NBA: Playoffs-Atlanta Hawks at Philadelphia 76ers
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks will take on the Philadelphia 76ers Friday evening, looking for a win and a series lead in a pivotal Game 3. The Hawks and Sixers split two games in Philadelphia before traveling south.

The Hawks took a huge lead in Game 1, and wound up holding on after a wild finish. Philadelphia controlled most of Game 2, while the Hawks did mount a third quarter run before faltering late.

So far through two games, Atlanta has no answer for Joel Embiid, who was allegedly injured coming into the series. He hasn’t look hindered in the slightest by his partially torn meniscus, totaling 79 points in the first two games of the series.

After getting torched for 35 points and 10 assists by Trae Young in Game 1, the Sixers made adjustments heading into Game 2. Defensive Player of the Year candidate Ben Simmons took on the primary assignment of defending Young, and Philadelphia was able to do a better job of keeping him in check in the second game.

The Hawks will look to extend their 13-game home winning streak on Friday, a streak that dates back to April. State Farm Arena will assuredly be buzzing, and Atlanta will look to rally the troops in front of their home fans in Game 3.

Injuries

De’Andre Hunter (meniscus tear) will miss the remainder of the postseason as he is set for surgery this weekend. Cam Reddish (Achilles) has yet to progress to 5-on-5 and remains out for Atlanta. Kris Dunn (non-covid illness) will be active for the first time this series in Game 3. Brandon Goodwin (respiratory illness) remains out.

For the Sixers, Joel Embiid (knee) is again listed as questionable, but it feels safe that he suits up again for Game 3 after back-to-back standout performances for Philadelphia to open the series.

The Line

The Sixers open as 1-point favorites over the Hawks as of early Friday morning. A potential Embiid absence would obviously swing things drastically, but aside from that, expect Philadelphia to be a slight favorite Friday evening.
