I’ve heard Penny/white chocolate comparisons but Magic is on a different level type comparison. If LaMelo is 1/3 of the prospect Magic was and we get a top 3 pick, we might need to take him. Can we run Trae and LaMelo in a 2 PG starting backcourt? In this case it would be Isiah (Trae) teaming up with Magic (LaMelo) not just kissing him at mid court . Would this work? Trae/Dunn Lamelo/Huerter Cam/Hunter Collins/Trez Capela/Ded You know how Alice used to duck on free throw rebounds like he was scared? Well, that's how Ball approaches all contact iiuc. If we didn't have Trae, I'd be all for drafting him because we could build a team around his shortcomings. I think he could become basically a non-defending, skinny Ben Simmons who doesn't take it to the hole as much. Wait, is that basically Michael Carter Williams? heh 2

I'm gonna try to listen. Seems like the app wasn't updated with the latest shows last time I checked. I remember Franny not being super high on Doncic, btw. How strange is that considering he's the guy meant to pump Euros (hehe)? I like when he's on though. Does a really good job. Know what else is strange? Remember crazy Bob from RGM? He basically said this Deni guy is the next Euro bust. Called him the next Darko or Tskiltvilli (I can pronounce the name but I can't spell it so I hope you know who I'm talking about).

Then I watched more tape, he’s not a bust by any means. He can be a contributor and a good one on a team that moves and facilitates the ball. Im higher on Deni than I was before. To me, he can be a solid starter/bench contributor. Fran is really good as far as his breakdown of tape in these prospects. The only thing I laugh at is the end where he compares them to other greats... sound familiar in this board Thabeet= Dikembe Lamelo.... Magic Johnson When he said that, my ears perked up, and I got a lil bone bone to be honest with ya. Only because we might have a chance to get a backcourt of: Trae (Zeke) Lamelo (Magic) Lamelo is 6’8”, I ask again, if the guy is a great scorer as well as his playmaking, why can’t we play him with Trae. But like you said, he’s soft as charmin that won’t work. Magic has a strong body and he was max filled out. Magic honestly had the body of a power forward in a point guard. Harden - 7/8.5 with two swing skills. (Shooting and Ball Handling) Turned out he secretly had another one (Playmaking) Oladipo - 7.5/8.5 with two swing skills. (Shooting and Playmaking) Reach neither so far but close to shooting. Okoro - Floor: 7 Offense - 5.5 Defense - 9 Ceiling: 8.5 Offense - 7.5 Defense - 9.5 Fit: 9 Swing Skills: Shooting and Playmaking Comparisons: Tough to say since he's a movement specialist who isn't a good shooter. I like the Jimmy Butler because there are some commonalities between the two but not really. As Prospects: Butler - 5.5/7.5 with two swing skills (Defensive Impact and Offensive Impact at good levels) Toppin - Floor: 7.5 Offense - 8.5 Defense - 5.5 Ceiling: 8.5 Offense - 9.5 Defense - 6 Fit: 8* I have him in the 2nd unit with Jeff. With Trae, his fit is a 9.5 like John's. With Trae, his floor is a 8 and ceiling is a 9 Swing Skills: Shooting, Playmaking, and Defensive Playmaking Amar'e Stoudemire and Chris Webber with Joakim Noah's defensive brain but Kyle Kuzma defensive movements in his place. As Prospects: Amar'e - 6/8 + one swing skill. - Mid Range Shooting (era) C. Webb - 7.5/8.5 + two swing skills. Mid Range Shooting (era) + Playmaking Kuzma - 6.5/7.5 + one swing skill. Shooting Deni Avdija Floor: 7 Ceiling: 8 Fit: 8.5 Swing Skills: Shooting and Defensive versatility Comparison: Toni Kukoc with better defense but less shooting As Prospects: Kukoc - 5.5/7 + one swing skill (Shooting for that era) Hayes - Floor: 7.5 Ceiling: 8 Fit: 9 Swing Skills: Shooting Comparison: Billups, D. Russell As Prospects: Billups- 6.5/8 + one swing skill. - Shooting (era) Russell - 7/8.5 + no swing skill. No one received a +.5 for fit this year like Cam did last year for us and Clarke did for Memphis. Swing Skills are worth .5 points which is significant. Perfect example is John Collins. He was a 6.5/7.5 prospect. His fit with Trae bumped him up to 8 ceiling. He is extremely close to 8.5 if not there already as he has improved his shooting which was a swing skill as a prospect. His production is one of a 8.5 but his impact this year has dropped a bit but he's close which is all that matters. After my convo with my guy about FA. My new Hawks big board: 1t. Edwards 1t. Toppin 3. Okoro 4. Deni A. 5. Hayes Toppin jumped two spots and is equal to Edwards for me, for us. Okoro only went back due to Toppin's need going up due to the FA projections he shared. NBASupes
When it comes to Ball, I don't know about Magic for playmaking but I see a bigger and longer Trae Young with less risk taking but similar flashy playmaking wise as prospects. Overall, it's tough to say. He has a 7 on offense and 5 on defense ASAP. 9 ceiling with two swing skills. Fit is just like Trae, build it all around Ball. He can be a great player but he needs a lot of polish. He's miles better than MCW as a prospect. His talent level is the best in this draft class. Called him the next Darko or Tskiltvilli (I can pronounce the name but I can't spell it so I hope you know who I'm talking about). His opinion on Doncic was pretty much the usual at that time. The issue people always have is the end goal. He said Doncic is like Gordon Hayward with Manu's mind. I think the part they miss with Doncic is his playmaking is elite and his strength is elite and his athletic ability is excellent even if he's slow. He's like Cam where since he's not explosive, people question his athletic ability but he's fast, quick, agile, and super fast with the rock in his hands. There is more to athletic ability than that. https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/college-hoops-analyst-not-overhype-luka-doncic-article-1.3954919

If we didn't have Trae, LaMelo would be my #1 option. I was being a bit strong, as usual, but I don't think the negative stuff is far off from reality. He'll struggle with contact both on D and finishing. He's not a shooter so he'll need development there too. Maybe, instead of MCW, I should've said Livingston as his floor. That said, I can see him being the most impactful out of this draft in the right situation.
