Thomas and Armstrong should never get off the bench in a playoff game unless its garbage time and Powell should only play with all 3 bigs are in foul trouble. Those last 8 minutes in the 2nd quarter when Orlando curb stomped the Hawks while Zaza/Horford/Collins all sat on the bench with 2 fouls tells me everything I need to know about Larry Drew's coaching ability.
Really...the ONLY time Orlando has been able to score consistently against the Hawks is when we have someone else other than Zaza and Collins at center.
-
Here is my observation-The Hawks were up 32-22 at the time Jason Collins picked up his 2nd foul and Drew benched him for the rest of the half(as he did with Zaza and Horford prior to that). Did he really expect the Hawks to keep the lead with Powell/Armstrong guarding Dwight 1 on 1 for over 8 minutes in a crucial playoff game? Drew's(like his predecessor) irrational fear of any of our centers fouling out hurt us big time tonight.

The Hawks probably could have traded Bibby(who was willing to give back millions in a buy out) and Mo for Hinrich if they wanted to. It wouldn't surprise me if the Hawks just didn't plan on picking up Crawford's 3rd year option or actually keeping their 2011 pick anyway so they just threw them in there as well to avoid looking cheap in the summer.I also want to point out that players like Terrance Kinsey and Shelden also looked great at the end of their rookie years when placed in low leverage situations where they were guaranteed 30 plus minutes a night.

That was probably my favorite game of the year.
Horford was amazing and so was Marvin. Joe sucked shooting the ball but made some nice passes and played great defense.

You have to adjust for pace or otherwise you could say that Minnesota has a top 10 offense.

That 4th quarter still shows that the Hawks need a new point guard and/or a new coach. The Jamal+Joe prevent offense was in full effect during those final 5 minutes.

As DA mentioned on NBATV let's not forget that in the offseason the Bulls GAVE the Wizards a 1st round pick to take Hinrich.
That was because they needed the money to sign Lebron+plus another max free agent.
-
The 4th quarter of game 6. Game 3 was more a relief...but I actually thought they were going to win the series(before getting blown out in game 5)after Joe scored 20 in that 4th quarter.
-
I think Hinrich is a slightly better player than Bibby...but we lose continuity and our bench will definitely be a disaster next year.
-
If there is any draft where a late first rounder is almost meaningless it is this draft. This draft is the worst draft since 2000.
You know...the same exact thing was said about the 2009 draft.
-
no no... BK would have saved the picks. And in the draft, he would draft LONG players. Doesnt matter what position, just as long as they are LONG
Didn't BK give up a very high 2nd rounder so that we could get Anthony Johnson for our 2007 "playoff push"? Hinrich has a small advantage over Bibby in per 36 numbers but has a much worse plus/minus & we lose the advantage of continuity. I don't see why the Hawks thought he was a big enough upgrade to just throw a 1st rounder in there.
-
This is a trade that Billy Knight would make. You know you suck at drafting so just throw the pick in even though you're only getting a marginal upgrade at best.
-
The league has slowly transitioned into a point guard's league under the new handchecking rules. Point guards who can break down the defense and get to the basket like Sessions have more value than the Bibby and Hinrich types now a days.
-
Getting Kirk Hinrich acknowledges that
1. Management knows that Hawks aren't going to do anything with this core
2. Joe doesn't need to guard the opposing point guard
3. We have a REAL point guard!!!!
How is Hinrich a real point guard? He'll bring the ball up court and hand it off to Joe just like Bibby did.
-
Yeah, I had totally forgotten about that. Was it top 3 or top 5 protected??? One of the very (very!) few legitimately lucky brakes this organization has gotten. If that draft pick had gone to the suns I'm pretty sure it would have cemented BK's place in the history books as one of the all time worst GMs in basketball history.
Top 3 protected. That's probably the only time in recent memory where the Hawks actually moved up in the draft lottery(from 4th to 3rd).

I think you mean 2010 Hawks vs the 2011 Hawks.
-
Bibby is one of my least favroite players on the team but giving Teague more minutes isn't the solution to anything. He just doesn't give you anything offensively.
-
The missed free throws hurt but the one consistent trend is that Bibby and Teague both suck.
-
Hawks center Al Horford will receive a contract extension, a source tells Yahoo! Sports. More details to come.
-
Why does this dude play so many minute?
I guess it's because Teague's hurt. I don't take the pre-season serious....but Bibby's production has been laughable. 3.7 ppg and 2.3 apg in 25 mpg and he didn't record a single point,assist,or rebound in 12 1st half minutes tonight.
-
Bibby's really filling the statsheet tonight.
-
If the Hawks outbid another team for a HC then they wouldn't be the Hawks. The 5 teams that he's supposedly considering aren't scared of the luxury tax or expensive head coaches.

ATL is a decent market with great nightlife and awful fan support & ownership.

Armstrong forced a couple of turnovers but Dwight actually shot 100 percent from the field while he was in the game and he didn't grab a single rebound.
