We should help OKC... and ourselves.

Dennis/Miles Plumlee to OKC for Carmelo Anthony/ 2023 first round pick (unprotected).

Makes room for Trae.  Gets Plumlee off the books and gives us a first rounder in the future.

For OKC.. Clears Melo off their books.

This is Melo's last contract.   He can come here and be the focus of the offense.  What do we care?   Next offseason, we will be the biggest player with the most capspace.

The one out of their mind is the one that think we are contenders next year?? What is the reason for holding on to Plumlee or Dennis?

We can get a first rounder out of this.

Taking out the fact that Melo would never agree to be traded here without a promise of being released ... there is absolutely no reason for OKC to do the deal at all.  They save no money (they are 33 million over the tax line) and getting Plumlee and Dennis doesn’t improve them at all.  It’s an absolutely terrible deal for OKC

Here's the deal.  If Melo wants to be released... do it.   We lose much future salary and we get a first.

Secondly.  Melo might want to play here because he's going to be coming off the bench in OKC.

OKC saves no money but they get better talent.

Last year, even with Raymond Felton, OKC struggled when Westbrook left the floor.   Plug in Westbrook Minime... Dennis.   Being that they lose Felton anyway, Dennis would be an acceptable BU that gives them more value than having Carmelo would.

It makes absolutely no sense ... they need to get rid of salary ... 33 million over the tax line means they will have a 66 million penalty  ... taking Plumlee is not remotely worth taking Dennis and it only causes more problems over more years ... dennis is not a good fit there either

The current depth chart in Orlando at the point (Payton signed elsewhere) is DJ Augustin and Rodney Purvis. If ever there was a team that needs Dennis, its Orlando. Take back BB and get an unprotected 1st.

There is no value in sending him to Denver (as if they could take him). Nothing Denver would send us is of use.

I like the idea and as has been pointed out Melo might too as he would be the man and could shoot it to his heart's content.  Ressler would love it as it would bring a certain excitement to Phillips while still keeping the tank on.  While many think Anthony would never consider it, Atlanta is not the worst place to ply ones trade.  Just not sure why OKC would do it, but Dennis and Russ would make for an interesting mix.

Keeping Melo will cost OKC something like $100 Million so there's ZERO chance he plays there next year.  BUT, as others have said, there's also little to no chance OKC or Melo would agree to that deal.  They have to cut salary not exchange salary.  On NBATV last night, David Aldridge was saying Melo is a good fit for OKC on the court and in the locker room, but financially, there's just no way the owners can tolerate the $100 Million bill that comes with Melo.

If we are talking about trading Dennis, Orlando just seems like the obvious choice doesn't it?  They need a PG and have a glut of bigs.  Hawks can take on Bismack and a pick.  Win win.

I disagree that Dennis is not a good fit.   I think he's the guy who can play behind and sometimes besides Westbrook.

As far as the caponomics, I don't disagree.   However, Atlanta has to prosper in this deal too.

So maybe same trade:  Dennis/Moose for Melo/1st (2023 unprotected).

Maybe a mix of the ideas:

Dennis/Moose to Orlando, Bismack, Ross to OKC, Melo, 1st OKC to us.

With the cap situation you are in you don't pay 15.5 million (over next three years which due to being over the cap is 31 million a season) for a backup pg who can't hit a three ... Felton actually is a better option ... not because he is better but he is a better backup willing to play backup minutes and will come in and can hit threes and run the offense during Rus' breaks for A LOT cheaper.

Yes Atlanta has to prosper in a trade too and that is why a trade with OKC doesn't make sense.  OKC has to remove Melo without taking back salary or very little salary.

Just Moose for Melo / first (where we release/stretch Melo) makes more sense.   They get some depth with a pf who can hit the three and more importantly get out of Melo's contract and salary cap hit and we get the first.  The first or Ferguson

Exactly and IIRC, OKC are repeat Tax offenders so it may be 1.5 times the amount over the LT.
