Well at least people totally making stuff up are now bothering to mention Josh Smith.

http://allaboutknicks.sportsblog.com/posts/23599228/nba-rumor--josh-smith-to-the-knicks-.html

"NBA Rumor: Josh Smith to the Knicks?" says a Knicks fan-slash-basketblogger, inquisitively. Of course, said blog ("All About the Knicks?") comes with no links to media outlets. And it follows "NBA Rumor: Metta World Peace to the Knicks?" and "NBA Rumor: Knicks To Trade for Jahlil Okafor." Hard to blame some kid who grew up reading Frank Isola, though.

Meanwhile, in today's News You Can't Use...

Saturday was another splendid Heritage Day up in bucolic North Adams, Michigan, a village of less than 500 folks just outside of Hillsdale. The highlight of every Heritage Day, naturally, is the long-anticipated annual Outhouse Race.

"Josh Smith" was on the winning Outhouse team... the Boston Celtics! It's downright poetic!

The big draw is the town’s famous Outhouse Race that included more teams this year.
Beach said the longtime race has been through at least three outhouses, one that was retired to his barn.
“I remember doing the race sometime in the mid 1970s, but my team got second place,” Beach said. The Lions Club had the original outhouse with the words ‘Royal Flush’ painted on the outside. The one used now is called Passing Gas Express II, and has been around for more than five years.
Winning this year’s races was the Boston Celtics, with a time of 15.89, a new record...
A few mishaps with the door not latching and when the holding stick broke caused a few delays. The race ended in a downpour with competitors and spectators soaked. With Jake Hart as team captain, others making up the winning team included Stone Arnold, Josh Smith, Logan Dewey and Logan Longman.

So... "Rumor: Josh Smith to the Celtics???" Let's go, all you content creators out there!

He should be playing center for someone.   If I was the Knicks I'd hire him to backup Noah.

And tell him that three pointers are strictly off limits.  Also, no arguing with the refs or the coaches.

In today's News You Can't Use... Over the weekend, "Josh Smith" was seized... by the National Guard?!?

Incoming LSU infielder Josh Smith woke up Saturday morning to his father telling him they needed to prepare for a flood.

About 10 hours later, he needed to leave his home in a boat being operated by the National Guard.

Smith, a highly-regarded infielder from Catholic High, said the water near his Central [City in East Baton Rouge Parish] home was in the streets when his father woke him up and told him to get ready to move furniture.

The National Guard arrived by about 6 p.m. to take Smith, his father and his dog out of the house. The rescue had a surreal feeling to Smith.

“It was unreal, it was like a movie,” Smith said. “The stuff you saw on the news during Katrina, you thought it would never happen to you.”

After staying a couple nights with family friends out near the University Club in Baton Rouge, Smith and his family were back at their house Monday.

As he and his family dealt with the aftermath of the flooding — ripping up wood floors and throwing out soiled furniture — he still considered himself lucky compared to what some others had to go through.

“We got blessed,” Smith said. “We probably only got a little under a foot of water at our house and some people are having it a lot worse than us.”

Hearts out to our Hawks fans over in The Pelican State!

In today's News You Can't Use... "Josh Smith" is headed to Rio! And you thought you'd never see a Josh Smith going for the Gold. USA! USA! USA! These Colors Don't Run!

James Stuck and John Kremer traveled similar roads to the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Paralympic Games. Their comparable journeys include the war on terror, a first-hand meeting with land mines, leg amputations and overnight stays in a German hospital.

The next avenue they went down was the road to recovery. Now they are a combination that passes and sets for the U.S. men’s sitting volleyball team, which has five military veterans on the 12-man roster.

Dan Regan, Jese Schag and Josh Smith [#16] also served in the military. The injuries of these three were non-service related. Stuck said the presence of veterans in the Games is inevitable, though.

“You’re starting to see more and more veterans participate in disabled sports because so many of them are coming back from two wars fought overseas, and it’s making it tougher to make the Paralympics,” said Stuck, a setter on the sitting volleyball team the last six years. “So making the team is an honor.”

