We have a legit roster finally. At least on paper. Still, haven't even had a good on paper team since the playoff days so good stuff.

Sorry for the late post.  It's been a wild nite in the 'sac celebratory blok partee.  We might might've burned @JayBirdHawk house down.  I dunno, I passed out.

Seriously, the Hawks won the offseason?  When does that happen?  You gotta party on that.

Eta. The double-edged sword of it is the national people have to talk about us now, but then it becomes painfully obvious none of them have ever actually watched us play.

So glad we added Bogi, A+ for our offseason. 

Suddenly we are deepest team on he east and is not close. The difference is a superstar, we still don’t have a guy so impactful as Giannis, Butler, Embiid, Tatum.... That guy can be Trae Young, his growth along with Collins and Cam  growth will tell us which playoff spot we will be landing. I think top 4 is a real possibility if Trae and John continue their improvement as they have done and Cam play as last year 2nd half.

The biggest uncertainty for me is coaching, and specially defense. I think we need another big to have answers for dominant centers. Skal or Demon please

It’s hard to project this roster because it is a dramatic shift.  One thing the rest of the league and talking heads don’t realize is the Hawks have played close to .500 with Trae and John Collins. Now we’ve had a dream offseason and upgraded.  No telling how good this will get.  
 

Preseason is in about 20 days!

We need to sign him, we need him more than Solomon Hill, we need a 7 footer for big centers as inaurance for Capela. Okongwu and Bruno might not be ready to play on a playoff team.

If we were to look to acquire him, we would  probably need to trade/waive an existing player to free up a roster spot.  That said, would we still be obligated for the $13M salary or would that fall to DET to pay most of it?

I agree. I see Collins playing a lot of 5 come crunch time. That's why I don't understand people initially panicking with the Gallo deal. Gallo and Collins are both going to play a lot of minutes this year.

Yeah I said the same on the depth chart thread, Gallo is going to play 4,  Collins will slide to 5 a lot. But for big centers we need some insurance behind Capela ad Collins might be destroyed on defense depending on the opponent

Detroit pays the difference between the signing team salary and his waived salary.

A bit of clarity on the above numbers. The salary of Okongwu is based off his hold and not what his actual salary will be. These transactions are being processed in this order so we have the room to sign everyone as allowed. Dunn will be finalized last as he'll have to be fit in with an exception.  When all said and done (if I'm calculating this right) we will finish about 4 million over the cap). We will have 15 roster slots and 2 two ways.

I want to preface this by saying that I want Collins to stay and I want to see this roster play before making any more moves. But other than working/hoping to deal Collins, is there any reason not to extend him as this point? We're not projected to have any cap space in '21 so I don't see much of a benefit to waiting until next off season. In fact I think his value can only go up this season, barring any major injuries or further suspensions (I doubt this is a recurring issue).

Well his failed drug test puts us in a strange boat. If he failed another he'd be on a much longer suspension. You don't want to be on the hook for that salary if he's sitting a year and would make him much less tradable at that point. Or catastrophic injury (see Klay Thompson). You wait these things out and sign him at the end of the year if you're confident he's getting the max at the end anyway.
