard. The real difference is the dirty work on the glass. Horford is a SF compared to what Howard is when grabbing boards.

As per Zach Lowe, ESPN expert, now that the Hawks desperate attempt to retain the traitor

who went to Boston, the Atlanta Hawks are now ripe for a tank job.

All hope for them left with the Celtics signing and their only chance that they have now is to tank.

Gee whiz!  All the optimism we had gone, like a balloon that suddenly loses all it's air.  Woosh!

Dwight will have to improve his PnR defense.

I agree and in short everyone needs to improve. Bud will coach up all our players and we do play team defense. With Howard in the paint, our perimeter defenders can finally make a player feed the way we want him to. Instead of fearing if the player gets past him; we can take away his strongest move and make him go the other way! I look for our defense to be almost smothering this season.

He went to Houston to win Championships and play with the next closest thing to Kobe Bryant. Instead he got to play with the next closest thing to Gilbert Arenas and they went to one Conference Final.

If Houston could have came up with a All Star PG, the Rockets could have been a different team. Instead they focused their offense on Harden and they added more wing players. Dwight has never really had a lot of help at the PG or PF position. Lets see what he does with that.

Zach Lowe will be eating his words. We have been picked to miss the playoffs by someone for the past nine seasons, and every year that someone is wrong.

1st. 2nd, or 3rd in the East. We peak at the right time and go to our 2nd Conference Finals in three years!

Very True, he didn't....but that was smart on his part to wait and see what kind of noise the Hawks would make without him, and they did just that. So much noise to the point where he wanted to come home. The Hawks came out the winner overall. Now we get the mature, rebounding and defensive superstar we needed at the right time and at a fair price. Imagine if Horford walked and we had no Dwight.

The reason guys like Jordan, Malone, Duncan, Allen played so well in their mid to late 30's  is because thet didn't just rely on their athletic to carry them.

Dwight is closer Amare, Shawn Kemp and Nique. Too much of an incomplete game.

Did you just insinuate that the Hall of Famer Dominque Wilkins had a "incomplete game" ?  Shawn and Amare wish they had the type of game Wilkins had.

well then you aren't paying attention.  AL was a solid guy...not flashy...but effective.  Now we have Dwight.  Much better athleticism (if healthy) but nowhere near as skilled in the game of basketball.

Book this: D12 will put up 20/13 next year as a Hawk while the lil' bitch will put up 15/8 for the Selltix...

As far as Dwight's defense, I think he'll be improved on our team just due to the fact that he'll be more involved in offense. Bigs always seem to dial in more effort on defense when they're involved on the offensive in. It's just the way it goes really.

And play better defense too, all while energizing the crowd. Something Whorefart never was able to do.
