I just want to see him and JC together, and for more than the last two weeks of the year. At least hoping for the last 6 weeks.

I feel ( remember ) your pain but a 1st round pick that may not even convey this season is not the same as Deke to say the least. I think we did great in this deal and no major injury is listed for Capela. Theo was getting a pin put in his wrist when Kasten traded for him; no such major surgery for Capela. 2

Don't be jinxing us. We're on the outside looking in. Schlenk almost certainly would have done this deal even if he was persuaded there's a decent chance Capela doesn't play this season at all. Everything for now suggests assuming the worst case scenario is good for one's blood pressure long-term.

If TS knew it was likely that Capela would not lace up those Chucks this season, he would definitely have a crisis of unmet expectations for most of Hawks-nation and, dare I say, Trae. Not sure he would not have shared that possibility if Capela sidelined for months was a somewhat probable reality. Just my thoughts. I think he planned to be in the lottery from Day 1 and that he would care much less about this season and much more about next season. Having Dedmon come on board pretty much guarantees better production for the rest of the year so if Capela was lined up for an extended stay I don't think he would pass on him at his price to get a worse deal on a comparable player who could step in immediately. Premium Member sturt Posted February 19, 2020 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 19, 2020 So, first week of March? So, somewhere in the range of 15-20 games? Okay. Can live with that, no problem. But, theoretically, the decision on extending JC is somewhat tied to whether he and Capela show they play well together, right? Hope they do some fast gellin. 1

The decision to extend Collins does not have to be made this off season. It's an option, but that decision does not have to be made.

If you aren't going to pay him more than $12M, you should think long and hard about not extending this off season since it will end up reducing your cap space compared to signing the same contract after next year. Popular Post HawkItus
Quote HAWKS 4 hours ago By Chris Vivlamore, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution When the Hawks acquired the injured Clint Capela and Skal Labissiere at the NBA trade deadline, they knew it might take some time before the big men could play. The wait will continue. Coach Lloyd Pierce said it likely will be weeks before Capela and Labissiere see the court. There had been some hope that the two might return following the All-Star break. However, when the Hawks return Thursday against the Heat, both are listed as out. Capela, a center, is out with right calcaneus contusion/plantar fasciitis. Labissiere, a forward/center, is out with a left knee chondral injury. Both did not practice Tuesday and Wednesday as the Hawks got back to work for the final 26 games of the season. Capela is doing some court work, but moving gingerly. Labissiere is closer to a return. *** Make no mistake, Pierce wants to see what Capela can do alongside his Core Five of Trae Young, John Collins, Kevin Huerter, De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish. The coach met with the young group following practice Wednesday to talk about the final stretch of the season. What they could accomplish with Capela added to the mix was part of that conversation. “We know what we have in Clint,” Pierce said. “He’s a double-double. He’s a rim runner. He’s an unbelievable pick-and-roll threat at the rim, which ties right in to what we do. We don’t have to see it. It’s there. When we get him at Clint Capela full capability, we should be excited both offensively and defensively. Rebounding is an area of concern for us. He’s one of the best rebounders in the league. We are a pick-and-roll team with the amount of pressure we put at the rim, one of the best in the league. To see a sample size is great. To expect more, I’m not.” https://www.ajc.com/sports/basketball/hawks-newly-acquired-capela-will-miss-thursday-game/EECquCZFUS9GA4D96Z80xJ/ (Remember to link the article and only use excerpts - AHF)
