Free Agency 2020!!

A question.  If you were Giannis, would you rather play with Trae or Luka?  Not a question of who's better.  Who would you rather play with?

To me, Luka/Giannis play the same position.  Basically eat from the same spots on the floor, so it's not as cut and dry as people seem to think it is.

Thoughts?

Team is one of the deepest on NBA and haa some upban coming players that should grow during the season. Size, defense, shooting, we have everyrhing we need.

I don't see any reason why this team should not win more rhan half of the games other than coaching, we improved in all areas, now is coaching time

Let's say it this way: we didn't add defense on the Wings in FREE AGENCY as a top priority based on who was available for top billing (except you can count Hill and Snell as smaller additions), but we added it at the PG position via FAcy. 

The other big add that gets glossed over since the focus in on the FA Bonanza, is the addition of Capela, yes,  he wasn't a FAcy addition, but he is still a new addition to the line up since he has not played one game with the Hawks. Add in Gwu as well if you choose. Also consider the addition of Nate the Great on the coaching side.

Yeah it's hard to keep remembering Capela's basically a '20-'21 addition.  I doubt OO makes an impact this season and that's all right in my book.  But Capela, Dunn, Hunter, and Reddish should be defensive presences to varying degrees.

That's what I've been saying all along, which is why I was so thrilled about what Schlenk did with the 3rd year of Gallinari's deal. By the time they're ready to make a decision on guaranteeing him, we should all know what Reddish and Hunter brings to the table. Same for Huerter backing up Bogdan, especially with a veteran like Snell who can push him as well.

In other words, these aren't the BK, Sund, or Babcock days anymore. The chief reason why we never saw that big payoff from drafting Marvin and the two Joshes was because there was literally NO ONE ON THE ROSTER who could challenge them for minutes, especially after their rookie year; same with Rumeal Robinson and Stacey Augmon back in the day. Those guys all knew that despite Woodson's utter hatred of young players, their spots in the lineup and minutes were as secure as a newborn baby in his/her mother's arms. Ergo, there was no incentive for them to really work on their craft in the offseason, which could explain why most of them looked and played the exact same way as they did entering the league. Think Josh Childress wouldn't have changed the mechanics on that 3rd grade jump shot or Augmon had found a right hand if they actually had to fight for minutes every night?

Agreed.  I said yesterday, this is a 2 year experiment to see which of the young wings will be around for the long haul.  They're gonna either rise to the top or shrink from the challenge. Let's Get it!!!

This should be a separate thread, but I'll hijack..lol

Luka's a great player so he could work with anyone. However, I see what you mean.  Luka does his dirty work at the rim too.

 Trae would give Giannis soo much space, like he's never had in his career.  The fit is more natural with Trae and Giannis.

Poor choice by Schlenk to get Gallinari and Bogdonovic. Atlanta, being a chocolate city/hip hop capital, does not have a fan base that will relate to Euros. Overlooking the marketing angle of your draft picks and/or signings is a dereliction of duty.

It's funny reading the people who are down on the Hawks moves.  The same people who ripped us for "playing guys that didn't deserve minutes" are now ripping us for pickup up guys who'll take minutes away from the young guys they didn't think deserved minutes.

Wait, the same dudes you thought weren't any good ... you now want them to play?

The same people that ripped us for "tanking" are now ripping us for adding to the team and trying to win.

People really overthink the racial stuff. That's not what it's about, and it really irks me when they suggest it is. Whenever a White guy is signed, there's always someone with "well they wanted a White player for marketing", or the inverse for us, "well they didn't want a White player because of marketing." Ugh, just shut up, I hate that crap.

Worst offseason move, by far, is Grant to DET.  Dude is a 9pt/game guy who was made to look good on a loaded DEN team.

What's he gonna do for the Pistons now that he's actually listed on the opposing scouting report?

By the time Cam is due (if he's good enough to get an early extension) Gallo, Snell and Rondo will be gone - that's $39 million. Also the consider the cap may be on the upswing again. Besides if we are good enough and in playoff contention for a top spot in the East...Ressler gotta open that cheque book and PAY the man.