(snip)

Smith, a middle hitter who comes from a family of military members, served in the Marines from 2005-15 and reached staff sergeant (E-6) in rank. He actually wanted to join the Army, but said the recruiter “no-showed” on him twice, so he walked down the hall of his high school and met a Marines recruiter. He deployed to Iraq from October 2008 to May 2009.

(snip)

“Being in the military comes up in joking, but there’s definitely a special bond because it is Team USA,” Kremer said. “We’re all there competing for each other and for our country. Everybody feels that passion to compete for Team USA”

  • Josh served in the Marine Corp from 2005-2015, serving a tour of duty in Fallujah, Iraq from 2008-09.
  • Josh’s right leg was amputated in 2013 following a firearms accident during which a 12-gauge shotgun round hit his leg around the ankle, severing his Achilles tendon, multiple arteries and destroying tissue and ligaments. After doctors gave him a 5 percent chance of full recovery, he decided to have the affected area removed.

Best wishes, Josh! And, Pro tip: Bring lots of bottled water!

In today's News You Can't Use, "Josh Smith" plays guitar! It sounds so sweet and clear...

57b4d7a5d93ca.image.jpg?resize=600%2C430

No, 90 percent of the planet's "Josh Smith"s do not hail from Tennessee. It just seems that way. This particular "Josh Smith" is the frontman for "Handsome and the Humbles." I'll let you be the judge about how apropos that band name is (he's not the Waylon or Bravos fan, he's the bandana-rocking dude on the far left). But I'll just assume the name "Hootie" was already taken and move on.

Right on up Route 411 in Maryville, "Josh Smith" and H&H are featured as part of the local newspaper's Summer Virtual Concert Series. They'll be performing this weekend with Whiskey Myers (because of course they are) at the Shed Smokehouse and Juke Joint (right next door to the Smoky Mountain Harley Davidson, because of course it is).

http://www.thedailytimes.com/entertainment/of-faith-and-mercy-both-friendship-and-songs-are-genuine/article_6c7a1d0d-e925-503b-89e5-9fdb654abccf.html

Quote

Back in the press room, the band nails the final take, the guys hanging back while [Josh] Smith strums through the opening chords, accompanied only by Brisson’s brush drumming at first. When the song shifts gears, Smith turns, mouth open, bent over, stomping, spinning in a semi-circle to lock onto everyone in the band.

He’s present. He’s in the moment. If this is as good as it gets, so be it; he hopes there will be more and would very much like to give up his job as a physical therapist to play music full time, but worrying about whether that becomes a reality isn’t something he allows to consume him, he says.

“One of the things I have to do is not get too concerned with that and just enjoy playing music with my friends,” he says. “I enjoy playing, because it’s special to spend time with your friends, and it’s special to make something. Whether it becomes something you can do for a living, I have to tell myself — ‘Enjoy this; it’s good.’ Even though my songs are sad as hell.”

In other "news:" "Josh Smith" is whipping up ta$ty dishes, at a brasserie in the Aria casino. What happens in Vegas...

http://lasvegasweekly.com/dining/2016/aug/17/bardots-summer-in-provence-menu-is-not-to-be-misse/

Quote

It’s easy to overdo it at Bardot Brasserie. Chef Josh Smith and his team provide so many delicious options, ordering too much is more probability than possibility.

The Aria hot spot’s first tasting menu, a mood-capturing meal known as Summer in Provence ($65 plus $35 for beverage pairings, available through September), treats diners to a four-course excursion through one of France’s culinary capitals. “The real idea here was just to lighten up a heavy, rich, French menu for summer and offer it in this neat little package,” Smith says.

Provence is heavily influenced by Mediterranean cuisine, so it also features tastes of Italy, Spain and Greece. “Lots of herbs, lots of citrus, lots of vegetables.” Smith says. “It matches the season.”

Meanwhile, across the pond, "Josh Smith" got himself an A, in "Maths". It's the New "Math." Congrats on making the grade, "Josh"!

