Premium Member JayBirdHawk Posted August 13, 2019 Premium Member Report Share Posted August 13, 2019 Bol.Bol.update... The expectation is that second-round pick Bol Bol will sign a two-way contract, but nothing is official. Wow - from a top 10 pick to a 2way GL contract. I feel for the kid. 1

I have always loved the kid as a human even if I didn’t love the bball skills for our Hawks... Man, the way the kid came to the stage at the draft had me crying. He looks walks and talks like a humble kid. I’m rooting for him big time! 3

Update: Quote Bol Bol remains out following foot surgery with no timetable to return. This news was discovered during the first media conference of the day, with Bol Bol saying he will need a little longer to recover and there’s no set date for him to begin playing 5 on 5 again. 1

Popular Post NBASupes
I got some info: 1. TS targeted about 40 prospects for our picks that he felt would be a good system fit. Outside of a couple who didn't workout via injury, everyone we targeted came to workout. 2. When I say LP wasn't feeling most he was not feeling most of them. Especially some of my main guys who TS liked. Those players who TS loved but LP didn't was Brandon Clarke, Jarrett Culver, Kevin Porter Jr., and Jaxson Hayes. There were a lot of players who TS liked in the 2nd round like Gafford and Nik Claxton. 3. I asked about reasoning and for Clarke I got doesn't have a position in the style and system we play. Too small for the 4 and much too small for the 5. Culver just wasn't big or long enough to play both wing positions but TS loved him. I would say TS was higher on him than Hunter before workouts. Most of our scouts were much higher on Hunter. LP was highest on Hunter. When workouts came Hunter killed it. He was MUCH better than Culver during his workouts. Scouts felt justified in Hunter. While I didn't hear of a promise, there was a clear line of communication that both wanted each other badly. Porter Jr. was uncoachable. Hayes was too raw to go so high even if Atlanta liked his talent and fit with Collins. Claxton didn't project to be big enough for the 5 and Gafford was too limited. 4. Hunter was #2 on our big board even if he was #7 on TS before the workouts. TS loved Zion #1, R.J. #2, Culver #3, Cam #4, Clarke #5, Hayes #6, and Hunter #7 from what I got. While LP was #1 Zion, #2 Hunter #3 Cam #4 R.J. #5 P.J. Washington. Scouts board mirrored LP but Hunter was #3 and R.J. was #2. Hunter did shoot up TS big board after the workouts and he moved to #2 over Culver and he left Cam at #3 while working with LP while Clarke fell out of the top 5. What was clear was there was a gap after Zion/Reddish/R.J. and especially Zion. Culver/Clarke and Hayes once a clear target fell off of our board and P.J. Washington moved ahead of him. 5. From what I got, there were like 20 draftable players on the Hawks board once workouts finished. They wanted to land two out of four of these players: Zion, R.J., Cam and Hunter. That was the goal. The other goal was to get out of the 2nd round altogether. They didn't like the fit of players projected to be 2nd rounders. They only moved up because Bruno who we had in the mid of the 1st by grade was available in the 2nd round and was a no brainer value. 6. TS loved this class, saw a lot of talent but Atlanta drafts on fit, style, how they can plug in and play with Trae and John, etc. LP is the final decision-maker. If he doesn't like it, TS pushes it down. This is why TS is such an effective drafter. He didn't do that with Bud though. He didn't see the game the way Bud saw it. If Bud was our coach last year, we would have drafted JJJ. He didn't like us drafting John Collins. Collins doesn't play defense in his perceptive and looked at him as a future 6th man. LP made him into Karl Malone Jr. LP sees the game exactly how TS sees it but TS doesn't have the feel for it like LP does but LP doesn't have the hawkeyes as TS does. They are a match made in heaven. Bud values all-around players. TS values pieces to the puzzle for dominance in today's NBA. LP sees it the same way. LP feels there are numerous ways to get there. Bud felt it has to be a certain way. 7. I was told TS is open to a trade to improve the team if we show signs of playoff readiness. I was told LP on the other hand just doesn't want to skip steps which is what both have publically stated as well. That's all. NBASupes
I said that's it but I got one more bit of information that I forgot to write about: Hunter's workout was the best workout we had. He was a tier above everyone else we brought in. Reddish tape was loved by LP who felt he just needed to be in the right system and personnel and he would be fantastic down the road. Another that they loved was R.J. Scouts and TS loved him. LP loved him too much not as much as Cam. He really liked Cam's tape. He felt there were a lot of areas where he would excel at here but wasn't available at Duke. There was some in the organization who wasn't in love with Cam but most especially the key stakeholders loved him, especially Ressler. 2
bleachkit
There were reports that Hawks offered 8 and 10 for 3. New York said no then countered 8, 10 and Kevin, with the Hawks rebuffed. So clearly they really liked RJ.

They wanted to get that pick, move back to #5 with CLE for a future unprotected pick in 2020. I never got any major comps that it was really real but I would imagine if Atlanta moved up to #3. It wouldn't be a sure thing they would keep the pick. Edited October 9, 2019 by NBASupes

So basically we would be trading Jackson Hayes, Cam Reddish and Kevin Huerter for RJ Barrett. That's a hell no. 2
