In May 2019, Jeff Peterson left his role as Atlanta Hawks assistant general manager to take a similar role with the Brooklyn Nets. Since that, Hawks president of basketball operations Travis Schlenk has operated without anyone under that title in Atlanta’s front office but, on Wednesday evening, word broke from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that a familiar name will be heading to Atlanta as assistant general manager. Wojnarowski notes that former NBA player and current Austin Spurs general manager Landry Fields is reportedly joining the organization.

Moments later, Sarah Spencer of the AJC confirmed the news, though the Hawks have not made an announcement at this juncture.

Fields began his front office career as a scout for the San Antonio Spurs before becoming a GM in the G League in 2019. Prior to that, the 32-year-old was a second round pick of the New York Knicks in 2010, appearing in 255 career games with the Knicks and Toronto Raptors from 2010 to 2015.

Stay tuned.
