Official Game Thread: Grizzlies at Hawks

Okongwu 13 points (6-12 fg) 11 boards (6 offensive) 2 blocks and a dime in 32 minutes and his first start. Not too shabby for a 20 year old.

Bounce back against the Bulls on Friday Hawks! Shore up the defense and swing the ball like last night.

OO got his double double..

6 offensive boards was pretty cool out of his 11 boards. It really helps when you have Trae on off nights, gives you second chances but not tonight.

Trae fell into the trap of playing 1 on 1 a bit and trying to take it to Grayson too much. 6-17 isn’t good. Pass the ball and forget about that clown 🤡 Trae, he’s just an agitator. 🤦

No he didn't.  He played exactly like he's been playing recently.

The Grizzlies defense was just very good on Trae, Bogi, and Huerter.  They took away the alley-oop with Valanciunas sagging back, and Trae's man always fought over the screen and trailed Trae from behind.

If you ask me, he didn't assert himself on offense enough.   He had 11 assists, so him passing more wasn't the issue.

He needed to see if he could get his offense going, especially from deep.   17 shots with only 1 trip to the FT line, is an indication that either the defense was too good, or he didn't want to force up shots that he can make on occasion.

Problem is, he didn't get those boards when the game was in the balance.  He was the only one around the rim going for offensive rebounds, and he couldn't get them with Valanciunas in the game.   Had Nate gone with both Okongwu and Knight starting, we may have had a chance to get more offensive rebounds.

He would have had to have gone completely nuclear. Our defense was trash, they were getting whatever they wanted.

The next area of development is OO's defense. Valanciunus was feasting all night against him.

He's going to have to bulk up and add at least 10 lbs of muscle to his frame.

But Valanciunas is a tough cover for anybody.  He's just so big.  ( 6 - 11 . . 265 lbs )

This game was great for OO17. We need to see if he can secure that back center spot before the playoffs start. He took the next step in his progression.