Quote

Josh Smith, 18, achieved an A in Maths, B in Further Maths and B in Chemistry. He is hoping to go Greenwich to study Maths.

Josh said: “I am over the moon – these are better than I thought I could get. They are absolutely fantastic. I am the first person in my family to go to university – my family have told me they are really proud.”

(c) A news reporter in, you guessed it, Tennessee, who interviewed NASCAR legend Richard Petty in Bristol yesterday.

(d) Recently named to the all-championship-tournament team in Illinois, playing for a co-ed slow-pitch softball team named... "I'd Hit It."

(e) Captain of the Aston Rowan Cricket Club in Oxfordshire, England. OR...

Josh has had five or six head coaches now and his agent is still waiting on a phone call from anyone. It's not because he's long in the tooth because he's only thirty. Coachability can't be an overstated term.

In today's News You Can't Use... "Josh Smith" is eyeing a dilapidated property on valuable land on the Vegas Strip...https://vegasinc.com/business/real-estate/2016/aug/22/how-much-is-a-dilapidated-strip-motel-worth-owners/

Josh Smith, vice president of brokerage firm Sun Commercial Real Estate’s hospitality division, said he liked the motel’s location; it has a “coveted” Las Vegas Boulevard address. But he said a developer would need to assemble nearby parcels to build a big project. “You definitely couldn’t put a megaresort on it today,” he said.

Truro City are waiting to hear from the FA whether they will face any action after a "supporter" came onto the pitch during Saturday's 2-2 National League South draw at Hampton & Richmond.

It is the third time in the past 12 months that the club has faced a similar situation, all involving matches away from Treyew Road

The solitary "pitch invader" came onto the pitch at the Beveree Stadium, just on half time after Niall Thomson scored City's second goal to put them 2-0 up.

And the match referee, Josh Smith, is obliged under FA rules to include the incident in his report.

Kwame Brown?    First, I had no idea he made it 11 seasons in the NBA.   Second, no way he's coming back unless he's been working out with Herschel Walker or something.    If I was a coach i'd hire Smoove under the condition that he agrees to play center and not take any jump shots.   He could reinvent himself as a Rodman/Wallace but i guess you have to have more of a motor for that.

In today's News You Can't Use, a former Hawk favorite is on his way across the Pacific!

Meanwhile, back here in the States... or at least one specific state, Tennessee... the Commodores simply haven't been the same since Lionel Richie left and "Josh Smith" arrived...http://www.anchorofgold.com/2016/8/19/12550246/2016-vanderbilt-football-position-previews-inside-linebackers

Josh Smith, sophomore: Smith, the star recruit in Vanderbilt’s 2015 recruiting class, saw action in all 12 games last season and notched seven tackles. It’s a testament to the strength of this unit that Smith can’t crack the starting lineup, but his presence may mean that in a disaster scenario of one of the starters getting hurt, Vanderbilt may not suffer all that much.

Up in the Pacific Northwest, only you can prevent forest fires, but at least "Josh Smith" has been helping monitor them!

The forecast Saturday was for continued high temperatures with minimum relative humidity at 19 percent, Eagle said. The Weather Service extended a red-flag warning through Saturday evening.

Fires were expected to grow more through Saturday, but a cooling trend starting today was expected to begin to calm fire activity.

High temperatures are expected to drop into the 70s today, with humidity increasing up to 80 percent, Eagle said.

The heat wave was fueled by offshore flows coming from over the Cascade Mountains, said Josh Smith, a meteorologist with the Weather Service in Seattle.

halestormringrocker2016_638.jpg

Meanwhile, back East, you all remember Whiskey Myers, right? Well, before performing with "Handsome" Josh Smith up in Tennessee this weekend, that Southern Rock/Red Dirt outfit was up in Michigan and, just weeks ago, performed with A Completely Different "Josh Smith"! I dunno about Handsome, but this particular "Josh Smith" spent that weekend in Josh Smith's second-favorite NBA town, going by the nickname, "Hand sore"...

