Hunter at PF...  New Subthread.

I think we shouldn't pursue the Hunter at PF anymore.  He's no SG either.   I would rather see sorry NoKnox hit the floor than to see Hunter play the 4.  He becomes a net neutral there.

Moreover, I think we need some new offensive coordination that can actually get something out of our PF position.   If it's JC, we can kinda use him like Cleveland uses Love.

This year at age 33, Love put up about 6.4 3pter per game.   Even though his scoring average was not that high, I would like to see more PNP with JC (if he's still here) and some more set 3 pters taken.

I've been a staunch defender of Bogi and JC and will continue to remain so. Bogi plays the game the exact right way to me on offense. He looks for his shot without being a chucker or throwing off the entire offense to just go get his. He looks for other guys and will pass off if there's a better shot. When his knee isn't bothering him he also plays much better on defense to what is basically league average defense in modern NBA.

But I can't see Bogi coming back unless he's the starter again. The SG position is the one most likely to see a Bogi plus something else to try and find an upgrade and the leftover from Bogi/Kev becoming our new sixth man.

JC is the heart and soul of the team. He's much better than you want to give him credit for. He can be a lob threat, he can hit three's at around 40% which is fantastic for a stretch four and he's an above average defender. All of those are things you want on your team.

However with the team determined to find another star player to put next to Trae you have to give something to get something. JC and CC are easily the most valuable non Trae Hawks. OO as well but it would have to be a doozy of a trade to get the Hawks to move OO.

That's why I'm saying I personally from what I have heard and what's been discussed with the other insiders leads me to a personal conclusion that two of Bogi, JC and CC are probably gone in the offseason. Hunter is also 50/50 to me, again this is personal conclusion not being directed told this, on coming back or being traded for an upgrade.

I agree with every single point in here.

I can't not see:

JC/Bogi/ and a Beavy of Picks for DMitch and Oneal.

The other thing is Gallo for Pat Bev?

I really don't like the people bashing Huerter's defense. He's constantly asked to guard the hardest cover on the floor when Hunter isn't playing and if not, the 2nd hardest.

I agree with most of what you said but i think Huerter gets passes on defense that others dont'.  I'm not sure why.   Maybe because he's tall he's thought of as a good defender but if you're the starting wing you better be able to guard the best or 2nd best player on the court.  If you can't then you better be bringing it offensively.

Hunter at PF would be fine if we had better perimeter defenders. But we don't.

I believe whatever upgrade we see will be at the SG position.   With probably Bogi being used in Trade.  Said upgrade will push Kev to the bench.

Hunter doesn't defend physically enough to be a PF.   That's the learned lesson.

Call me crazy but being a glue guy was really helpful for the Hawks last year. They (again) had too many people interested in getting theirs, not willing to do the little things.  Kev isn't perfect and like I said, there's enough interest out there he might get traded in the off-season. I don't get the hate, Superman praise isn't warranted either.  He's a very average NBA starter. It is what it is. But bagging on him at this point isn't really profitable.  My 2 cents.

Yeah.  That's pretty much the way i feel.   I do think it was a mistake not putting Bogi back in the starting rotation toward the end of the season but i also don't know how hampered he was with the knee.

At the end of the day neither option was that great this season which is why i think this is the #1 priority position to upgrade.  I love Kev but just want him coming off the bench.   He could start but it would need to be next to a more aggressive player.  Which to me is why Bogi/Kev worked great in 2021.

Hunter is due for an extension so I don’t see him on the roster next year.

I think Schlenk needs to swing for these guys using (in no particular order) the chips we have:

Malcom Brogdon

Donovan Mitchell

Rudy Gobert

DeAndre Ayton

Zion (if he wants max and NO is forced to SNT)

Any other primary targets out there that are feasible? (work via trade on and combo of JC Bogi Hunter Huerter)

Also, I’m not talking about role players because we have some. I think Delon is signed on bird rights.

I didn’t list Simmons because I think 1000% Sean marks will wait until 1-2 years of his nonsense before dumping him off for scrubs.

Gallo I’m inclined they can’t find a partner and they waive and resign for the tax MLE

So the Gallo thing. There's a good chance he takes his 5 mil guaranteed then heads back to Europe. He'd be pretty dominant there, would start and is extremely popular. He might make more going back to the Euro League than signing here.  He's also highly valued here and would be considered an excellent MLE, vet min pickup for a top 4-6 team chasing a chip.  That's kind of where I see him going.

Haha..

Cam took that crap to NY and Thibs showed him what the end of the bench looks like.

I’m really disappointed in the way Cam turned out so far. It’s soooo early that I’m sure he’s gonna find some nitch in the league being a specialist if he’s lucky. But man, how does someone with his talent level just become a specialist and that’s now probably his ceiling, at best.

From he himself saying all that he saw when he looked in the mirror was a star ⭐

to..

Robert Covington ceiling hopes.. sad.

ps I still have his first Hawks jersey I got a month or two after the 2019 draft.. ugh.. high hopes fell again. First Marvin then Cam.

Oh I think he's on the Julius Randle / Bobby Portis track.  Randle just didn't "get it" until late 20's then bam. Portis flipped a switch from gonna get mine to just gonna get filthy.

Cam has too much talent to not figure it out eventually.

My take on Hunter..

While we’re at it.. Collins, Gallo, Bogi, Huerter, Capela.. if the price is right, pull the trigger, if they are lowballing us, keep it going. Just like BPA when drafting. Don’t make deals to make deals; cliche yes, however teams still do this to appease the fanbase.

We have Trae, and a hungry young OO, to me, that’s our foundation moving forward, we build around what works with those two.

One a stat guy obviously in Trae and another a no stat guy in OO. I don’t care which you are but bring something to the core. Whether it’s a big grinder like the old Trez or a combo guard or whatever but it’s time for a RETOOL now.

For me, I was with Schlenk, this group earned to run it back with the ECF performance, but now we move on.
