Much has changed in the three weeks since the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Detroit Pistons in the team’s home opener at State Farm Arena. That victory improved Atlanta’s record to 3-0 on the young season but, even after a victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on MLK Day, the Hawks are just 3-7 since knocking off the Pistons. Still, the Hawks have a chance to begin a winning streak on Wednesday and the match-up is favorable for the home team.

In the first meeting on Dec. 28, seven players scored in double figures for the Hawks, including a 29-point effort from Trae Young that included 15-of-15 from the free throw line. There is a path to that kind of success in the follow-up, especially when considering Detroit’s baseline of performance this season.

The Pistons are the first team in the NBA to reach ten losses this season, and they have a bottom-tier net rating of -3.9 points per 100 possessions. Detroit is a strongly below-average team statistically on both ends of the floor and, even with a breakout showing from free agent acquisition Jerami Grant this season, the Pistons are not incredibly talented from a roster standpoint.

As such, the Hawks enter this game as six-point betting favorites — at least at the time of this post — and the expectation will be a win for Atlanta in their home building. It is important to note the injury situation, however, as the Hawks continue to operate without key pieces of their roster.

Bogdan Bogdanovic and Kris Dunn remain sidelined for Atlanta, with Danilo Gallinari not quite ready to return from his ankle issue. Elsewhere, Young (right heel soreness) and De’Andre Hunter (right knee soreness) are listed as probable, with Cam Reddish (left knee contusion) listed as questionable after missing the last two games.

Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest.
