JTB
I don’t think there’s any issues with fit offensively with John Collins and capela whatsoever. I’m not sure why that’s even being argued among some posters. the offense is the easiest part to get working. It’s the defense that we have absolutely no clue about. If capela does his part defensively as expected will this really improve Collins defense as a 4???....that’s what in my opinion Schlenk and staff will be mostly focused on. This is Collins chance to bring the defense big time! ....good signs that he’s already an Slightly improved defender this season so he’s already gotten better without capela being on the floor so I’m feeling somewhat confident that JC is going to show us some defense we haven’t seen from him....but We already know he’s damn good offensively, him and capela WILL work offensively don’t worry about that. when originally making this post ....and I will say it again if Collins doesn’t show great improvement defensively with capela on the floor (which I believe he will).....despite his stellar offensive numbers I can’t see Schlenk giving him a contract that he’s going to be expecting in 2021. Which will result to both sides unable to come to terms reports. Collins clock is ticking to show what he’s all about defensively.

It's when he plays the 5 where he gets exposed. He's not playing himself at the 5.

The data says that whenever he has to guard a big body, even if they aren't scorers, he gets killed on the boards by those guys. ( LOL . . I sound like my boss, talking about "data". But she's right. I can hear her now . . . "So what does the data say?" ). On the flip side, he's just fine offensively at the 5, because he can bring those bigger guys out and either shoot from the outside or get to the rim via the pick and roll. But the problem is on defense. Edited February 26, 2020 by TheNorthCydeRises

It's definitely not a good thing but I see what supes is saying i think. at the 4 it seems like he's more likely to get taken off the dribble or give up perimeter shots to the guy he's guarding or lose his man. With Capela back there though maybe it'll help him.

This is why I really want to see Capela playing this year for a good stretch of games. This should give us a worst-case baseline leaving the summer to tweak and train for next year. That will give us a great glimpse of evaluation (end of this season+early next season) for TS to decide on long-term fit.
Moderators Popular Post macdaddy Posted February 26, 2020 Moderators Popular Post Report Share Posted February 26, 2020 Collins seems like one of the few underrated players by the board. I'm guessing there is more of a correlation between big games from Collins and wins than most other players on the Hawks. I got nothing to back that up.

We got destroyed on the boards by them. 1 hour ago, macdaddy said: Collins seems like one of the few underrated players by the board. Collins is definitely underrated, and I'll say underutilized. Collins, for the most part, can and will get it done offensively. But in this offensive scheme, coach wants to maximize the offensive versatility from a shooting standpoint by putting him at the 5, and surrounding him with wings. Problem is, we don't shoot nearly well enough to pull this off, nor are we a physical enough team defensively to try to play small and win. Deandre Hunter, specifically, cannot keep being asked to play the 4 against guys who simply overpower him in the paint going for rebounds. Trae's shooting, specifically, is the key to everything in this offense at this moment. And even that doesn't matter at times. Defensively, we have to try to stay as big as possible, so that 2nd chance points do not kill us.

He should embrace that and he should continue to work at it the way he’s been working at it.”

Premium Member JayBirdHawk Posted February 29, 2020 Premium Member Report Share Posted February 29, 2020 I would like to think so (our record definitely wouldn't be as putrid), but we still had the trio of Turner, Crabbe, Parsons with Len and Jones at Center and no real backup PG. 3

High5
I've only had the chicken biscuit from Bojangles, but it was way better than CFA's. Unfortunately there's not one near me.
