Trae has had plenty of opportunities to play off the ball but doesn't.  He sprints back to the ball handler to get the ball out of his teammate's hands

Hate to agree but this is fairly accurate.   Can't have it both ways.  If he wants to play offball, he's had chances.

Plus the team operates better when he's hoggin a bit.

Not to mention he(as well as most of the team) half assess it off the ball. They don't cut or set screens for each other.

This kind of play should be consistently done but we've only used it once.

I like Chris Haynes very much (for some reason 🤷‍♀️ he’s got a Brian Cox former NFL speaking tone about him :indifferent: I didn’t really like Cox tho so go figure :sarcastic:

I think Rayford is wrong about his son. He said he’s a better catch and shoot player than off the dribble? Do you all agree with that?

i have no idea really lol... i do feel like when the rare pass comes to trae and he shoots in rhythm im very confident it will go in.  I don't know if that means anything though haha

Somewhat of a chicken or egg issue imo... like how is Trae going to play off-ball with the current ball handlers we have?  Delon Wright picks up his dribble when he feels any pressure whatsoever, Kevin can dribble twice before he's at risk of turning it over, Bogi is O.K. but usually shoots as soon as he touches the ball, and Lou is pretty much out of the league.  Trae is clearly trying to trust guys to handle more and more in the last few games, but for most of the season, it wasn't even possible.

Y'all act like we have to have Magic Johnson on this team for Trae to play off the ball.  other teams do it all of the time without dribbling specialist like Milwaukee last night.  Giannis ain't no Magic Johnson but he has the ball in his hands a lot.

You're hyperbolizing my comment, and you would also be the first to trash Heurter for turning it over 4x a game if we asked him to start dribbling and creating more.

Maybe because we don't have a single player on the roster outside of Trae capable of consistently creating offense for themselves and others.

You don't need a 2 Trae youngs.  The bench has created more offense than the starters in the last few games without Trae in the game

He didn’t exactly say that Trae wants to play off the ball. Just that his dad said he’s better at catch and shoot than off the dribble. He certainly doesn’t act like someone who has any interest in playing off ball, but that could be a product of not trusting his teammates.

There are other ways to generate offense rather than having a guy running pick and roll like Iso.  We do it all of the time with Gallo.  We can do it with John as well.

He turns the ball over 4 times as much as any other teammate.  Maybe it should be the other way around.

It would be nice for him to get under 4 a game, but 4.1 for someone who creates the largest percentage of his team’s offense in the league isn’t terrible.

Gallo and John posting up is not going to get Trae open looks.  Those guys don't demand double teams and even if they did, it wouldn't be Trae left open.