Quote

At the beginning of hard rock outfit Halestorm’s Carnival Of Madness Tour set on Thursday, Aug. 6 at the DTE Energy Music Theater, frontwoman and guitar mad scientist Izzy Hale took a break from shredding on her pearl white Gibson Explorer to make an announcement.

“Detroit! We love you!” she proclaimed. “This is the last night of tour, y’all. Anything can happen.” And, wouldn’t you know it, Hale’s buoyant assertion lived up to its claims, and then some.

The suburban venue was packed to the top of the lawn early as Texas southern rock quintet Whiskey Myers and longtime Kentucky rockers Black Stone Cherry both played sparkling turns to the crowd, which made it apparent that they were just eager to get the revue going. Halestorm then set the palpably exciting tone for headliner Shinedown, as it ran through a set equal parts ostentatious and dazzling, which saw Hale’s brother, drummer Arejay, match his sister’s proficiency and bassist Josh Smith plucking away admirably despite a bandaged right hand due to a recent fall.

"Josh Smith" (J-Strum?) is the dude in sunglasses on the right, above. Here he is with his band's drummer, speaking to RingRocker.com and copied by Blabbermouth ("the CNN of heavy metal and hard rock news," their words) about the excitement that ensues when they do covers.

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/how-covering-other-artists-material-has-influenced-halestorm-songwriting-process/

Quote

RingRocker.com conducted an interview with HALESTORM drummer Arejay Hale and bassist Josh Smith at this year's edition of the Rock Am Ring festival, which was held in June in Germany. You can now watch the chat below.

Speaking about how HALESTORM goes about picking which songs to record for series of covers EPs, Josh said: "We start out with basically everyone… Our team… Oh my God! My dad finds out that we're doing a cover album, all I get is texts: 'Oh, you should do this.' But anyone… anyone who finds out we're doing a covers album, all of a sudden you're just getting this crazy list. So it literally starts out with e-mails of lists and lists, and somehow, over months, we kind of whittle down our list until we get to a short list of maybe ten songs or less. And then we record 'em and see what works and see what we like."

He continued: "Now, after the first one, we sort of followed a similar formula with the second one in that it's very generational — we have a song from '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, a contemporary pop song… So that was a nice way to pick our songs. Really, that has been the template."

And finally, back to Sports...

bilde?Site=SJ&Date=20160819&Category=PRE

Over in the Palmetto State, that's Josh Smith of the Broome (HS) Centurions, wreaking havoc to QBs on the gridiron when he's not catching their passes. Also going by the name Nathan, the 6-foot-4 junior is a two-way player at tight end and defensive end who's got his eye on Coastal Carolina.

For today's News You Can't Use, with a Hawks legend watching from the sidelines, a former Hawk wins a local summer hoops tournament!

But first, a flashback... to happier times for all involved, just over one year ago...

For reasons you can reasonably surmise, Smoovie and Scottie did not re-up with the Uptown Sounds for 2016.

So, despite LouWill's best efforts (breaking his own personal league scoring record, for at least the third straight year, with 54 points in a game), Uptown Sounds was unsuccessful in defending its AEBL crown in Midtown this past Sunday.

We see you back there, Damien Wilkins!

In today's News You can't Use, up in Wisconsin, "Josh Smith" (on the right) is a life saver!

http://www.waupacanow.com/2016/08/23/sincere-praise-for-fire-angels/#_

Quote

Appreciation and gifts was not what members of the Manawa Rural Fire Department expected at the Fire Board meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 16.

John Chaplin attended the meeting to thank the MRFD for saving his house on Sunday, Aug. 14.

As he was riding his bicycle that day, he heard the fire siren and saw the emergency vehicles pass him on the road.

“I thought to myself, ‘those guys have no idea where they are going or what they are going to get into,’” he said.

The next words were harder for Chaplin to say. He sat down, paused and tearfully continued.

“I came over the hill to my house and all the trucks were there … at my house,” he said. “The fire angels saved my house, saved my dog, and made my wife happy.”

Chaplin presented the MRFD with a shop vac, decorative pocket knife and a statue, saying they deserved much more.

