Peachtree Hoops: Hawks go ballistic from deep in 123-107 win over Pelicans

It was raining threes in downtown Atlanta.

The Atlanta Hawks took on the New Orleans Pelicans Tuesday evening, taking home the 123-107 win behind a ridiculous three-point barrage. The Hawks made 20-of-31 threes as a team, shooting a bonkers 64.5% from deep for the game. It was simply one of those nights, and seemingly everyone who lifted up a three seeing it fall through the net.

It was a fast-paced game from the jump, with each team humming offensively in the early going.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair that featured ten lead changes and four ties, with the Pelicans taking a 29-25 lead into the second.

The stars were shining out of the gates, as Zion Williamson led all scorers with 11 first-quarter points, while Trae Young tallied ten points and five assists in the opening period.

Young continued cooking in the second quarter, adding nine more points, giving him 19 points and six assists in the first half.

Atlanta’s offense was humming in the second quarter, as they put up 36 points on 13-of-25 shooting from the floor (5-for-8 from three). The Hawks shot 8-for-13 from three overall in the first half, but couldn’t do much to slow down Williamson and the Pelicans.

Williamson had 16 points at the break as Atlanta and New Orleans were tied at 61 heading into the locker room.

The third quarter was quite preposterous for the Hawks from an offensive perspective. They made 11 (!!) straight threes, shooting 100% from deep in the quarter and setting an NBA record in the process. They outscored the Pelicans 46-29 in the period.

Atlanta went 15-of-20 overall from the floor in the third, taking control of the game and heading to the fourth with a 107-90 lead.

The fourth quarter seemed like a formality, as the Hawks kept drilling from all over the court, eventually taking home the win. It marked the seventh straight win at home for Atlanta.

Young led all Hawks scorers with 30 points (6-of-7 from 3PT) to go along with 12 assists, while Bogdan Bogdanovic had 21 points (8-of-11, 5-of-8 from 3PT) and four assists of his own. Kevin Huerter had 17 points on 7-of-11 (3-of-4 from 3PT) shooting from the floor.

Williamson finished with 34 points and five rebounds for New Orleans, with Lonzo Ball tallying 12 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds.
