We just don't have the shooting.  Our starting lineup is bad enough and we compound it by playing Capela.  Just pack the paint, double Trae and watch us throw up bricks.

Capela cannot play with this squad.  He's not good enough at the other things anymore to justify the playing time.  I'll take Nance over him.  We have to have shooting.

Nate didn't accomplish anything with his system.  LP system got us to the ECF.  And Quin's system is 8 games in and you're already talking like it's a failure lol... was always going to take time and with half our rotation out with sore muscles it's going to take longer to build that chemistry.

8 games in? Quinn has coached this team for over 100 games. What was Nate's record after 100 games? Nate went 42-39 had us top 2 in orating, with a team of Trae, John  Collins, Capela, Hunter, and Bogi + trash, his last full season before Quinn took over. We have argueably more talent last year and couldn't win 35 games. Our offense has yet at any point to get anywhere close to the level of production that we were getting with Nate. Our defense has only gotten worse. I'm fully aware a lot of it is Clint's regression and our front office selling useful pieces for "cap room", but at the end of the day what have we showed under Quinn? Nothing.

FYI, by the end of this year Quinn will have had more games as Atlanta HC than Nate got. I'm not saying expectation should be for this team to be a well oiled machine at this point, but we have gotten worse almost month by month every single month since Quinn took over. After 100 games how can you not be disappointed by that?

Sunday our starters absolutely obliterated the Pels.  4 starters registering +20 plus.

Monday we get blown out by the Celtics and suddenly the starters are playing too much.  Celtics have better players at almost every position, better depth, better shooting, pretty much everything.

The Pels were missing 4 starters though..

I mean that same team got spanked by the lowly Blazers last night..

Exactly.  Our starters are light years better than the Pelicans bench.   We are much much worse than the celtics starters and in all honesty a lot of their bench.   Our bench playing more isn't going to beat celtics starters.

I think a better way to look at it is this.  I've always had a theory that the team who has 2 of the 3 best players on the floor usually wins a playoff series.  If we look at the Hawks Celtics I'd say at least 7 of the best 10 players between the two teams are Celtics.

Took my 10-yo son to his first college game last night so missed the Hawks.  Doesn't seem like I missed much.  Was there any good to come from the game?  Care to give a synopsis of the Hawks highlights?

Spoiler

OO did more that Cardio this game.  We had a size advantage and didn't take advantage of pounding the ball inside, shot too many 3s to try and match Boston.  We can't hit 3s, while the other team can.  Different game, same problem.

Capela???

There's a reason we tried to shop Capela so hard-- he cannot play Quin ball.  No ability to put it in the floor, cannot shoot outside 0 feet, cannot switch, cannot really do anything but play drop coverage.  @Atlantaholic This is a good example why I defend Quin and his system that he earnestly implemented this year, not last year where we had a fundamentally broken roster.

Nate had a perfectly fitting roster year 1 and we maxed it out, hitting a ceiling of .500 ball spamming PnR and drop coverage.  Then he staggered Young and Murray to maximize season results in year 2.  He had no vision for a lasting, winning, franchise-- just min-maxing results in every season, every game.  That's why he refused to play rookies or young guys.  He coached a lot how ppl talk on here, only caring about single games or this years season record.

Quin is putting something in place that will yield results every year, with a focus on development and getting better.  I don't know how successful he will be or will not be, but we aren't going to find out 8 games into this season.  If we are not a top 6 seed next year, I'll start to worry.  We have young players, not guys in their primes.  Our 3 best players are 26, 22, and 21.

Not sure this improved much under Quin last year:

Nate 2022-23

2022 1st Round Pick

AJ Griffin - 1401 minutes

Quin 2023-24

2023 1st Round Pick

Kobe Bufin - 196 minutes

(And, yes, I agree that the way Nate handled Jalen was a big mistake.  More saying that he played the rookie he liked plenty of minutes.)

Also for those who like their dark humor, take note that the Celtics game marked the passing of Zacc and Bufkin.  Risacher now has more career minutes played than Kobe just 8 games into his career.

After 8 games, ZR has 205 minutes.

After 90 games, Bufkin has 196 minutes.