“I can’t buy a fire truck,” he said. “But I offer my auctioneering skills (if needed).”

“We have a great group of men and women that proudly serve on the department to protect our community,” said Fire Chief Rob Rosenau. “These members give up a lot to serve on the department. It’s gestures like this that makes it well worth it. Knowing that we touched a family the way we did, is great.”

“We don’t do the job we all do for special recognition, but it is a welcomed surprise when we receive it,” said Assistant Fire Chief Josh Smith.

Also, if you somehow managed to forget that National Peach Pie Day was yesterday, no worries, because "Josh Smith" won't let you miss out!

http://www.readingeagle.com/life/article/national-peach-pie-day-is-one-sweet-holiday

"We'll be harvesting peaches until mid-September," said Josh Smith, retail manager at Frecon Farms, 501 S. Reading Ave., Boyertown (Pennsylvania). "We'll also have scratch-made goods such as peach pie, peach-blueberry pie and peach-strawberry pie."

Yum!

Before delving into the News You Can't Use, let's see if there's any news and commentary among the Twittersphere this month.

Ouch! That didn't go over well. Let's stick with the Google News instead.

Out in Colorado, "Josh Smith" says they're just happy to finally be doing away with Commodore 64s...

In fact, school board member Pam Howard said that since the state cut funding to schools about a decade ago, the district has not had a regular avenue for replacement. It has relied on community groups, fundraising efforts and grants, which means that the technology varies by schools.

The district has 18,000 devices of which 69 percent are more than five years old, which is considered obsolete with as fast as technology changes, Josh Smith, the district's information technology director told the school board in March. Many computers are much older, and he mentioned one teacher even has a working Apple 2E.

To replace all the computers, projectors, printers and other devices that need updated would cost up to $1.4 million per year for the entire wish list — money the district does not have. Instead, it has been repairing machines and making some minor upgrades, while the main focus has been security and connectivity.

"We're trying to stretch our machines as much as possible with the resources we have," Smith said in an interview Thursday.

...but that wasn't enough to stop one Colorado student, "Josh Smith" (the cheesy-smiling kid third from the left), from using his TI-99/4A to win himself an award!

Finally, you want another Public Safety Hero story? Here's another Public Safety Hero story.

The Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics of North Carolina and its statewide local associations are active participants in Firefighters Coats for Kids, an outreach foundation that provides new, American-made coats for children in need.

Liz Petree, who owns Wine Maestro with her husband, Jason, said she was happy to sign on for a second year.

“Josh (Smith, secretary-treasurer of the N.C. Professional Fire Firefighters and Paramedics and a captain with the Statesville Fire Department) came to me last year and showed me what they do for the children," she said. "They’re getting brand new coats and learning about fire safety."

Petree said she could see Smith was passionate about the cause and she quickly learned the members of the association care deeply about providing coats for children.

“To see grown men care about young kids, it softens your heart," she said. "We do charity events throughout the year, and as a mother of two boys, this seemed like a great cause to help kids warm in the winter.”

Smith said this year's goal is to raise enough money to buy 75 coats.

We interrupt News You Can't Use with actual media coverage!

This one comes courtesy of typically pro-Hawks CBS Sports writer Matt Moore...

Cavaliers blog The King James Gospel had an interesting idea that the Cavaliers should sign free agent veteran Josh Smith, and then it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Josh Smith, at age 30, is un-signed in late August.

You don't say?

Quote

It is shocking that we're here. Yet here we are. Smith continues to sit on the market, with no real reports of any interest in him...

The reasons for Josh Smith's fall from NBA grace aren't immediately known. There's talk of attitude and basketball IQ, of decision making and diminished athleticism after he spent so many years in the league after being drafted out of high school. It may be some other element that only NBA executives and coaches know and have yet to share with reporters. We may never know what happened.

Smith isn't the first player to fall off like this, and he won't be the last. But he should serve as a reminder to NBA fans of how fleeting success can be in the league, and how quickly some players who look like true stars and appear to have long, successful careers ahead of them can wind up on the outside -- as we all wonder, "What happened to that guy?"
