    Quit crying!

Can't do: Rebound. Play with power. Stretch out and run the court (he runs like his knees are loosely tied together). Even though he jumps around and waves his hand when playing the wing in a zone, he can't guard anybody. Make good decisions on defense. Gain any ground with his patty-cake cross-over dribble.

Must do: Spend the off-season in the weight room until he's tough enough to welcome body contact, especially on defense. Develop an explosive cross-over move and some kind of spin move. Put some more dipsy-doo in his offense, especially in the paint. Play with as much intensity off the ball as he does with the ball. Do his crying in the postgame locker room.

  2. So the league is talking about "tweaking" rules and eliminating some of the 850 false-start penalties that were called last year. I'm in favor of that. There are too many inconsequential penalties, because, let's face it, you could call a penalty on every play.

But what is really interesting is the talk about holding penalties. Said an Associated Press story -- "The committee also is considering recommending to officials that they make sure there was holding on a play before throwing a flag.

'We want to make sure they actually see the foul,' said Atlanta general manager Rich McKay, co-chairman of the league's competition committee."

Let me get this straight: Refs were calling holding penalties and without actually seeing the infraction? And that's OK? That's excusable?

    That's ridiculous ...

  3. While it's not NASCAR, Carmelo Anthony will be a co-owner of the Hemelgarn team in the Indy Racing League, a partnership designed in part to broaden the series' appeal to a younger generation of race fans.

On another note, American speedskater Shani Davis became the first African American to win an individual gold medal in the Winter Games when he raced to victory in the 1000m.

And I ask you, Are the winter Olympics behind the times also or is there just a lack of interest in particular sports?

  4. Teams are allowed to re-sign their own free agents and then trade them immediately. This is an attractive option for three reasons. First, teams that may lose an unrestricted free agent for nothing are able to get players in return if they choose to do a sign-and-trade. Second, free-agent players, in many cases, can get the most money only from a re-signing. Third and most importantly, it allows teams that are over the salary cap to sign players for more than the mid-level exception if they can find a willing partner.

  5. NFL.com reports

Quarterback Michael Vick has bailed out the Falcons before -- and he could be on the verge of doing it again.

The Falcons and Vick have been engaged in talks to restructure the quarterback's contract to provide Atlanta with more of the salary-cap space it needs.

Of course, both sides are waiting to see what happens with the CBA first, before signing off on anything. But Vick is ready and waiting to do what it takes to help the Falcons get back to the top of the NFC South.

The Falcons also are trying to restructure the contract of running back Warrick Dunn. Those two players could provide the room Atlanta needs to come up with a pair of safeties and a defensive right end.

I's rate the chances of that happening right up there with the U.S. allowing a company from the United Arab Emirates to be in charge of some our busiest ports!

So there is a good chance.
