My dad passed away Tuesday night and we laid him to rest today. I am totally devastated. He was my best friend. Never see or talk to him again until glory.
i know this is not Hawks related and I understand if it is moved. I feel like y'all are family and been a Hawks fan since the 70s.
Shocked to hear the Hawks signed D12.
I can only wish my daughter would write things like this about me one day. Very nice.

Wait collection of future picks or the guys they picked in this last draft?
Future picks. I think if it was players they just drafted they would have just used their names.

Yeah but the truth of the matter is he was getting that or more regardless. My question is the team better off with him or without him? If it's truly a choice between him or Al, I want Al and will make with the wings we have. But if they somehow get Al to go along with Baze, I have no problem with it as I'm not sure who they'd spend the money on that would be better than Baze.
Agreed. When I posted that I hadn't looked at some of the money that's being paid out today. $70 mil for Baze isn't that bad. I'm just praying they can squeeze Al in too.

If our intention is to move Splitter and Scott and perhaps Thabo in order to sign Baze while also keeping Horford, you can bet your bottom dollar that the Hawks ALREADY have those moves lined up - including trade partners and the works. That is IF that is our intention.
Who's going to take Splitter?

He was offered more from Rockets and Lakers but took $2mill less to stay with Hawks. Do you understand that?
I understand it. I also don't have too much of an issue with the money compared to what others are getting today. I just don't think he's who we should have signed between he and Horford.

Even if this happens, Baze getting 70 mil seems insane.
-
Two things:
1) Al would have to wait and trust we'd get all of that done.
2) We still need a backup PG.
-
Don't see how Al fits now.

If we go cheap NOW!?

Im 99% sure that Horford would only go to the C's if Durant had already committed.
Why else on earth would he go there? We can give him a 4 year Max deal too AND were better....by a lot.
We can give him 5 years.
-
It all depends how Bud incorporates Howard into the system and if Howard does well in that fit.
If Howard is a good fit, they need a guy to play the 2 that can shoot threes and play D. If Bud can find another DMC that'd be perfect.
If these two things happen we can compete with the Cavs.
-
If we can somehow get Al and Dwight here, we'd need a dead eye shooter at SG.

Wonder if we have money left after Dwight and Horford to bring the Joe back.
Iso-Joe and Dwight on the same team? That sounds turrible.

Let's say we don't sign Horford, or Dwight. Hell, even if we trade Sap. Bud's system is going to be good enough to win 30 games. That's not going to get us a top 5 pick.
People keep talking about this like it's an option. Tanking will not work with this team. The culture and system is good enough to prevent them from being bad enough for tanking to actually work.
Sign the best players you can and hope Lebron gets hurt/declines. That's your best shot.

Atlanta Hawks and free agent Dwight Howard made a strong connection in meeting today, sources tell @TheVertical. There's traction there.
I guess there won't be an offer until KD signs somewhere? After the money that's already been spent in FA by other teams, $24 mil starting to not seem like that much.
-
Honestly I'd support this signing. He's a solid backup PG.

So people are dropping the grade down because of his spot in the draft. Not necessarily his skill and fit. What sense does that make.
It makes a lot of sense. Does it make sense to pay $10 for a donut?

Dear Taurean,
I hope you don't like winning titles because that will not happen here.
PS Stupid first name.

How many boards had him at 12, smart guy?

Atlanta is the worst drafting city in the history of the world. Hawks, and Falcons draft WORSE than your average fan.

He was rated 30th on some boards... 30th.

Good response.
For me it's less what we do with the cap space (I doubt Durant or Derozan will come here) and more to do with getting a potential superstar in the draft. We don't do well in FA because top notch free agents don't come to Atlanta because there are no superstars to join.
With Sap, Denis, Kyle, and top 5 rookie X, the team will still win 40 games. Bud's system will get you 40 and into the playoffs. Ideally, Rookie X blossoms in year 2. In year 3, other big names want to come play with him.
But since you asked, I'll try my hand:
Spend the cap space this year on Allen Crabbe SF , and Marreese Speights C. Crabbe will likely sign for a lot less than Baze, and Speights can shoot and can provide some physicality this team is missing.
Schröder, (Hield), Crabbe, Sap, Speights
That's an athletic starting 5 to say the least.

1. Don't max Al Horford. He's not worth the max.
2. Don't resign Baze. Bud can find another player that will excel in that role. He took DMC and Bazemore off of the scrap heap and they both blossomed. He can find another reclamation project and pay them the league minimum.
3. Trade #21, #12, Minny's 1st rounder, and THJ (or some other equally valued player) and draft a stud. I'd really like to see Buddy Hield.
This team/town needs a STAR. We don't have a player as good as Cleveland's SECOND best player (Kyrie). We need to take chances and try and get a guy good enough to get other players to come and play with him in a few years. That's how the NBA works these days. Bud Ball is a great way to get into the 2nd round of the playoffs. Bud Ball + a star (who will bring other stars) will win titles.
Clearing cap room to resign Al and Baze will keep us losing in the 2nd round of the playoffs for several more years. Maybe that's enough for you guys?

Amen to that, brother. Nice to see us wheeling and dealing. I love this talk of going into luxury for Horf. Is this an Atlanta team?
