JJJ with his D and outside shooting would be interesting and would be a great for with Trae and Clint but  I wouldn’t throw a first in there too.  JC and Kev is equal or ever a little better.  I guess the extra is due to JC being up for a big contract.

This one's for @kg01

Hawks/Spurs (Spurs looking to cut salary and rebuild)

Hawks 2020 1st (not top 3) for Dejounte Murray (4yrs/14,15,16,17 ), Spurs 2020 #11, Patty Mills (1yr/13 mil) and Rudy Gay (1yr/14 mil).

PG - Trae/Mills/Goodwin

SG - Huerter/Murray/Bembry

SF - Hunter/Reddish/#11 pick?

PF - Collins/Gay/Skal

C - Capela/Dedmon/Bruno

(Who would you take at #11??)

Mills and Gay are expiring which allows us to keep our 2021 capspace options in play.

(Edit: I'd also be williing to include the OKC 2022 1st if SAS wants more but there should be a cost with taking on the $27 million owed to Gay and Mills.)

We can absorb all that?  I'm in.

I'm just talking out of my rear but that seems like you are really underselling Collins here.  My guess is that he isn't a fallback at all and that the fallback is what to do if he wants a true max deal and won't take a salary TS is happy with.  Not untouchable but the plan is to keep him.

I would be shocked if John is traded before 2021 FA. If John is moved, it will be like the Malcolm Brogdon situation.

All our eggs are in the core-5 taking us there.  Adding quality vets for support is needed.  If we don't believe that this road can get us there then some of those core guys will have to get traded, but that obviously isn't happening right now so got to add the vets.

Indiana definitely feels like they got the better end of that deal by a large margin.

I think so too but the reason I say this is MIL wasn't left empty handed and Brodgon just wasn't worth what he wanted from MIL. Brodgon post DEC production dropped like a ton of bricks while his replacement, Donte D's winning value has more than doubled Brodgon's 5 WAR to 2.4. While Brodgon could help MIL, he wasn't worth the price tag. At the end of the day, MIL is working with a more limited budget due to the quality of depth on their roster, this move made sense for them. Getting a 1st in this year's draft could help them land another quality role player for the future.

When they drafted Donte, I saw the writing on the wall.

I don't think it makes us a contender, but I do think it improves us dramatically.  It's meant to be temporary elevation to (a) help the core learn some winning habits, (b) get some playoff experience, and (c) get attention of prospective free agents.

That imho would put us closer to becoming an actual contender.

The only trade I can think would help us during FA is trading Kevin Huerter and OKC 1st for Buddy Hield.

Already mentioned this one and got shot down by folks. They said Trae/Hield backcourt couldn’t D up.

They are right. It's wouldn't. The question is if Hield is worth adding at a 3rd wing over Kevin as a 3rd wing?

Reddish/Hield

Hunter/???

For me, I rather keep Kevin and signing Joe Harris but what if that's not possible?

Hearter is way more of a team player ... he is good passer and tries on d a little ... hield is about getting shots up.  An undersized shooting guard .   I hate the thought of that backcourt.

Hield is more than an undersized SG. He is an elite movement specialist who can score at will. There is a reason why he's paid what he's paid even if he's overpaid.

I see your point. Kevin is more of a team player, an excellent passer for his position and can also shoot.

Hield is a 6th man who's now been overpaid.  Useful?  Yes.  Worth his contract?  Eh.

I like Heurter but I wouldn't hesitate to trade him for a true upgrade.
