I hope you offensive junkies are watching the playoffs closely this year!

It should be apparent that finesse teams don't have a chance in todays NBA because all of remaining teams are bringing it on defense.  Nate you better wake up and put in some sound defensive scheme to compete in the future.  All this talk about some #2 creator bs gets nullified in the playoffs.  Just ask KD/Irving, Kat/Edwards, Paul/Booker, Morant/Banes, Lavine/Derozen, Hardin/Embiid, Igram/McCollum, Mitchell/Conley etc.  You need depth and versatility in today's playoffs but most of all you need defense!!  So if Schlenk consolidates this roster by giving up valuable depth while Nate continues to play just 7 players even when things are not going well, this team will forever be on the treadmill!

I still think we need a second creator or scorer but I wouldn’t be mad if Schlenk went full defensive overhaul if he feels that’s the best route to move forward and I mean full defensive overhaul surrounding Trae of course.

I think the point you made on needing versatility is a goal that Schlenk has been trying to do since he’s been here but it’s easier said than done of course.

I don’t think anyone has to worry about Schlenk consolidating depth to get a second star unless Schlenk and the Front Office agrees to some kind of small rebuild which is unlikely.

many of the players we are rumored for can be a 2 for 1 deal. Like Capela + Bogi for Gobert or in Aytons case Capela for Ayton would work in a SnT I believe. Im good as long as Schlenk feels very strong about the whatever player we are acquiring in a trade.

Or we could ask Tatum/Brown Luka/Brunson or Steph/Klay.   Sure Miami is there but they have 3 guys who are probably better offensive players than our #2.

But you also just listed out that nearly EVERY team in the playoffs has 2 offensive stars so.....

Brown didn't do Jack last night

Brunson ain't even an all star...neither was Klay

This is a strawman.

What you can say about all the teams remaining is they have multiple two way players/3 and D players.

Versatility gets you deep in the playoffs, not just defense or all offense.  You need both.

I created an entire thread about this very thing.

The entire idea is to outscore your opponent by whatever means possible.  If you play outstanding defense, it is still necessary to score more than your opponent.  If you have outstanding offense, you must still stop your opponent from scoring more,

Hawks didn't.  Porous defense + poor offense = early exit from the playoffs.

🧑‍🔧Needs fixin'

Defense leads to offense...we saw that on full display in that decisive 3rd quarter!

I think we all agree both are needed.  Making buckets improves your defense by limiting transition opportunities.

The Bucks have by far the best defensive rating in the postseason.  2 points better than the heat.  But their offensive rating was worse than the Hawks and second to last in the playoffs.   They had elite defense but it didn't matter in the end because Middleton went down and they didn't have an elite wing scorer.

So wait..you are saying the Heat defense didn't shut down Trae? Or that their defense didn't determine last night's game?

Wasn't  Utah.. a defensive team?

Wasn't Philly a defensive team?

Wasn't  Minny a defensive team?

Wasn't Milwaukee a defensive team?

You need BOTH...

IF Good defense were it, then Cleveland would have made the playoffs and would still be playing.  And they were a good offensive team.  They just had to play us when we were less injured.

This is playoffs...

Still doesn't give you the best of pictures.. because there's an offensive component that is necessary.

So wait..you are saying the Heat defense didn't shut down Trae? Or that their defense didn't determine last night's game?

I'm saying the Bucks had elite defense in the postseason and good offense and got eliminated.

But i think you can have elite offense and good defense and contend.
