We'll end up getting a couple of games from those bums before the year is over. They always end up making changes to the schedule when star players are injured ,or the match ups look bad  because teams have under preformed. If Zion gets injured all those Pelican games will get dumped.

I can't tell what I'm rooting for more.  For the Hawks to get to the Finals or for the PeliCan'ts to fall flat on their faces this year.

The PeliCan'ts should not be inspiring this much hate.  They are getting overhyped but....eh...is that it?  Zion is thoroughly likable with zero off-court issues.  NO is a non-premium market that has never attracted a single high profile FA and has never won anything of any consequence.  And they look like lottery fodder for this season.  Some level of hype around their young talent and future picks is definitely warranted even if the media is overboard on the hype train (see our Dynasty Draft where we Hawks fans picked more NOP than any other team).

So they don't even approach a team like the Celtics for hate for me, let alone that hate contending with my love for the Hawks.

Give me the Hawks in the Finals every day of the week over the Pelicans having a disastrous season and ending up with a pick between 1-5 plus all their other picks.  They don't need any karmic help from your rooting to suck this year.  They'll be near enough to the top of the lottery all on their own.

Feel free to hate whoever you want in sports.  Being able to hate irrationally is a great thing about sports!  Just don't think they are worthy of your attention.

I hate to play therapist here but perhaps kg is so knowledgeable about his basketball history that he potentially envisions the Pelicans as the 84 Chicago Bulls. A few years of getting kicked out and taking bruises from the bad boys to become an all time great by winning 6 titles in 8 years. By my calculation, kg is worried about 2026 or so. Maybe 2025.

Came to the same conclusion about the early tough start but the smoother finishing run.

It oughta be bumpy through mid-December.  Hawks will have 20 games where they're playing their 3rd-game-in-4-nights. Half of those 20 come during the first 26 games of the season. The other ten instances get spread out over the next 50 games, and there'll be none in the final seven games.

Similar deal with the 4th-game-in-6-nights. First ten times during the opening 26 games, last nine times spread out over the next 46 games, with none in the final ten games.

They've got five of their nine road-game back-end-of-back-to-backs during their first 33 games (incl. two trips to Chicago in December, and the Staples Center Weekend game against the Lakers in November), then no such games for well over a month, and then none during the final eight games.

The team record for home-game winning streak is 22 (1990-91), and I have a good feeling there's a threat of that toppling at the start of the 2020-21 season. I have the Hawks losing the first game at The Farm post-MLK (vs. the Clips), and then I feel a roll coming on.

There are a few toughies in the mix (Sixers, Blazers, go ahead and throw in the Pels and the Nets), and also the big Luka game after the Break. But the rest of the home schedule are a bunch of teams the Hawks have a chance to be tripped up by. Knicks twice, Cavs twice, Hornets twice, Wizards twice. Only one home game post-MLK will be on a back-to-back (the Leap Day game against Portland). Post-Break, they'll have the heat, Mavs, Magic, Nets, Blazers, Grizzlies at home over the course of 12 days, broken up only by a trip to Philly. If they come out of that stretch unscathed, I can see a home streak that could get up in the high teens.

I'm expecting a rough start to the season, and I'm hoping the fans and especially the team will show resolve through that stretch, tampering down on the traditional tank talk. Alternatively, if the Hawks DON'T struggle much at all in the first few months... we may already have ourselves a little something something by the time April gets here.

Took another quick look at the schedule and by the time we build a lil chemistry 🧪 and get a little blow in the schedule it’s Feb...

What do you guys think about going on a little streak then? Say Sunday, Feb. 9th until Friday, March 20!

18 games during that stretch featuring less that beast opponents.

14-4 during that stretch or even 13-5 would have us headed in the right direction.

An important 40 or so days for us to take advantage.

Kevin Johnson finally got his ultimate due coverage once he flat out dunked on Hakeem, on the baseline no less, so does Trae have to go similar? Thinking maybe a twenty assist game is more in line with our guy. It will happen more than once.
