  1. when you a coach who is stupid and players with no heart who are stupid. entitled fools who have never worked for anything. only "athletic" ability. no moxie. we need a larry bird or a kevin mchale or a steve nash. notice anything similar about those players?

  2. I guarantee you if Horford had proven to be a bust; the ASG would have Smoove locked up by now. But if you look at the big picture, why would you overpay for Smoove at PF, when you have a budding all-star PF in Horford?

You don't is the answer. Marvin knows his role at SF and will take 8 to 10 mill next year. Horford can play PF better than Smoove already and will be on a rookie contract. Smoove is stuck behind a rock and a hard place. He wants superstar type money but he is not someone to build a team around as stated in another thread.

I guarantee the ASG is looking at this from the perspective that we build around JJ and Horford; and go from there. If Smoove wants to be overpaid, it will have to come from another team. I am not saying we will not sign Smoove; but I am saying we will not overpay for him. He really is stuck between Horford and Marvin, a rock and a hard place....

This the single most idiotic post I have read on this forum in 4 years. Marvin will take 8 to 10 million next year? You say this and then state you are worried about "overpaying" Smoove"? Marvin is a joke.

  3. If he leaves for the likes of Tayshaun Prince and Amir Johnson, I may very well ask for a refund on my season tickets. Coming off last season, that would be absolutely RIDICULOUS. NO WAY are we even CLOSE to as good replacing Smoove/Chillz with Prince/Evans/Johnson.

Like it or not, the bottom line is that the market has been set. I'm offering Smoove a deal on the low end of 6 yrs/$66M (Monta Ellis) or on the high end of 6 yrs/$72M (Okafor). I probably offer a 6 yr/$66M deal with incentives that would allow him to reach 6 yrs/$72M. He could take it or leave it. I'll believe that he will take the QO and leave $8M - $9M sitting on the table this year when I see it.

I am NOT trading him for role players. PERIOD. Worst case, he takes the QO and becomes unresticted next year and we have JJ, AL, Marvin, Acie, Mo Evans, Speedy and a FORTUNE to spend on FAs in 09/10. I'd rather have capspace in 09/10 than to spend a combined $14M on Prince and Johnson next year AND we get Smoove for THIS year. After the season, although he might be pissed and take less to play elsewhere (yeah right), Smoove may find out that resigning here as an unrestricted FA is his best option.

The problem is, even if we save cap space to spend on FA's in 09/10 we will not actually ever spend the money. Saving cap space is fine, but pointless if ownership is not willing to spend money to secure a free agent that the open cap space has made a possibility.

Does this franchise have any idea what loosing Smith will do to our fanbase. It's actually mind-boggling how out of touch they are.

  4. So who will you support if Smith leaves? Will you watch basketball anymore?

I will not root for a team whose ownership and front office intentionally sabatouges this team. I'm done. It's not a fairweather move, it's just self destructive to cheer for a team that is in NO way trying to get better and win. What is the point?

  5. It's the end of this franchise. All the mementum, gone. Johnson, gone. Atlanta being considered a viable place to play for free agents, gone. Half the fan base, gone. Damn, the cost of overpaying is nowhere near the cost of him leaving. If you disagree, you are a recent hawks fan. This kid is from Atlanta, evolving into a star, in a star driven league and we are going to let him walk? Count me as one of those who is done with the Hawks if he leaves. I have been a Hawks fan rabidly since 1983-but if they let him walk it is proof they have no interest in winning. Even in a sign and trade.

  6. Obviously, I am not saying spend 99% of our payroll on him and 1% on the rest. But he is worth 10-15 mil easy. Why? Ask yourself this question. Should we not match an offer in this range how bad will the bubble burst? He is the face (to the average fan) of our resurgence in the playoffs. It could be the final blow to a franchise that has been on close to the ten count for some time. My point is simple, only a long term, true Hawks fan could see this.

  7. You are if....you want to keep Josh Smith at any price.

You are not if...you think he is not worth it.

If you fall in the latter camp you have not been a fan this last decade, have no understanding of the enthusiasm and interest this guy brings to the average Atlanta sports fan and you have the basketball iq of...well.......a rock.

Marvin is a bust. He has no heart.

    Horford is a different player.

Smith brings people to the stands, gets people excited and with some continued offensive work will be a perennial allstar in this league.

  8. We continue to be the dumbest franchise in sports. Get a point guard, Miller maybe, or a center for this guy why he still has value. He is simply not a good player and might land us a player at a position of need. It is so obvious we need to do this I am sure we wont...geeezzz
