Premium Member Popular Post JayBirdHawk Posted December 5, 2019 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted December 5, 2019 Excerpt of TS interview via The Athletic: Q: Now that you mentioned Cam. How would you assess his performance so far and what do you think he’s capable of long term? He’s extremely talented. I have had this conversation with him — it’s not just about consistency on the court but the consistency with his effort. He’s so talented and has been so much better than the kids he was playing against in high school. He didn’t have to show up every night to be successful, and now in the NBA, he does have to show up every night to be successful. I think the biggest thing we have seen from him so far is what he can bring us defensively. He’s had games where he’s had six, seven or eight rebounds. He has the ability to be a great secondary ballhandler for the team with his ability to pass. He’s going to make shots. He’s not going to be a 20 percent 3-point shooter. I’m not so worried about that. That’s going to come with confidence more than anything else. I’m really excited about what I think he can give us defensively with his length, athleticism and anticipation on that end.Q: I guess my question is why aren’t you so concerned with his shooting numbers? The first thing is he’s still making his free throws. He’s shooting around 80 percent right now. He’s got a good-looking shot. It’s not broken. He doesn’t have an elbow flying out and isn’t using his left hand or anything like that. It’s just about repetition and confidence. That’s what it comes down to for a lot of these guys at this level. Do they have confidence in themselves? The guys who have a great amount of confidence make a ton of shots.Q: Is this about what you expected from Cam and De’Andre so far? Yeah, I would say certainly with De’Andre. Again, he’s been affected with Kevin and John both being out. Instead of being more of a role player in his first year, we’ve had to put the ball in his hands a little bit more, and it’s obviously something that he didn’t have much experience in. I think he’s going to be able to do it, for sure, but any time you go from being the fourth or third option to the second option — it’s a big change in the NBA. On the bright side, he’s getting a bunch of experience early in the year with facilitating, as a ballhandler, as a guy running pick-and-roll — I hope it’s going to pay big dividends in the future. When you’re forced in that position, it can make for some uneasy possessions sometimes.
Premium Member Popular Post JayBirdHawk Posted December 5, 2019 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted December 5, 2019 Quote To smooth over the bumps of a rookie season, Reddish has been studying extra film with the coaches. He noted that the film has helped him slow down some of the plays on which he used to rush, while also helping him identify the spots where he can best find openings to score. Reddish has also been going back to the practice court at the Emory Sports Medicine Complex at night for some extra individual work with assistant coach Melvin Hunt. "After practice, I go home and play with my dog a little bit and chill. Then I try to go back later that night and try to get some more shots up. I've been focusing on my balance – holding my follow-through and trying to be super detailed on my jump shot."The additional attention to detail is paying off with improved footwork and results, and Reddish is poised to show why the team believes he can become an effective two-way player sooner than later. Cam putting in work! Love it

AUhawksfan
At the end of the day, Cam wants to put in the work. That work and effort shows up on defense right away and we’ve seen it. It might take some more time to show up on offense but if the motivation continues it’ll only be a matter of time.

BudBall
Even though Hunter has been better than Reddish and has higher floor, I much more excited for Cam and what he can become with his extremely high ceiling. I honestly think Hunter will just end up being just an ok role player, I just don't see it in him to be anything more than that. People are going to hate me for saying this, but he reminds me a lot of Minnesota Wesley Johnson... Edited December 7, 2019 by BudBall

Hunter goals is Shane Battier and his real goal is a rich man's Shane Battier but nothing about him screams superstar.

When he was playing, he was my favorite non Hawk player and I always hoped that we would trade for him. Just to think that Hunter may be a clone of Battier is an exciting thought to me. A rich man's Battier! Add Cam and Bruno to the other young Hawks makes me believe the future of the Hawks will be much better than the present. Hurry up and grow up, baby birds!!

That’s the one I mentioned that same night. This was his best move of the night. You know what type of fast twitch athlete that move reminded me of...I don’t use this much at all...my main man Barry Sanders! Shook. I became a Lions fan 30 years ago because of the #20. Top 10 pure athlete in any sport ever imo. move indeed.I also kinda likened him a bit to Mike which I rarely do as well. Some guys get into the league and have to learn how to play basketball, pure basketball..Cam doesn’t have that problem. Probably the top 10 rookie in the NBA the last 30+ years with strictly natural basketball skill. With time comes maturity and strength.

Agreed on Shane gramps. There we’re strong rumors of us actually drafting Shane had we not moved up in the lottery draft to 3rd and taken Gasol before the Reef trade. Had we not hit the top 3 that year there’s a chance we may have taken him. Culture setter, team dude. Loved whose ur daddy too!

Probably the top 10 rookie in the NBA the last 30+ years with strictly natural basketball skill. With time comes maturity and strength. For me skill means the ability to do something well. Clarke and Zion are very skilled. Cam is exceptionally talented. It's turning those talents into skill. While on offense, Cam feels like an out of HS type drafted in the 2nd round. The thing he has over them is high level awareness for a 1 and done. He has had a year in structured Basketball which no fresh outta HS has ever had outside of Kobe as of course, he is an one & done. Since this is the case, Cam turnaround time could be much much quicker than the fresh out of HS types and his coaching and league is a lot more advanced so that should help too. Cam could average 15-20ppg in the 2nd half of the season and it wouldn't surprise me. It's rare that guys are this talented with this type of skill-set at the 2. Cam talent goes back to McGrady and Kobe. He doesn't have the same explosiveness as those two but he is much faster and his moves are quicker. He is fast like DeAaron Fox in the open court but agile with the rock like Jamal Crawford. Ain't too many guys this damn talented. Teams were down on him because he is as raw on offense as an out of HS 2nd rounder but the joke is on them. Add his defensive polish and talent, he really should have went top 3-4. No disrespect to Hunter. He is an excellent player and someone we need. That move before the midrange jumper after the rebound was pure McGrady. Premium Member Popular Post JayBirdHawk Posted December 15, 2019 Premium Member Popular Post Report Share Posted December 15, 2019 Good stuff! Quote It must be remembered, though, that Reddish will play his entire rookie season at the age of 20. In addition, he possesses a rare combination of length, fluidity and coordination that should help greatly in his transition to the professional game. The perimeter shot, in time, will come along or it won’t. Given the fact that Reddish was able to put in little work this past summer as he was recovering from surgery, it might be wise to not make too much of those results, particularly from the three-point line, this season.

Moderators Popular Post macdaddy Posted December 17, 2019 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted December 17, 2019 Hunter and Cam have both met and really exceeded my expectations. I was optimistic but didn't think they'd look like real NBA rotation players and starters this soon.
