Prediction of the Year: Hawks will finish the season 19 - 6 with 46 wins!

It's that time of the year folks. After seeing our Hawks flounder and be inconsistent all year, the schedule has finally opened up for us to make the big run we've all been waiting for.

17 of the last 25 games are at HOME!  That's right!  Good ol Phili . . . err . . . State Farm Arena!

Despite the Hawks being 13 - 11 at home so far this year, now is the time that the run happens.  And the run ALWAYS happens after the All-Star break.

  • Whether it be a team that should tank, but they win 6 of their final 11 games ( led by Bobby Sura )
  • Or a team that should tank, but Woody wants his young team to taste the playoffs, so they win 11 out of 15 from Mid March - Mid April to face Boston as an 8th seed
  • Or its that same team 2 years later, that go on a magical run in March by seeing buzzer beater winners by J-Craw, JJ, and even a tip slam buzzer beater by Smoove
  • Or it's a 60 win team that actually "cooled off", but still won 17 of their final 27 games.
  • Or it's the run the Hawks have made the past 2 seasons, going on big runs ( 27 - 11 in 2021 . . . 24 - 12 in 2022 ) that got them into the playoffs/play-in.

This season, the Hawks are poised to do what those other teams have done.  Finish strong and get into the playoffs.

So let's break it down in the next post.

It all starts here!  You go back home and you have 7 of your next 8 games at home.  Phoenix is healthy, so that will be a tough game.  But look at the rest of the schedule.  A mix of playoff teams and squads who are out of playoff contention for the most part.

At minimum, the Hawks MUST go 6 - 2 in this stretch.  No back to backs.  Great games on the docket.  ALL of these games are winnable, and to be honest, we should be favored in every game ( unless Durant is back ).

If this team plays like we know they're capable of playing, we could go 7 - 1 or even run the table.

If we do run the table, that immediately puts us in contention to be in 6th, and within an earshot of 5th.

In the league's best attempt to screw the Hawks, they came up with the great idea to schedule back to back 2 game road games vs Miami and Washington.  Of course, the Miami games are smack dab in the weekend, for ultimate distraction.  The Washington games follow.

Anything less than 2 - 2 here, will kill any chance of getting to that 19 and 6 . . err . . 19 - 8 record.  The Hawks have been solid on the road for the most part, hovering around the .500 mark most of the season.  Continue that trend, and the Hawks could be winners of 8 of their next 12 games up to this point.

If you want to go to a Hawks game, go during March.  Marquee level games up and down the schedule during this 11 game stretch.

If the team is playing well, there's no reason why the Hawks can't go 8 - 3 during these stretch of games.  Road games at Minnesota and Brooklyn will be tough, but they're winnable games.  At home, we have teams that could potentially be playing in the NBA Finals, or at the very least, represent their conference in the Conference Finals.

So the Hawks have to be more than on point during the most critical part of the season.  A mediocre or losing record here, could indicate that the Hawks are hanging on for dear life for the 6th seed.  But if we can go 8 - 3, that will put us in position to take that 5th spot.

The final 4 games to close the year, should see us go 4 - 0, unless we're locked into a playoff spot.  Philly and Boston will be resting key guys, unless they're battling for playoff position.  Chicago will be in full tank mode, trying to position themselves for a better draft pick.  Washington is the wild card, because they could still be in contention for the play-in game.

At worse, we're 3 - 1 in the final 4 games of the season.  But we should go 4 - 0.

AND THERE YOU HAVE IT!

The pathway to the Hawks finishing the season on a 19 - 8 run, and get to 46 wins.

  • 6 - 2 in the next 8 games
  • 2 - 2 in the road games vs our Southeast Division rivals
  • 8 - 3 during the home gauntlet that sees us playing some of the top teams in the NBA
  • 3 - 1 in the final 4 games, with the goal of going 4 - 0 to close out the year.

Let's see how the Hawks do the rest of the way.  Maybe something dramatic happens between now and Thursday evening.  But even if it doesn't, this team is overdue to put on a good run.  And I believe . . no . . I KNOW they can do it.

Nope

We are the most mid team ever in the NBA, 41-41 is pretty much our destiny. Every time we think we have turned the corner we go on a losing streak. We can beat the best team in the NBA and get blown out by the worst team in the NBA in the same week. This team is frustrating and near impossible to enjoy.

I hope next year with a new coach and some tweaks we can be a good team again.
