  1. I like to point out, though no one seems to care. The superstars we missed out on aren't even playing on their original teams now. Also, were their original teams better than the Atlanta Hawks over that same time period. Why would we think that any of those guys would have stayed a Hawk.

  2. Does it matter. ASG is trash and they don't have the slightness clue. I am about to drop this team. I can't stand this much longer. This is too much. Even the Clippers figured it out finally.

How did the Clippers figure it out? They have two supposed super stars and we have none. They have the point guard (Chris Paul) that everyone says we should have drafted. Plus, they have a high flying dunker (we have one of those also), in Blake Griffin. They got swept in the second round.
  3. Dominique Wilkens, Deion Sanders, Michael Vick and Hank Aaron where all superstars. And the only one that could create sell-outs was Vick. And none of them brought Atlanta a championship. The Cleveland Cavilers and The Orlando Magic tried building and buying a championship around their superstars and it didn't work. Dallas put together a high priced championship team and they already have started letting players leave. Unless you are in a big market, you can't maintain the cost of always competing for championships. Look how long it took the high spending Knicks to get their act together. They were spending money and they still sucked.

  4. I'm sorry guys. My smart phone was determined to make me look dumb. But to respond to Mac Daddy. Why is it a dumb question? I wanted to know if anyone had already brought up the fact that if the Atlanta Hawks had drafted any of the above players. Said player would no longer be an Atlanta Hawk. I don't think the ownership here could have convinced either of the point guards to stay in Atlanta. At least the players we have drafted were willing to resign. Everyone wants to complain about who we could have drafted, but let's be honest. If we had drafted a superstar player, he would be playing in New York or L.A. by now. So I'm going to be happy with the players we do have and cheer them on to victory. I remember watching the Braves lose 100 games a year. I remember the Hawks only winning 13 games one year. I remember the Atlanta Falcons never having back to back winning season. Right now as an Atlanta Sports fan. I'm pretty happy! Go Hawks!

  5. Woody, the one thing that this fan base CANNOT take away from you, is that it was YOU who had a hand in making this franchise relevant again. You maybe couldn't take us to championship level, but then again, no coach in Atlanta Hawk history hasn't been able to do it either. So thanks for being a part of the organization for the last 6 years. When NO ONE wanted this coaching job, you took it. And kept a level head throughout all of the ownership BS.

Good luck wherever you go Woody. And thanks.

This song is dedicated to you.

I agree with your post. I think Woody Helped this franchise. We may be missing him very soon.

  6. He was held and pushed at the same time by two guys, but that was great because it gave Smoove a free run at the basket.

No way I want to see a game end on stupid off-ball foul, though, even if it was in our favor. That is really weak. Good no-call.

Didn't the Hawks lose a game to Lebron when he was touch fouled with time expiring

  7. It's amazing how different the reaction around here is when the criticism comes from Al instead of Joe.

Not for nothing, but there have been many occasions I've seen Al put his head down and take a heavily contested shot against 2 defenders with Marvin/Bibby/Mo/someone else wide open on the perimeter. That doesn't make him a selfish player, because you frankly expect your center to do that when he gets the ball down low. But you also expect your shooting guard to shoot when they get the ball and think they can get off a shot. The problem is that we have a coach that has shooting guards initiate the offense instead of PGs - they get more assists than most SGs, but fewer than most PGs. So we shouldn't be shocked when the shooting guards shoot, and it makes little sense to blame them for not being able to magically transform their mentality into that of a PG.

But we have games where Smoove leads the team in assist and he is not a guard.

  8. Center Al Horford said the problem often has been ball movement.

"That really falls on the guys that are running our team," he said. "The guards have the ball in their hands. They control the game, and that's something they have to kind of realize."

The kid has a pair of brass balls!

  9. Did anyone else notice that Mario West was being held down by two Orlando players on the last play of the game? I'm willing to bet that if Smoove hadn't made that great play, the fouls on West would not have been called.

  11. No one has a clue what the hell would have happened had we drafted Paul. It's the easiest game known to man. What game is that?? The Blame Game after the fact. Oh, this also regarding the topic>> :beathorse:

I just started the post because I was tired of hearing about the Hawks not having a Chris Paul. I'm glad we didn't draft him or Deron. Chemistry and team depth win championships not just superstars! Even the great Jordan, Magic and Bird had great players around them!

  12. I was thinking about Chris Paul's contract of 14 million and I'm happy the Hawks did not draft him. If the Hawks had to pay for Chris and let's say we would have drafted Brandon Roy. How would the franchise have been able to afford the quality team that we have now? We would not have Joe Johnson nor Al Horford. Josh Smith would be playing for Memphis. The trades for Jamal Crawford and Mike Bibby would never have happened. So, I'm happy the Hawks didn't draft Chris Paul or Deron Williams!

    Marvin Williams you rule!
