Back to 20.

On Tuesday morning, the Atlanta Hawks announced that 22-year-old big man Ray Spalding, who was signed to an Exhibit 10 contract in late July, was waived. With that news as the backdrop, the organization had an open roster spot for training camp and, just a few hours later, Atlanta moved to sign shooting guard Jordan Sibert.

Though details were not disclosed, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports that Sibert signed an Exhibit 10 contract and, given the circumstances, that is the logical move from Atlanta’s standpoint. Sibert, a 27-year-old shooting guard, joined the Hawks on a 10-day contract last season and he also appeared with the team at Summer League in Las Vegas.

Sibert spent the majority of the 2018-19 season with the Erie BayHawks, appearing 42 games and making 29 starts for Atlanta’s G League affiliate. The 6’4 guard averaged 16.1 points per game and, from an NBA standpoint, Sibert’s most significant attribute is his perimeter shooting, where he converted 38.2 percent of his three-point attempts last season.

With the signing of Sibert, the Hawks are once again carrying 20 players on the preseason roster, with 14 full-time players, a pair of Two-Way contracts, and four players on training camp-focused deals.

Stay tuned.
