How does the FBI stuff effect us? - borderline that it should be on the big board but it effects our draft

Top level guys (and Universities) are mentioned in the FBI investigation - including Sexton from Alabama and some others.  Are there any lawyers out there who may know if these guys are really in trouble?

I thought that it was just an NCAA rules violation to get like a $100,000 "loan" from an agent and it didn't matter once the kid went to the pros.  Now I hear that since the big colleges receive federal funding that both the agent and the athlete could be eligible for prosecution.

We certainly don't want to take a guy with a high draft pick who might spend his rookie season in a minimum security federal prison - playing pick-up ball with a bunch of politicians  :ermm:

Thoughts?

Since when did the FBI get in the business of investigating whether college teams follow NCAA procedures?  Shouldn't they be out looking for killers and spies?

They are looking for killers and spies but illegal bribery is also something they do.  It isn't like the anti-terrorism guys got pulled off of other assignments and put on this case.  Money laundering, white collar crimes, etc. are all in different areas of the FBI.

Isn't the issue paying college players under the table?  While perhaps unsavory, is it really illegal, as opposed to a violation of some NCAA rule?

The issue is more about bribing government officials and those government officials being part of bribery schemes.  The coaches are frequently the highest paid government employees in the state.
