Official Game Thread: Hawks at Bulls -- At Long Last, The Season Opener!

Not often that a game is over at half time. Usually we were on the losing end of those affairs. Dont want to get carried away, it's one game, but it feels good.

I had my doubts about starting Gallo, but you can't argue with the results. Fortunately Lauri was MIA at the beginning of the game and apparently WCJ sucks now? I just remember him giving us the business before and thinking he had a bright future. Anyway, I'm sure @Peoriabird beat me to the punch on eating crow. 

Trae can't score 30 points on 20 shots a game anymore, so he decides to score 37 on 12 shots. That was a prime Curry-in-a-blowout kind of night, except better. It's just wild that our very first real game in our very first real season of this Hawks era was historically good. The Bulls played like utter trash, but we've played plenty of worse teams on worse nights before. I loved how our guys just knew they were better and went for the kill. 

Don't want them to get too high after this win, but hopefully it gives them just enough rhythm and confidence to finally take it to the Grizz. Can't let them punk us 5 games in a row. Gonna be tough if Capela can't suit up, though.

I'm not sure it would have mattered who was playing in the front court if Trae and the wings shoot and play like they did last night.  Every team looks good when all of their shots go in.

MERRY  CHRISTMAS TO ALL SQUAWKERS !

Nice way to open the season.  Were the Hawks that good?  Or, were the Bulls that bad?  Probably a combination of both.  Now, after Christmas, the first place Hawks travel on to Memphis.  Would be great to come home for our first home game with a 2-0 record.

(Personal note:  Haliburton and the Kings won against Denver last night!)

If the Hawks ever get all their players healthy and available to play we may be kinda good this season.

Good morning Hawks fans!!  I had a dream the Hawks absolutely torched the Bulls in a blowout win (over by half time) and Trae looked like a hybrid of peak Curry/Nash, the sophomores played like NBA starters with a lot of room to get better, and the free agents we picked up were actual NBA players that contributed to our win.  Did anyone catch the game last night?

For what it's worth, one of the comments above reminds me to mention there was an unanticipated KB01 sighting on my Twitter feed yesterday, and turns out, KB01 appears to be a huge racing fan. Didn't know.

Maybe I'm scarred from awful twitter comments but I got really sad for half a second because I thought you were about to say racist, not racing...

What an opener!  I know some tough games are ahead on this schedule but talk about getting off on the right foot.  Should give everyone some confidence and hopefully positive momentum.  Love that Cam started.  Says good things about Bogi having a team mentality and I think it is our future.

And Kong can't get on the floor fast enough for me, so that those of us who were all-in on Haliburton can feel some reassurance.

 

EDIT: I should add... our FA shopping list was almost certainly significantly different by virtue of the Okongwu decision... I had us pegged for pursuing Christian Wood, who is right now that we can hope Okongwu eventually will become. (Hasten to add, Kong might surpass that. We certainly all hope so.) Think what made the decision may have been Okongwu's high-character rep.

Trae in this game had an Ortg of 171 and a Drtg of 102!  Guess he isn't the worst defender in the league anymore

Ja Morant's DRTG is 120 and if it stays that high no one will know since he doesn't play in Atlanta.
